Chapter 12

SELINA'S POV After what felt like a dream, I slowly opened my eyes. I had no idea where I was, but the beautiful ceiling above me was completely unfamiliar. "She's awake." I heard a man's voice. Was all of that just a dream? The moment I remembered what had happened before I lost consciousness, I quickly sat up. My eyes widened as I looked at the unfamiliar men around me. I immediately climbed out of the bed and backed myself into the corner. "Relax, miss. We won't hurt you. We're not bad people," one of them said. My brows furrowed when I recognized two of them. Maxwell, the future Alpha of Silvermoon Pack, and Damien, the future Alpha of Crimsonclaw Pack, the rest of them were strangers I had never seen before. "Where am I?" I asked them. So it wasn't Adrian who had found me, it was people from another pack. What were they doing in that place? "You're in Silvermoon Pack now. We didn't bring you back to Shadowfang Pack because the people who hurt you might still be there. What happened to you? Was someone trying to kill you?" I looked at the wound on my arm, but it was already gone. Wounds inflicted by weapons coated with wolfsbane don't heal that quickly. I couldn't even feel the burning pain on my back anymore. "You've been asleep for a week. They used an enormous amount of wolfsbane on you. With that much wolfsbane, they never intended for you to survive. Luckily, we found you in the forest while we were hunting. If we hadn't found you before the poison spread through your entire system, you wouldn't have survived." "What?!" I exclaimed in shock after hearing Damien's words. I'd been asleep for an entire week? A whole week had already passed? Why did it only feel like I had dreamed for an hour? "How are you feeling now? Are you feeling better now?" Maxwell asked. I never imagined I would end up in Silvermoon Pack. "Don't worry, all of your injuries have already been treated. Every wound on your body was contaminated with wolfsbane. Do you know who did this to you?" I let out a quiet sigh. Why did they save me? I was grateful to be alive because of them, but why had they gone out of their way to save someone like me, someone who was considered a low-ranking wolf, if I was even a wolf at all? "I'm okay now. Thank you so much for saving me. I don't have anything to repay you with because I don't own anything." "You're from Shadowfang Pack, aren't you? You're also the girl I brought to the hospital before. Who wanted to kill you, and why? Did you do something? Did you betray them?" Damien asked one question after another. I simply shook my head. I didn't understand why I felt something strange whenever I looked at Damien. It couldn't be because he was my mate, I had just rejected my mate. Oh, right... a whole week had already passed. "Let her rest for a while. She just woke up, and you already have so many questions.” one of the men I didn't know said. "Get some rest first. Don't worry, we won't hurt you. You are safe here," Maxwell said before leading his friends out of the room. I let out a deep sigh. So I had nearly died because of the wolfsbane after sleeping for an entire week. I stood up properly and walked toward the window. From where I was standing, it looked like I was staying inside a palace. If I hadn't gone home for an entire week, Mom and Dad must already be worried sick. Adrian and the others were probably convinced that I was already dead. I clenched my teeth. I wanted revenge. I was his mate, yet he actually tried to have me killed? He had no heart. Didn't he feel the bond between us as mates? Didn't he love me, even just a little, as the woman destined to be his? He was humiliated because I rejected him in front of everyone, so what did he want me to do? Kill me slowly by making me suffer every time he slept with women who weren't even his mate? Adrian, I'll come back for you, and I'll make sure you pay for everything you've done to me. If you think I'm already dead, then you're wrong because I climbed back out of my own grave. You'll be shocked the moment you see me again. I stayed inside my room the entire day. My body still felt incredibly weak. When night finally fell, the bedroom door opened again. I looked toward it and saw Maxwell walking inside. He was carrying a food tray, then carefully placed it on the table. "Eat first so your strength can gradually return. I had my warriors search for a medicinal herb. Drink it so your wolf can recover faster from the effects of the wolfsbane." I stood up, walked over to him, and took my seat. I looked at the delicious food arranged in front of me, along with the pink-colored liquid he claimed would help my wolf recover more quickly. I didn't even have a wolf, could I still drink that? I didn't want to tell him the truth. He pulled out the chair across from me and sat down. "The Mooncrest Trial begins tomorrow. Do you still want to fight?" he asked seriously, making me look at him. He was incredibly handsome, with long eyelashes, a sharp nose, naturally red lips, a perfectly sculpted jawline, and a hairstyle that suited him perfectly. "I can't avoid it anyway, can I? Every student is required to participate," I answered before I started eating because I suddenly felt starving. After all, I hadn't eaten for an entire week, who wouldn't be hungry? I'm sure they only fed me liquids to keep my body from completely weakening. "What's your name? I'll arrange the schedule so you won't have to fight on the first day tomorrow." I looked at him again. I found myself staring into his beautiful eyes. "Can you really do that for me?" I asked. "Of course. We senior students of Lunaris Royal Academy are the ones responsible for arranging every student's battle schedule." I nodded. The Mooncrest Trial would last for an entire week. If I fought tomorrow, I would definitely lose after just one match because I still hadn't fully recovered. "Please, don't include my name on tomorrow's battle list yet. I need to regain my strength first," I pleaded, and he nodded in agreement. "So, what are you planning to do tomorrow? Are you coming with us, or are you staying here until you've fully recovered?" he asked. I thought about it for a moment. If I returned home tomorrow and Ellaine or Adrian's friends saw me alive, they would definitely try to do something to me again. "I need to stay here first," I answered.
