Chapter One
Silently the moon sits and watches over every creature as the stars provide them with beauty. Wolves begin to howl over the roaring of the wind and rustling of the trees. And there on the roof of an old abandoned cabin sat Aliyah, she lays there staring at the scene laid out so perfectly in front of her. The clatter of someone climbing up the roof startled her, she sat up immediately and found her knife. “Aliyah don’t worry its just me,” Rowyn Haddington called. He finally made it up the ladder and sat beside her. He gave her a kiss and smiled at her. “I missed you.” She says snuggling into his chest. “How was your hunt?” “Same old, father was so worried about the Tavern that we barely caught a thing. We did make out with more than we normally do so I suppose it was successful. We sold the hides at the market today.” Aliyah smacked Rowyn’s chest playfully. “You have been back all day and said nothing?” “I’m sorry my lady how shall I ever repay you?” Goosebumps rattled Aliyah’s body and she immediately blushed. “I.. know of a of a few ways.” “As you wish my lady.” Rowyn said seductively. Rowyn laid Aliyah back and kissed her soft but deep. Immediately a shiver went down her spine, this only encouraged Rowyn. He moves to her neck. Rustling in the trees made them stop, Aliyah found the knife on her hip and slowly scooted dow the roof to the ladder. The roof groaned underneath her as she inched forward. Her breath caught in her throat when her eyes met another, because of the cloak they were wearing, she couldn’t make out any features. However, she could see that they were in a crouched position and they have a scar on their jaw that went to the base of the neck. By looking at the stance and the composition of their body, she could tell it was a man. His broad shoulders that the cloak rested on and his bulk-like build gave it away. But for some reason Aliyah wasn’t scared as she inched towards the latter. “Who are you?” She yelled across the distance. “I’m your truth Aliyah Borne.” Her brows furrowed and he ran back the way he had came. His footsteps got softer until the noise was gone completely. Aliyah turned to look at Rowyn, but the roof groaned and collapsed under her. When her back connected with the ground she couldn’t breathe, it was as if the air was sucked out of her lungs. Above her Aliyah could here Rowyn’s footsteps and he frantically tried to get to her, but just as he reached the door he realizes that its locked. Her panic began to set in, but instead she closed her eyes. Breathe. Breathe damn it. She told herself. Just as she finally catches her breath Rowayn breaks through the door. “Aliyah?” Rowyn says moving debris off of Aliyah. With a grunt she tries to sit up but lays back down. “You should rest for a minute. “When you get what you want in a struggle for yourself, And the world makes you king for a day..” Aliyah closed her eyes and listened to Rowyn recite her favorite poem but an anonymous author, but her mind began to wander to the stranger in the cloak. Borne. She had never heard of the last name Borne before nor did she know anyone else with the name Aliyah. It all seemed very odd to her. The roof collapsing, the man in the cloak, and this Aliyah Borne he spoke of. In her mind she tried to connect dots, but she was born in Albai to her mother and father, the Carlyle’s. She had 2 sisters and a brother, all younger than her. Eventually after pondering the mans strange words she knew he was mistaken. Light pours in through the trees and into the doorway. The birds begin their morning song as the owls begin to sleep. Aliyah cautiously sits up and looks at Rowyn, fast asleep beside her. His long, curly black hair a mess around him and his honey suckle skin covered in soot. Rowyn has always been a clumsy kid and soon he became a clumsy man, so it would be no surprise if he showed up looking like he rolled in dirt. Aliyah on the other hand would have some explaining to do. She looked down at her dress and noticed that the beautiful grey fabric was torn in several places. There is no doubt in her mind that her mother would take one look and usher her to a bath. Aliyah bent over, her body aching with the movement, and kissed Rowyn’s forehead. He woke up and looked at her, a yawn forming on his lips. “It’s morning.” Rowyn shot up and looked around. “How are you feeling?” “Sore but I don’t think I broke anything.” Rowyn leaned over and kissed her. Than he got up and offered his hand. She took it and slowly got up, very cautious of her aching body. …………………………………………… “Mama! Aliyah’s home!” Leslie yelled, Leslie is her youngest sister. Her mother swung open the little cottage door, her face twisted in anger. “Aliyah Carlyle! I know that you are of age now but have you any idea how worried we all were? It is noon!” Once Aliyah got closer her mother noticed the state of Aliyah and her face softened. “What happened?” “Rowyn and I were playing around in the woods and I fell down a hill. Mama, I’m sorry I was gone and didn’t tell you but I expected to be back earlier. I didn’t know I would fall so hard.” Her mother raked her hand through her bright blonde hair and sighed. “Just promise me Aliyah, no more disappearing. Leave us a note or tell us please.” “Of course Mama.” Aliyah’s shoulders relaxed and a weight was lifted off of her chest. Her mother followed her inside to survey the damage of her wounds. Once inside the smell of freshly baked bread slammed into Aliyah and she realized how hungry she was. Hazel started laughing softly and looked at her with her beady brown eyes. “Nice try Aliyah, its for tonight. Happy birthday my love.” Hazel kissed her daughter on the forehead. “You will be resting the next few days, I will have your father write to Blaine. I’m sure he will understand you’re absence.” Aliyah sat on her rickety old bed and began to undress until she was in her undergarments. Her mom gasped after looking at her injuries and called for her father. Rynn rushed into the roof and his eyes widened at aliyah’s bruises and gashes. On her hip she had a giant gash that would likely need some stitches. It was a miracle that she didn’t bleed out but than she vaguely remember Rowyn wrapping cloth so tight around the wound not even a drop of blood escaped. But when her mom unwrapped it it had started to bleed again. Her father grabbed the suture kit and had piper fetch the physician. “Aliyah, you are so clumsy.” Her mother said as she smashed herbs together. Aliyah could feel the bile rise in her throat. The herbs for healing taste terrible, but shed have to choke some down to please her mother. “Bite down on this,” her father handed her a cloth. And began to suture the wound. Aliyah screamed in pain and bit down on the cloth. Knowing she couldn’t move she grabbed her moms hand and squeezed it to keep from jumping out of the bed. A few deep breaths in she found a spot in her mind to escape from the pain. Aliyah giggles at Rowyn as he runs around the trees in an attempt to make her mad, but she saw it as a game. Birds chirped as if joining in on the fun. But Aliyah tackled Rowyn to the ground and began to move her body on top of him. She felt the hard on him against her and she smiled into the kissed. Her heart began to pound louder. Rowyn flipped on top of her and bit her neck softly then began to untie the front of her dress until her undergarments showed. There is a fit of giggles as Aliyah tears off the rest of her clothes. Rowyn sat there on his knees looking at her bare body. He took her left breast in his hand and she let out a sound of approval. Slowly he put it in his mouth. Her back arched, he pulled away. “Do you want this?” “Yes!” She moaned and he slipped himself inside her. “Aliyah!” Her mom snapped her out of her trance and the world and pain came back to her. “Where did you go?” “My happy place, Mama. I went to my happy place.” Aliyah smiled at her mom and let the soft sounds of sleep wash over her. The abandoned cabin is demolished in front of Aliyah. She goes to walk forward to the broken door but someone grabbed her wrist. Aliyah turned so fast she felt dizzy. It was the man. “Aliyah Borne. You need to come with me.” His voice is husky. “I don’t know you and my name is Aliyah Carlyle.” The man snickered at her. Her brows furrowed in confusion as she looked at him. “Show me your face.” Her heart fluttered in her chest at that thought of seeing him. “As you wish.” He pulled of his hood and Aliyah looked at him. His brown hair and golden eyes looked at her with amusement. His tan wasn’t natural in Albai, he had to be a traveler. The clothes he wore contested to her theory. They were silk, something not common here. “Who are you?” She asked him. “I’m a fae assassin, destined to protect and serve you. Though you’re just a scrappy farmer.” He fired at her. “Fae? They’re extinct the last died with the Borne.. wait you crazy bastard you think I’m a Borne? As in the kingdom? You’re mistaken.” “I’m not. How else do you think we’re conversing? I hoped you were raised with our ways and the King chose wisely who to raise you, but you know nothing. You’re useless.” He turned to walk away but she followed him. Ducking and dodging low branches she finally caught up to him. “I’m not useless, besides I’m not who you’re looking for.” “You were Aliyah. You were Volalela’s last chance but I’ll do it myself.” “Do what?” Sweat poured down her face when she woke. She sat up slowly and looked at her sad room. It was bare, her family couldn’t afford much, other than a few books and clothes there was nothing else. All of the families money went to necessities. And the books were a gift from Rowyn. Aliyah rubbed her forehead and tried to get up. The process was slow but she did it. In the dining room her mother and father sat around the table whispering to themselves. “We need to tell her.” “Aliyah isn’t ready Rynn.” Her mom growled. “Shes 19, Hazel. She is old enough to know.” Her mom opened her mouth to say something but Aliyah cut her off. “Tell me what.”
