Chapter Twelve Mallory gave herself a few minutes to let it all out. Huddled under the duvet, she sobbed, pounded the pillow and even screamed into it a couple of times, thankful for the hotel’s soundproofing. Then she went to the bathroom and splashed cold water onto her face. Finally, she headed to the mini-bar and retrieved a bottle of icy-cold mineral water. After gulping down half the bottle—part of her wishing it was vodka—she felt able to make the call. She’d known those few minutes wouldn’t have made any difference.
