The phone rang, a high-pitched evil sound. Chumana reached over and picked it up, sounding groggy.
"Hello?"
A Voice, distorted, or course, spoke to her. She sat straight up in bed, not believing, and sending Ren into a murmuring frenzy.
"What?"
The Voice repeated.
"No. I can't."
The Voice.
"No."
She paled and swallowed, seeing, and hating, her only choice.
"Fine. I'll do it."
The Voice approved, and then hung up.
Chu looked over to Ren after putting the phone back on the charger and placed her hand on the woman's head.
"I'm sorry," she whispered as a tear was loosed.

It had been four hours since Chumana had gotten the phone call. Since then, she had finished three and a half pots of coffee, and had constantly thought about a way, any way, out of what she had to do. A sigh broke from her mouth, brutally killing the silence that she was engulfed in. Chumana took the last swig of her coffee and was going for another when she was startled by a loud yawn. She very nearly dropped her glass cup. Ren walked into the kitchen wearing nothing but a large novelty t-shirt and her lovely dark coloured panties (a rather lovely shade of emerald green today).
Chumana barely kept her cup in her hands as she poured yet another cup of coffee. She wasn't going to sleep for the next few days. Ren sat down at the small table and yawned again before speaking.
"What's for breakfast?"
Chumana leaned herself against a solid wood wall. She didn't normally eat solid breakfasts; drinks were more than enough for her energy. Unless she had to go for an entire day of Hunting, and then it was necessary to eat something. Chu took a sip from her mug before answering.
"Whatever you can find."
Ren tilted her sleepy head. Chu was normally much more affectionate, so this new coldness was odd to her.
"Did something happen while I was sleeping?"
Chu stiffened slightly; a trained eye would have trouble noticing. There was no way that she was going to tell Ren what actually happened while she was sleeping. She gave the woman a soft shake of her head and took another swig of her coffee. If she didn't know any better, she would have slumped and looked away from Ren. Instead, she steeled her nerve and kept staring at the light blue haired woman. Chu gave a soft shrug as she spoke, to add a nonchalant air to her words.
"Nothing worth mentioning..."
Chu left the statement open, knowing full well that Ren would wonder about that statement. She was right; Ren narrowed her eyes at herself curiously. Chu shrugged again as she finished off her coffee with a deep drink.
"Really. Nothing happened; I mean, you wouldn't stop snuggling my legs, but that's it, honestly."
Ren blushed deeply, trying to think of a way to deny that truth; she was a snuggler in bed. When she found no escape from it, she admitted to, and apologized for the snuggling, all the while blushing furiously.
"I suppose I am. I am very sorry about that, Chumana."
Chu grinned darkly; Ren was playing right into her hands. She pushed herself from the counter and walked over to Ren, whose blush deepened. Chu slammed her hand against the wall with Ren between herself and said wall. Chu pressed close, making sure that their lips were close enough to meet, but not, because she needed to speak.
"You can snuggle against me anytime you wish, darling..." Chu purred seductively before continuing in a more serious tone; "Get dressed. We have a mission."
With that, Chu pushed away from Ren, not touching her, which was unusual, and walked into the other room to get herself ready.
Ren stuck to the wall a moment longer. Chu's breath was still warm on her lips. She sighed deeply. In the short time the two had been together, she had grown quite attached to the other woman. Heaving a sigh, Ren decided that she'd hung back long enough. Pushing herself off of the wall, she took off down the hallway toward the bedroom that she and Chu shared, since Chu had nobody to share anything with.
She didn't bother with the door; she saw more of Chumana on a daily basis than she cared to admit. Chumana had already dressed and had set out a set of clothes for Ren to wear. As Ren pulled o the light, almost silky dress, Chu set about cleaning, and covering her gunshot wound. After the incident the other day (Ren shuddered at the horrid memory), Chumana had tended to her before she took care of her gunshot wound. It almost made Ren's heart flutter. Almost. She wasn't sure what was going on with herself, but she certainly didn't like it.
Clearing her throat, she finished dressing and went to stand by Chumana, who was wincing as she prodded around the freshly healing wound. Looking down at the dirtied wrapping, Ren sighed lightly and extended her hand.
"Come here. Let me take care of that. It's going to get worse if you don't keep it clean." she smiled as Chumana took her hand.
Dragging the woman (carefully) into the small bathroom, Ren pushed Chumana down onto the toilet seat and searched for the proper tools for the job. When she had all she needed, she began to remove the wrapping (ignoring a fussing Chumana) and examined the nasty looking wound.
"Did you even take the bullet out?" she asked as she looked up at Chumana.
Chumana looked away as if she were embarrassed. Clearing her throat lightly, and attempting to hide her blush, answered with an "Of course I did!" before wincing and very nearly kicking Ren in the gut. A growl escaped her, which earned her a glare from Ren.
"This wound doesn't look very clean, Chumana." Ren reached down and pressed around the bullet hole gently, which caused Chumana to scream out in pain, start crying, and nearly wet herself. "What in the hell are you doing!?" she screeched. She was gripping the sink very hard, tears rolling down her face.
"The bullet is still in there." Ren glared at the crying woman, who looked away. "I don't have the proper tools to remove it, Ren. And I don't have time to dress it properly." she murmured softly. Ren sighed hard and prodded around the wound again, gauging it. Chumana screamed loudly in pain, and tried to kick the woman. "STOP IT!" she screeched again. "That hurts!"
Ren shook her head. "If you don't stop screaming, it's going to hurt worse." she tutted, standing up. She looked around in one of her bags for some long nose forceps. Finding them quickly, she kneeled in front of Chumana. Looking up at her, she held those forceps at the ready. "Stay still. If you move the wrong way, I can paralyze you for life." she warned. "This is going to hurt like a b***h, but there will be relief when I pull the bullet out."
She explained, nodding. Looking back down to the wound, she held her fingers on either side of the wound gently and reached those forceps into the gnarly looking bullet hole. Chumana screamed as loud as her voice would allow and tensed all the muscles in her body. She knew that Ren was correct about her paralyzing her, but that didn't make it hurt any less.
Ren gripped the bullet with those forceps and pulled it out as quickly as she dared. She didn't want to do any more damage than already was done. When she dropped the bullet in the sink, Chumana let out a huge sigh of pained relief. Her leg was bleeding onto the floor, but she didn't care at all. While the pain was enough to make her pass out, she barely kept conscious as Ren cleaned the wound and dressed it.
"You'll need to rest today. Whatever you had planned for today can wait." she murmured, standing. "Come." she held her hand out and waited for Chumana to take it. When she did, Ren helped her up slowly and escorted her to their shared bed. Sitting on the side of the bed with Chumana, she sighed. Knowing she was right, but still not wanting to, Chumana flopped over, wincing in pain as her leg stung very badly.
She scooted over and tugged Ren next to her. "If I'm to stay in bed, you'll stay with me." she grunted. Ren nodded her agreeance and laid next to the bounty hunter she had come to love in her own way. "Whatever it takes to get you to rest." she agreed. Laying next to the beautiful woman, Ren nodded off quickly. She hadn't intended to, but she was still tired from the other days' events.

Chumana slept for a few hours before sitting up in the bed. There was a noise at the window to her bedroom. She turned her face to the window and watched as Eryn crawled her way inside. Chumana looked away briefly as she sighed. She hated that she had agreed to this. She looked back at Eryn and nodded. "She's been asleep for a while now, but we shouldn't wake her." she murmured. Eryn nodded and pulled out some chloroform and soaked a rag with it. Placing it upon Ren's nose and mouth, she waited for a few moments for it to work as Ren passed into a deeper sleep.
Eryn lifted the tiny woman upon her shoulder and went to leave the decrepit home. Chumana grabbed her arm before the hermaphrodite left. "You better take care of her." she growled softly. Eryn grinned darkly. "Don't worry. I will." she licked her lips. "Who knows, I might have to shoot you in the other leg to keep her." She tugged away from the injured Hunter. "Now, if you'll excuse me. We have a long journey ahead of us." With that, she turned on her heel and exited the house, climbing atop her dun mare and riding off into the night.
Chumana leaned back against the wall and began to cry very hard, hugging herself tightly.
"I'm sorry, Ren... I'm so sorry..."
