Lexi settles into the seat across from Evie, her expression warm. “New Zealand’s going to blow your mind. Remote cabin in the South Island—mountains, pristine wilderness, barely any civilization for miles. Our coven has connections there. Safe. Hidden.”
The wheels leave the tarmac and Evie looks out the window and says “here we go”
Lexi continues “Yeah, and there’s crystal-clear lakes, hiking trails that’ll make your soul sing once you’re past the pregnancy phase. It’s the kind of place where you can just... breathe.”
Evie looks at Damon who has finally fell asleep it all finally catching up to him and she pulls a blanket over his form and says to Lexi, “I can still do that for a couple of weeks well maybe only one we’ll see how big I get. When did you go there? And are they Jesuit’s? They are so mystical I have always been fascinated by them”
Lexi smiled, glancing at the sleeping Damon before turning back to Evie. ”You’ll be able to do plenty for a while yet,” she said softly. “We’ll just make sure you don’t overdo it.”
Evie laughed quietly. “I can still do that for a couple of weeks... well, maybe only one. We’ll see how big I get.”
Lexi chuckled. “We’ll let Damon think he’s in charge. It’ll make him happy.”
Evie smiled before her curiosity returned. ”So... when did you go there? And are they Jesuits? They are so mystical. I’ve always been fascinated by them.”
Lexi shook her head with a gentle laugh. “No, not Jesuits. You’re thinking of the Māori—the indigenous people of New Zealand. Their history, traditions, and spirituality are incredible. They’ve lived there for centuries, long before Europeans arrived.”
She settled back in her seat, her eyes growing thoughtful. “I first went there almost eighty years ago. At the time, it was just another place to disappear for a while. I never imagined it would become one of the safest places on Earth for supernatural beings.”
A smile spread across her face. ”The mountains are breathtaking. Ancient forests stretch for miles, waterfalls pour from cliffs that disappear into the clouds, and the night sky is unlike anything you’ve ever seen. There are places there that feel... untouched, almost sacred.”
She looked toward the window, already picturing it. ”And that’s where your new home is. Hidden among those mountains, far from the rest of the world. A place where you won’t have to spend every day looking over your shoulder.”
Evie rested a hand over her stomach and smiled. “That sounds like paradise.”
Lexi returned the smile. “I think you’re going to love it. The mountains there are old. Sacred. Your cosmic energy will feel right at home. The twins will too.”
Evie asks, “So it’s likely to feed my energy if that’s the case which is good maybe it will slow down the growth of the twins adding more balance to the equation that would help me a lot”
Lexi’s eyes light up with recognition. “That’s... actually brilliant. The sacred earth there, the ley lines running through those mountains—they’re conduits for cosmic energy. If you’re connected to that, it could create equilibrium.”
She pulls out her phone, already texting. “I’m calling ahead. There’s a witch in Queenstown who specializes in earth magic and pregnancy work. She needs to know you’re coming.”
Damon squeezes your hand, relief washing across his features signifing he wasn’t really sleeping
then says, “ Balance. That’s what we need. You carrying our kids at warp speed while staying grounded. The mountains will help.”
The jet cruises smoothly through the night sky, only a few more minutes until they arrive in Richmond.
“We’ll find out soon enough,” Lexi said with an encouraging smile. And they all settle back and just relax for a while, a quiet satisfaction settling among the treo.
About 30 mins later An announcement chimed softly through the cabin.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we’ll be landing in Richmond in approximately five minutes. Please return to your seats and fasten your seatbelts.”
Outside the windows, the Virginia coastline came into view beneath the afternoon sun.
The landing was smooth. Within minutes, the aircraft taxied to a private terminal where a much larger Gulfstream waited with its engines already running. A small ground crew transferred their luggage while another welcomed them aboard.
The changeover was surprisingly quick. Damon never let go of Evie’s hand as they crossed the tarmac. Lexi and Stefan handled the luggage while the flight crew ensured everything was ready for the long journey ahead.
Once everyone had settled into the spacious cabin, the captain’s voice echoed over the speakers.
“Welcome aboard. Our estimated flight time to Nadi, Fiji, is just over thirteen hours. We’ll refuel there before continuing on to Queenstown, New Zealand. Sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight.”
Damon returns, sliding into the seat beside you, immediately taking her hand.
Damon says in a low voice ”Fiji in eight hours. Then home."
Moments later, the larger jet rolled onto the runway. As the engines roared to life, Evie looked out the window one last time as the lights of Virginia slipped away beneath them.
The real journey had finally begun.
Evie settle down and feels the weight of the hours finally take it’s toll and she covers up and her breathing deepens as sleep claims her, the hum of the jet engines becoming a lullaby. Damon watches Evie settle, his hand still wrapped around hers.
Hours pass. The cabin stays quiet, dimly lit. Lexi dozes across from them, her head tilted back.
Damon doesn’t sleep. He can’t. His eyes track your face, watching for signs of discomfort, pain, anything. The soul-bond thrums between you both—a constant, living thing.
Around hour six, as Fiji’s lights begin appearing on the horizon, Evie’s body tenses slightly. A familiar warmth spreads through her abdomen.
Damon’s hand tightens gently as he whispers, “It’s starting, isn’t it?”
Evie reaches for his hand and the other is against her tummy as she nods her head and the pain starts to move through her and she can feel as her stomach starts to stretch as the twins are moving and growing it makes her start to rock her body back and forth while grounding herself with his eyes and the pain stays at a dull ache but doesn’t dissipate as it did before this time it’s staying stretching into the hr.
Lexi’s eyes snap open. She senses the shift in energy—as she hears Evie’s accelerated heartbeat and increased breathing. She moves quickly and states “this growth spurt? it’s different isn’t it?.”
She reaches for a cold compress from the cabin’s medical kit, pressing it gently against Evie’s lower back.
Damon talks with his voice steady, anchoring as he says, “Look at me. Stay with me. You’re doing great.” His thumb traces slow circles on your palm. The jet begins its descent toward Fiji, but he doesn’t break eye contact.
He continues to clam her saying, “Breathe through it. In and out. The babies are just growing stronger.”
The pain stretches, relentless. As the hour passes. Damon never moves, never looks away—a vampire holding his wife through the supernatural cost of carrying his children.
As the plane touches down the pain is still present but not as strong just there she’s adapting to it. getting stronger herself, as a witch boards Damon looks at Evie with awe.
The medical witch boards before the cabin door fully opens—a woman in her sixties with silver-streaked hair and knowing eyes. She takes one look at you and immediately understands.
The witch announces, “The growth spurt’s still active. I can feel it.” She moves to Evie’s side, her hands hovering over your belly. Warm energy flows from her palms—soothing, grounding.
Damon’s voice is thick with emotion, “Look at you. Still standing. Still fighting. You’re amazing”. His eyes hold pure reverence—not just attraction, but awe at your strength. At what you’re enduring for their children.
The Witch says, “We need to get her to the villa. I can help manage the pain there with proper grounding work.”
Evie protests, “No I’m okay we need to leave and be back in the air as soon as possible. I want to be at the mountains they are calling me. I can feel it the closer we get to them, to the magic. I feel it.” Evie is adamant about this and everyone of them is floored the strength of this woman.
The witch exchanges a glance with Lexi, then nods with respect. “The mountains are calling her. That’s the cosmic energy responding to proximity. Smart to listen.”
Damon stares at Evie—this woman carrying his twins, enduring supernatural pain, and still commanding the room with certainty. Says to the crew, “Refuel. Resupply, forty minutes. We’re wheels up.”
Lexi moves toward the cockpit, already coordinating with the pilot. “They’re prepping now. Direct route to Queenstown.”
“Thank you for your kindness Evie starts to say and the witch shakes her head and says “No I know who they are they are the children of the prophecy I never thought I would ever be this close to them they are the miracle we have been promised. I would do anything to ensure their survival.”
The group looks stunned what??? What prophecy???
Damon’s hand tightens around yours, his jaw clenching. “You’re saying our kids are... what? Prophesied?”
Damon leans forward, his protective instincts flaring. “and what does that mean for them? For Evie? For me for that matter?”
She answers looking straight into his eyes truth emanating from her in waves, “It means they’ll be hunted by every faction that exists. Witches, vampires, werewolves—all will want to control or destroy them. But it also means they have the power to end the eternal wars between our kinds.”
Lexi says, “you need to tell us everything”
The witch say’s will. But this isn’t something I can explain in a few hurried moments on the tarmac. What I have to tell you will change everything you think you know about your children... and about Evie.”
Her expression softened as she looked back at Evie.
“For now, my first priority is making sure both she and the twins arrive safely. The prophecy can wait until she’s out of pain.” Without another word, the witch knelt beside Evie’s seat and finally extended her hand.
“I’m sorry,” she said with a gentle smile. ”Where are my manners? My name is Ahora.”
Evie managed a tired smile of her own before slipping her hand into hers.
“Evie.”
“I know.” Ahora’s smile deepened. ”Lexi told me about you the moment she realized what was happening. I’ve been waiting for your arrival ever since.”
She turned her attention back to the leather satchel resting at her feet and carefully unbuckled it. Inside were neatly arranged bundles of dried herbs, polished stones, small crystal bottles, and several pieces of carved wood etched with ancient runes.
Damon watched every movement. ”What are you doing?”
“Helping your wife.” She answers a-mater-of-factly. She removed a shallow wooden bowl and placed three smooth green stones inside before adding a few drops from one of the crystal bottles. The liquid shimmered as though tiny stars had been trapped within it.
The stones began to glow. Ahora says, “Just breathe,” Evie obeyed. The ache across her stomach began to ease. “Oh…It doesn’t hurt as much."
Damon closed his eyes for a brief second, relief washing across his face as he said, ”Thank God.”
"The pain will return,” Ahora admitted honestly ”The twins are growing, I can’t stop that."
She looked up at Damon and continued ”But I can give her body the strength to endure it.”
She lifted a glowing stone and placed it into Evie’s palm. “Keep this with you. Whenever another growth-spurt begins, hold it-focus on your breathing. It’s connected to-earth-itself. It’ll help steady your body-your magic until we reach the mountains.”
Ahora announced “The counsel of witches have sent me, to stay with you, to help with the transition and supporting magic, when we get there, I’ll explain the prophecy detail. I will help make the pain more manageable, that is if your ok with my coming?”
They all in unison nodded their heads and Evie said “you are more than welcome thank you we need your help, I am so grateful”. A single tear escaped her eye feeling emotional over this person’s sacrifice to help her family.
