I looked over at Silas, his jaw clenched and he closed his eyes. When he opened them again they had turned into the glowing sapphire orbs I found comforting. He was upset that my father could scare me into silence. I wasn’t sure what to do, I’ve never seen my father so angry. “Jasper told me everything.” Silas cut his eyes at Jasper. “He doesn’t know what he’s even talking about. What he saw was interpreted wrong.” He stood to be eye level with my father. “I don’t care to hear your lies! Your job was to be my daughter’s guardian. Nothing else.” My father took a step forward, nearly in my guardian’s face. I felt my breathing get rapid as the tension grew between the two men I’ve come to love most in my life. “My job IS to be her guardian. And I am doing just that. I’ve kept her safe. I’ve taught her your versions of self-defense. I’ve been here to chase every bad dream that still haunts her even after the damage has long stopped!” I feel lightheaded. Silas looks in my direction and before I pass out he’s at my side to catch me.
There’s a heat in my chest that I can’t describe. It’s almost like it’s on fire. Can you hear me? It’s been so long, my love, you’ve come for me. What a beautiful voice.
“Rayven?” I scoop her into my arms just as the King and the Queen rush over. “Rayven!” Omri’s deep voice reverberated through the throne room. As I look down at her, truly looking at her and seeing how far she’s come between now and 5 years ago. She truly is a magnificent creature. “Can you hear me?” Her lips move, barely a whisper escapes. But I can hear, I know this voice that now uses Rayven’s lips to speak to me. “It’s been so long, my love, you’ve come for me.” A soft illumination of light grows from her chest, slowly coating her body from top to bottom. “Parvati, my goddess.” Her eyes open to the sound of my voice.
