Blurb

This is a slow burn romance story that involves Rachel Perez, an intelligent young girl who comes from a poor home. Tired of the struggle and debt, she hustles her way out of the town to the city. Her luck and efforts finally make her meet a change that rocks her life much more differently than she could have thought. She meets the CEO of a tech company who gets drawn in by her kindness and lets her use his status, connections, and net worth to be all she can. She encounters his enemies, competition, scandals, and tries to drag him out of the web his evil peers try to put him in. She does all this while trying to juggle an affair at first with his cousin and a family later with him. He’s cold, dangerous, and dark, while she’s kind, soft, and heart-achingly shrewd. Their combination quenches a fire he never thought could go out. He can’t help falling in love with her, but his empire, future, and family have no place for her. This is a story of defiance, rags to riches, and obsession.

CHAPTER 1: The saving breakdown.
‘WAIT.. waitt... please...no, don’t stop this. I need this... desperately– you have no idea.’ My heart clawed tightly to the words that left my mouth. --------------------------------------------------------———-- ‘How…dare you?!!!!’ A loud, feminine, shrill voice rang out, …walk into my fiancée’s company with your cheap stilettos thinking you deserve a spot here? The beautiful, slender young woman who looked like she was worth my whole generation combined shrugged at me. She stood in front of me menacingly without regard that we were in a public space. It was a posh, over-tuned high society voice that sounded like she sharpened her tongue. ‘I've seen delusional people in my prestigious, rich years and i have yet to lay eyes on an audacious one like you.’ She dashed out vehemently. She squealed ‘securityyyyy!!!’ Who LET HER IN HERE? Are you all blind? The Security laid eyes on me and came to the spot where the madame was standing as fast as an alarm would go off when set off. Pity sat on the pupils of the poor security guards, making them dilate for me. Thewoman in front of me, yelling, was a high- profile lady. I could have sworn she had on 30 million dollars worth of accessories with the way those diamonds danced on her body. She had blonde, full, beautiful hair and tanned dark skin. She had a pointed nose, a perfect face, and dazzling fashion. She was supposedly the “girlfriend of the CEO”- whoever owned this multi-billion dollar venture, that is. The lobby from the entrance of the company was grand, futuristic and comfy looking. The decor glimmered in “expensive”. The sections and departments were arranged according to rank and floor. The reception was expansive and clean. Glass-walled conference rooms lined the edges of the room. There was an open area for meeting and waiting. It led to the open desk, glass-walled area leading to the CEO’s office. She squirmed and scramped the whole place on me, degrading me. Everyone looked on as she gesticulated widely, speaking sharply. The people around were at their respective work areas, and the other applicants were busy with their instruments in the workplace. I bowed my head and raised it in confusion as that was all my helpless self could do. My hands shivered in nervousness and shame. My eyes got teary and teary by the second, and I batted my eyelashes to keep it in. Her words cut through the wind like sharp glass. I wanted to sink into the ground and never come out --to disappear from human sight. God, even if it meant turning into a housefly, It would save me from the humiliation of important people looking. I felt pity for a part of myself. . My fears opened a door and whispered to me, I stood there mute, like i was going to be shot if i spoke. She rang at me to stay as far away from the company as possible because i told her i couldn’t get her her coffee. P.s i was only here on an interview. My confidence when i walked into the room after i said that to her annoyed her so much so that she had to call me back so spitefully and hatefully. She was one of those spoilt daddies’ girls. MARIA? A cold, dark, sharp jolt of a voice came out very scolding and peeved. He had come out of the elevator from the top floor to stand at the door of the glass office, where the whole commotion was. It came so growling low it frightened everyone in the room except me. The supposed girlfriend froze out of fear on hearing the voice, that one would have thought it was her father who was devilishly strict. It was a sight to behold. The high horse came crashing down. “On several counts, Maria,” the voice continued, “have i judiciously stated that you have NO right to speak to ANY of my employees here, the way you want to or even at all.” He spoke so smoothly and calmly that one would think the words weren’t intended to harass. “My father....ggrr..”, he contorted like he remembered a not- so- sweet memory, “ bethr- oting you to me doesn’t make any difference to me. He walked towards her direction to glare at her.” “You, Maria, are the same as i see you in my being, a leech and Chanel w***e !!” ‘If this ever repeats itself again, i will show you the door myself, - permanently.’ YOU-he motioned towards me, with a look as If he noticed he had never seen me here before. -Come into my office. -NOWW. He shockingly spoke like an alpha male, one that didn’t even need to be tagged with the name before he was recognized as one. His movements were sharp and directed. I knew a Top-dog when i saw one. He carried power underneath his coat, and everyone seemed to hold his feet on their knees. I was in my 20s, dressed in a deep blue midi-length office dress paired with dark stilettos and a black office fabric box handbag. I didn’t have a lot of money at the time so it showed on my body, as i had sunken neck bones, very dainty hands, and a slightly bony facial structure. I had a slim body, but i carried it well so that people just assumed i was doing this for model look cred. I had beautiful features and olive skin. My hair was full and done well. I had glowing skin and a cute, slim, curvy body. “-wait, she’s not an employee, she’s -she’s only here on an interview.” (Wow, so she knew that before embarrassing me,i said in head voice) Maria fought off. she is? The CEO, with pettiness that one wouldn’t expect from the magnitude of the man, and spiteful hate for the supposed girlfriend, rang out: “She is now, you’re hired. whatever it is. I don’t care. Go to the receptionist to get your details down. I’ll phone her to let her know to put it down as an employee. You’ll be getting a welcome bonus of 25000 dollars.” Speaking calmly once more. The people around snickered and laughed very quietly. They all focused their attention on the lady caught in the drama. Some were happy, some jealous, some didn’t even care. Thankfully, i was the last to be interviewed, so the office could take a break. Maria, with jealous hate and annoyance, couldn’t contain it anymore and silently walked off. His features were like a smooth, chiseled statue of a Greek King. He dressed very smartly with minimalist colors like slightly dark gray on a very long suitcoat and a well-cut suit. His hair was cut very low and neatly. He had dark pupils and very white eyes. His shade was dark and his teeth shining. He was teaming 6’4 with a very toned looking body- not slim and not bulky. He was good- looking. His face was beautiful and handsome at the same time. I almost forgot the whole reason i was there in the first place. He had full, well-shaped eyebrows, almost full pink lips, pretty cheekbones, and a dashing jawline. In shock of how fast the event turned and twisted, i didn't know whether to cry or thank the heavens well because i did need the money. I collected myself and nervously strutted to his office. Immediately i closed the office door ,i bumped into his body with such an intensity that made us fall to the floor and mistakenly share very short mouth contact, Unaware that he had been very close to the door checking the clock above the giant platinum office door. The day seemed to be going really well, first a demented barbie, then free money, and a kiss from a Ceo, —by mistake of course. He immediately shot up bringing me up with him, slightly blushing and looking away. Apologizing like a gentleman and casting his deepest sorries. I apologized too. “Her lips tasted like cherry,” what i later got to know because he told me. The whole place seemed to draw me in and make me heavily fascinated. The decor was minimalist, expensive and professional. I had seen nothing like it before. I gazed back to him and he caught me staring at the decor of the office. He shifted to sit on his large office desk ‘you like what you see’, “costs nothing I’d throw off.” He offered me a sit right beside his desk. We were inches apart. Respectfully. The way she humiliated you? Are you okay? water? tv? food? coffee? Seconds of hearing him speak and he sounded and acted soo kind. I’m okay... sir, thank... thank.. You so much sir. yeah, yes ..sir.. yeah. I answered according to his questions. it was nothing. I wondered how his rough voice changed to a kind, welcoming one. I said it was nothing, but i knew the kind of self resilience i needed to take that in and brush it off. this hadn’t been my first time facing an embarrassing situation because of how i looked or was. ‘Please, sit down’ he offered to one of the chairs across the room. nothing? you call that nothin? He continued with his Americanized English accent. You know i watched from the cctv cam before i came down the elevator to stop the drama she was causing. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not superman but my company does scale on the content margin, and we don’t want any bad rep. I’ll set you up for a proper interview so we can get this on. But you can keep the bonus since I don’t want you to feel too bad. wait... waitt... please no, don’t stop this. I need this... desperately. I immediately snapped out of my wonder world, remembering the place I left alone. my life ... is not in the best condition * I deliver a 5 minute ramble explaining how much of a thinline and broke i was and how my family couldn’t help me and how i needed the job so bad* he stood there looking at me in pity. he then said coolly: “first, he paused to look at me, ‘you don’t look like it and secondly,” he resumed coldly ‘soo what does the bonus do’. oh ..s ir.. sir. debts .. i have debts.. i said with quivering tears in my eyes. Debts covering rent , food, school.. Bring your credentials, let me see. Let me see it all. The documents you brought. He asked. I humbly lurched it toward him. He checked out my credentials, C.V, transcript, and results. He had a surprised look on his face but hid it and just looked straightway the papers. i noticed it and felt a ray of hope. OKay, this is surprisingly encouraging, i see why you amassed debts. one of the top students in the whole of the state school you went to, hmm, and many more too. Well, well, well, the story of how you ended here is something I’m intrigued about. But isn’t this too qualified for just an assistant? I’m not so generous to want to give you what i see but what you applied for. Maybe you could change my mind. butt... you’re gonna do ONE THING FOR ME, IF I EMPLOY YOU. I’ll.. i’ll .. do anything sir. The words tasted like my pride had slipped off them when i spoke. He looked at me dangerously like i had entered his turf and was at his mercy. ———————————————————————
