“ Oh my God no! Oh my God no!” Caroline frantically whispers over and over turning paper white, her eyes fearfully looking around.
“ Caroline!” I reach over to her distressed frame “Calm down”
She pauses abruptly and looks at me mortified, her eyes filled with tears.
“ Calm down?! We’re about to be dead meat in a vegan place!”
The customers beside us glance curiously at us as I try to calm her down. I don’t have to turn around to know that he’s there staring at us, waiting for me. I lean over the table to take her wrist in my hand, lowering my voice.
“ I don’t think he’s going to kill us in broad daylight and if he was he’d probably do it already.” I forcefully whisper.
“ You don't know that! That" she points in his direction and I quickly slap her finger down.
" Don't point at him!" I tell her and she folds her fingers into fists and lowers her head.
" That is the same guy that almost killed you in your own place for all we know he can do it any time or who knows what he wants. This is New York. He probably saw you on the newspaper cover and decided to trail you for some weird belief.” she runs a hand over her face glancing back at him then back at me, her hands shaking slightly. She takes loud deep breaths. “ We’ll call the guards and the police and we won’t go anywhere without being very heavily guarded.”
I roll my eyes at her. Clearly, he’s here for something and even though I was scared as hell I had to find out what he wanted.
“ Okay, here’s what.” Her blue grey eyes stare at me expectantly full of hope. “ I’m going to talk to him and you will stay here.” I say slowly.
“ Have you lost your mind!” she practically screams.
Now everyone is looking at us including the waiters. Her cheeks are now red adding colour to her face and I clasp my hands before trying again. Caroline has always been a hysteric.
“ Caroline if anything happens one of us needs to be alive to take care of things.”
“ I could never run the empire. It would crash and burn within the first two weeks even with Charles’ help.” she scoffs back at me in a squeaky tone. Well, she does have a point. I just needed her to let me handle this.
“ I just need you to focus here. I will be fine. I promise.” she starts shaking her head, confusion starting to take over features as I continue. “ I have my phone with me in case they drag me off somewhere. If you don’t hear from me in the next twenty minutes then call the police and Charles.”
“ It takes less than twenty minutes to die. I’ve watched enough CSI to know how this thing works.”
Her lower lip trembles and I’m fighting not to laugh. She reaches over to grab my hand and looks at me determined.
“ If we go down we go down together. I’m your ride or die because we’re family to the very end.”
I pause tiredly looking at her.
“ What movie is this from Caroline?”
She shyly glances away with a serious face, her cheeks turning pink.
“ Fast and the Furious.”
She really needs to socialize more.
“ Okay, I'm going to go. Don't worry I wouldn’t go if I wasn’t positive I would be fine plus you know what he looks like. If anything you know what to do”
I stand up and quickly run off before she can protest hearing her topple over the dishes and utensils as I head towards the dead murderous blue eyes waiting for me. His eyes send a warm shiver through me that I fight not to show.
“ You’re here to finish the job?” I ask him angrily and he doesn’t say anything but look to the side where a black tinted van is waiting on the sidewalk. How the hell does he even get a parking space in this crammed-up space and for so long without a ticket or being towed?
“ I’d just like to have a word with you” his extremely deep voice surprises me. It is commanding leaving no room for options, his blue eyes are unnerving as if he’s looking at my very soul leaving me bare. I shift uncomfortably, leaning on the heel of my foot and I’m reminded that I didn’t take my shoes with me.
“ You have some nerve. You terrifyingly threaten and hold me up at gun point and expect me to get in a tinted car with you?!” I stare at him incredulously, feeling my anger starting to rise.
“ Yes” he answers simply as if the question is a stupid one and I tilt my head to look at him. I could feel the fear in my throat and I made sure to put a good distance between us in case he grabs me.
“ Who am I getting in the car with?”
He looks indecisive before he responds.
“ Cain Mahin”
Cain Mahin? Why is this name familiar? Why do I know this name?
He was reading my confused expression but for the life of me I couldn’t think of where and why I knew the name Cain Mahin. I open my mouth and he harshly growls out cutting me off.
“ You have one more question or I’m throwing your little ass in the vehicle.”
I raise my eyebrows at him squaring up with him.
“ This is harassment and kidnapping”
“ Do you want me to pull my gun out?”
“ You have to say please.”
“ What?” he says, dangerously inching closer.
“ You have to say please Mr. Mahin.”
His blue eyes are now blazing and I can see the fury rolling off of him. I glanced back inside the restaurant uneasily weighing my options. A scary chill ran down my spine and I backed up further from him in fear of what he would do.
“ Can you please get in the car?”
A moment passes as we look at each other before I agree.
“ Okay”
I quietly walk past him purposely brushing against his grey suit to slide into the back seat of the van. The partition between the back and the front seat is up and I try not to ogle his well built frame as he slides into the van.
He closes the door and the car takes off and I look at him expectantly. Good Lord he is handsome. After a few seconds he starts to talk.
“ We’re going around the block.”
The entire space is filled with his scent and I breathe him in quietly waiting for him to speak. He definitely knows how to demand attention and keep control. There is something about him.
“ The house you bought on 85th street. I need you to sell it to me.”
“ Why?” I ask him, not daring myself to look at him, I needed to focus. The car stops at a stoplight and I wait for his response which comes after the lights turn green.
“ Because I need you to sell it to me.” he bites out irritatedly.
“ I can’t sell it to you unless I know what you’re going to be using it for Mr. Mahin. I'm planning on using it to house illegal immigrants and to help get them back on their feet. Why do you want it?”
“ Well, if you don’t sell it back to me then you will never house anything there. I will kill everyone that sets foot in that building.” he threatens.
I laugh cruelly at him folding my arms.
“ So you invite me in here to continue with your threats.”
“ You can find another house to carry out your little do good project to brag about over caviar dinners. Stop being a pompous do gooder and sell me the house.”
This stung deep and I turned to fully look at him. A cold tightening forming within me.
“ I don’t deal with threats kindly and you are out of bounds. Not only have you threatened and harassed me Mr. Mahin whoever you are but you are trying to bully me out of my own property. If you wanted it you should have worked harder so I didn't buy it. I’m not selling you anything not now or ever and you will rot in hell before I ever consider it.”
“ Is that so?”
“ I made myself clear.” I tell him defiantly and he knocks on the partition. The vehicle takes its time to slow down to a stop after which he reaches over on his side of the door and releases the lock.
“ You can get out.”
I reach for my door only to realize it’s locked. The only way out is through his door and the only way through his door is over him. He was being spiteful.
“ This is ridiculous." I say angrily "You’re going to keep me hostage?”
“ Hostage Ms. Hyram? You want to get out then there’s the door.” he says challengingly. “ Plus I can wait here all day.”
I looked over at the door and I can feel my stomach tightening in knots and fear as I look frighteningly at his large imposing body spread out in the seat. There is no way I would just brush past him. He leans back relaxed looking at me and I want to curse the devil out but then again he might change his mind and lock the door keeping me in here for whatever reason. I know he has a plan but I wasn't one to back down.
Just hop over him and get out. It would be easy if his eyes didn’t make my insides unravel all the time. I could feel my palms sweating and I hike my skirt up a bit nervously as he watches me intently never taking his eyes off of me like a hawk.
I can feel my heart bursting through my chest and the thumping in my ears as I reach beside him and sling one leg over him. That’s when it happened. His large hands grab my waist forcefully pulling me down on him hard. Before I could scream his lips covered mine and I hopelessly grab onto his shoulders to steady myself. His lips were soft but his kiss was harsh and unforgiving. My mind was reeling not able to process it all while my heart felt like it was about to tear out of my chest.
His warm hands roughly and forcefully traveled up my thighs and he slowly swerved his hips pressing his hard bulge into my core. I gasped and cried out in surprise, clenching desperately on his hardness in response, my fingers gripping his shoulders and his tongue was now dominating me. I couldn’t keep up with his fiery tantalizing kiss. I couldn't keep up. I was hot and my underwear getting increasingly wet as he continued to press his hard bulge against me, against the thin fabric. I have to stop. I jarringly pull away quickly opening the door almost falling on my face only to land on my feet on the hot sidewalk . I quickly pulled down my skirt not caring what building I was in front of. I could hear his loud laughter behind me as I ran as fast as I could like my life depended on it.
