"You are nothing but a medical asset. A blood-bag. Do not confuse a biological glitch with a soul," he snarled, his metallic fingers cold against my throat."Then why is your human heart beating so fast, Alpha?" I whispered back. For three centuries, the Lycan race has survived by trading their souls for steel. Under the glow of a fake, holographic moon, they shift using cybernetics and heavy machinery. They don't have mates. They have algorithms. They don’t feel love. They process data.I am Elara. A "Fleshy." Born in the toxic, neon-lit Slag Wastes without a single mechanical upgrade, I’m considered a broken, human-adjacent runt. I’ve never shifted. I’ve never heard the call of the moon. I just keep my head down and dig through the trash to survive.Until the Apex Enforcers hunt me down and drag me to the glittering penthouse of the most ruthless Alpha alive.Kaelen is the Alpha-Prime. Half-machine, terrifyingly gorgeous, and the billionaire CEO who owns the sky. He is also hiding a fatal secret: he is dying of "Cyber-Blight." His mechanical implants are rotting his remaining flesh, and my pure, organic blood is his only cure. He planned to lock me in a glass cage, drain my blood, and toss me aside. But Kaelen's multi-billion-dollar algorithms failed to predict one tiny, impossible detail. The moment our eyes met, his internal systems violently crashed.Mate.Now, the only way to keep the Alpha alive is to keep him tethered to me. He hates his weakness, and I hate him for kidnapping me. But as Kaelen's machines fail one by one, the ancient, organic wolf trapped beneath his titanium shell is waking up and it is violently, uncontrollably obsessed with claiming and protecting me.Forced into hiding in the perilous under-city, we have to rely on each other to survive. His synthetic fiancée wants me dead. The Board of Directors wants me harvested. And an army of cyborgs is hunting us in the dark. They all think I am just a weak, Fleshy slum-rat. But they are about to find out that my dormant blood doesn't just hold the cure to a virus. It holds the DNA of a forgotten Moon Goddess. He wanted a lab rat. He accidentally woke a Queen. Why you should read this book:If you are tired of the same old "forest pack" werewolf stories, welcome to the future! SCRAP AND STATIC
CHAPTER 1 POV: ELARA The rain in Sector Nine didn’t wash things clean. It just made the rust bleed. I crouched behind a collapsed transit pillar, fingers digging through a pile of shattered server casings. My knuckles were split. Again. The damp cold had seeped into my joints hours ago, settling in my ribs like wet concrete. I ignored it. Hunger was worse. Hunger made your hands shake. Shaking hands dropped power cells. Dropped power cells meant no heat. No heat meant the night took you. Above me, the sky was a bruised purple, choked with smog and neon glare. And hanging dead center in it all was the Apex Moon. A perfect, glowing disc of hard light. It didn’t cast shadows. It didn’t warm the skin. It just pulsed on a timed cycle, telling the Cy-Cans when to shift, when to hunt, when to bow to the algorithm. I hated it. I hated the hum it made in the air. I hated how it made the enforcers’ optical implants flare red. My fingers brushed something smooth. Not rusted. Not cracked. A pristine lithium core, still wrapped in factory shielding. I pulled it free, heart kicking against my ribs. This would buy me three days of filtered water. Maybe a protein brick. Then the boots hit the permacrete. Heavy. Synchronized. The kind of tread that didn’t belong in the Slag Wastes. I didn’t look up. I just slid the core into my coat, pressed my back against the wet concrete, and held my breath. “Scan the perimeter. Thermal sweep.” The voice was filtered, metallic, stripped of anything human. A blue grid of light swept over the rubble. I squeezed my eyes shut. My coat was lined with lead-weave. It blocked basic scanners. But it didn’t block the Apex Enforcers’ deep-pulse tech. I’d heard stories. They didn’t just look for heat. They looked for life. Real life. Unmodified. Unplugged. The grid passed over me. Stopped. A sharp, high-pitched whine cut through the rain. “Organic signature,” the filtered voice said. No surprise. Just data. “Pure. Unaugmented. Female. Age: approximately twenty-two.” My stomach dropped through the floor. I ran. I didn’t think. I just moved. Boots slipped on wet metal. I vaulted a collapsed conduit, lungs burning, the lithium core digging into my ribs. Behind me, the whine of repulsor boots. The crackle of stun-batons charging. I made it three alleys before the net dropped. It wasn’t physical. It was a localized EMP field. The air itself turned heavy. My muscles locked. My knees hit the ground with a wet slap. I tried to push up, but my arms wouldn’t obey. I was a statue in the rain. Two enforcers stepped into view. Chrome-plated armor. Visors reflecting the neon bleed. No faces. Just lenses and steel. One of them knelt. Gloved fingers grabbed my jaw, tilting my face up. The scanner on his wrist blinked green. “Confirmed,” he said. “No ports. No neural shunts. No synthetic grafts. She’s a Fleshy.” The word hit like a slap. I’d heard it my whole life. Used by street dealers. Used by pack runners. Used by kids who threw rocks at the orphanage gates. Fleshy. Weak. Broken. A relic. The enforcer zip-tied my wrists. The plastic bit into my skin. I didn’t flinch. I just stared at the holographic moon, watching it flicker. “Transport’s here,” the second one said. They hauled me up. My boots dragged through puddles. The hover-cruiser waited at the end of the alley, sleek and black, windows tinted to obsidian. The doors hissed open. Cold, sterile air washed over me. Smelled like ozone and antiseptic. I was shoved inside. The doors sealed. The city vanished behind tinted glass. We rose. Fast. The slums shrank to a grid of rust and shadow. The Apex Spire loomed ahead, a needle of glass and steel piercing the smog. I’d only seen it from a distance. Up close, it was monstrous. Beautiful. Dead. The cruiser docked with a soft thud. The doors opened. They dragged me through corridors that gleamed like surgical tables. Past windows showing the city below. Past guards who didn’t look at me. Past screens flashing data streams I couldn’t read. My bare feet left wet prints on the polished floor. I didn’t care. I was too busy trying to keep my breathing steady. The doors at the end of the hall slid open. The room was vast. White walls. Glass tables. Monitors humming with soft blue light. And at the far end, standing beside a holographic display, was a man. Half his face was shadowed. The other half was sharp. High cheekbones. A jaw that looked carved from stone. A silver port glinted at his temple, wires disappearing into his hairline. His eyes locked onto mine. Dark. Cold. Calculating. And then my chest tightened. Not pain. Something worse. A pull. Like a hook sinking behind my ribs, dragging me forward. My breath caught. The air felt thick. Heavy. My pulse hammered against my throat. He didn’t move. But his jaw clenched. A low, staticky sound escaped him. Not a word. A warning. Or a recognition. The scanner on his desk screamed. Red light flooded the room. Text scrolled across the main monitor. FATED MATCH PROBABILITY: 99.8% BIOLOGICAL COMPATIBILITY: OPTIMAL WARNING: ORGANIC WOLF SIGNATURE DETECTED The man’s eyes widened. Just a fraction. His hand twitched toward his chest. Then his voice cut through the hum. Ice. Steel. Final. “Lock her in the isolation wing. And bring me a sedative.”
