A Billionaire Romance by Charlotte Avery

The single desperate choice Elena Carter made resulted in an irreversible transformation of her existence. Elena Carter faces a devilish decision when ruthless billionaire Adrian Sinclair presents her with contract marriage terms although she understands the situation perfectly well. She decides to protect her emotions as she lives among the wealthy elite who show no warmth.

Adrian Sinclair has chosen to reject love as a concept. His numerous betrayals have taught him to hide his emotions deep inside. Marriage exists solely as a business transaction for him until Elena starts dismantling the protective barriers he has constructed. Every element of her quiet rebellion, fiery personality and unshakable strength causes Adrian Sinclair to question all his prior beliefs.

The hidden passion between them struggles to emerge while Adrian's wealthy family employs all means to separate them. The lies and manipulation along with past hurts work to dismantle what they never intended to construct.

The end of their contract will force Elena to decide if she retains her emotional well-being or if Adrian will sacrifice all to possess what he vowed he would not require.

Episode 1: A Desperate Choice
Elena Carter grabbed the eviction notice with shaky fingers, her pulse thumping so loudly that she could hear it through her ears. She had battled so hard to maintain the inexpensive one-bedroom apartment, but it was no longer hers. The landlord had given her till the end of the week to depart, and there was no disputing the large red FINAL NOTICE printed across the page. She fell onto the worn-out couch, the cushions falling beneath her weight. Bills piled up on the coffee table—electricity, water, and past-due credit card statements—all demanding payment she couldn’t afford. Her bank account was empty. Her mother's hospital fees had depleted her meager funds. She let out a choking sob, but immediately brushed the tears away. Crying would not change anything. She needed a miracle. However, girls like her did not experience miracles. She was afraid to pick up her phone when it buzzed on the table. Unknown number. "Hello?" she replied, her tone apprehensive. A smooth, authoritative male voice came over the phone. "Miss Carter?" "Yes… "Who is this?" My name is Victor Langston. "I represent Mr. Adrian Sinclair." Elena's breath caught. Adrian Sinclair. The name was familiar. Everyone in the city knew about him: the ruthless millionaire who commanded the corporate world with an iron fist. He was cold, calculating, and untouchable. "Mr. Sinclair would like to meet with you," Victor said. "He's got an idea." Elena grimaced as bewilderment set in. "Is there a proposition?" "Why would a man like him need anything from me?" "He prefers to discuss it in person. "Are you available this evening?" Elena looked around her little, dilapidated flat. She had no employment, no house, and no options. If Adrian Sinclair made her an offer, she couldn't refuse it. She gulped hard. "Where?" The Sinclair Estate Elena had never seen this part of the city. The towering towers, high-end retail stores, and slick sports cars zipping by made it feel like a dream. It could also be a nightmare. Victor had handed her the black automobile, which she drove to the Sinclair estate. It was more of a castle than a country house, a vast acreage with huge windows, which depicted the standard of living that was not easily attainable, columns that towered and had iron gates that opened slowly. The butler lets her in, and she follows slowly, her old shoes squeaking on the shiny marble floor. I felt ugly in my tattered coat and trousers in an elegance I couldn’t even afford. shoes squeaking on the shiny marble flooring, as a butler ushered her inside. Surrounded by an elegance she could never afford, she felt very out of place in her tattered trousers and used coat. They escorted her to a study with a huge stone fireplace and a roaring fire. The walls were packed with floor-to-ceiling bookcases that held leather-bound books that she questioned had ever been handled. A butler took her inside and she warily followed her old shoes across the very clean marble floors. She didn't feel like she belonged, walking the line between luxury she can't even begin to pay for in tattered trousers and a used coat. They brought her to a study with a fire burning fiercely in a large stone fireplace. There wasn't a book on any of the leather bound books that ran the length of the walls that she thought had been touched. She saw him after that. Adrian Sinclair was standing close to the window, the city lights outside the glass backlighting his tall figure. In person, he seemed much more menacing; he was broad-shouldered and immaculately dressed in a black suit that was cut to match his frame precisely. Sharp jawline, high cheekbones, and piercing storm-gray eyes that latched into her with unreadable intensity were all features of his stone-carved face. Elena gasped for air. The word "no" was unfamiliar to this individual. Slowly he turned, his face unreadable. "Miss Carter." Elena made herself look into his eyes. "Mr. Sinclair." "Take a seat." The last word was not a cry. She sat down in the chair facing his desk with her hands on her lap, so that they did not shake. He and Adrian silently looked at her for a minute and she felt like the heat of his gaze was burning her. He then said something. "There's trouble for you." Elena became rigid. “Pardon me?” Notification of eviction. past due debts. Not working. No family to go to. You're just one step away from homelessness. Her stomach knotted up. How was he aware of that? "Is there someone observing me?" She made a demand. His lips formed a slight smile yet it felt nothing but cold. I always strive to obtain full knowledge about everyone I plan to meet. She felt exposed as she swallowed her words in front of him. What type of agreement did you have in mind? Adrian positioned his upper arms on the desk as he brought his body closer to the table. "I need a wife." Elena blinked. "I apologize—what?" "A short-term agreement. A merely ceremonial marriage. A year. He spoke in a slick, businesslike tone, as though he were talking about a contract rather than a crucial choice. Elena chuckled incredulously. "You're not serious." "Miss Carter, I don't joke about business." She shook her head. Numerous women would eagerly accept such a business deal. Why me?” A dark expression passed through Adrian's eyes before his jaw muscle began to stiffen. “Because I need someone… unremarkable.” These words delivered a double impact than they should have. She managed to hide her emotions by responding with those words. I need to understand what benefits this "arrangement" offers me. “A home. Financial security. The agreement includes enough funds to establish a new start after completing the twelve-month contract. His gaze locked onto hers. “And your mother’s medical bills? Paid. In full.” Elena’s breath caught. He knew about her mother? She tightened her fists as her thoughts sped out of control. One year of her life in exchange for security, for her mother’s health, for a chance at a future. The deal seemed to involve selling her soul to the devil. At this moment she wondered if she could accept the offer. A long period of silence passed before Adrian resumed speaking to her. Your decision lies before you Miss Carter. His voice was calm, controlled. “But I need an answer. Now.” Elena’s heart pounded. Saying yes to him would lead her into a foreign realm with a husband who showed no signs of loving anyone. A simple refusal to him would mean she would end up with nothing. She raised her head while looking directly at him as she kept her voice firm even though her heart raced wildly. “Fine,” she whispered. “I’ll do it.” A faint smile appeared on Adrian's face as he showed his slight satisfaction through his otherwise blank expression. “Good,” he said. The doctor welcomed her to her new marital status with the title Mrs. Sinclair.
