Escape

How did things get to this? My life was pretty much normal but now, I'm just learning that my very own blood and the only family I had was after my life. This was a moment in my life that I'll never be able to forget no matter how hard I try. The bang echoed through the silent room, jolting me from my thoughts. My heart raced as I swiftly ended the call with Melissa, a wave of unease overcame me. My hands trembled as I rose from my seat, each step fraught with apprehension as I approached the door with a heavy sense of foreboding hanging in the air like a thick fog. The door swinged open as I met with the sight of a disheveled man "Can I help you?" I asked, my voice tinged with caution as I observed his every movement, his words slurred with intoxication. “I… Is this the b…bathroom?” he stammered, struggling to maintain his balance. “No!” I hissed, impatience creeping into my tone as I firmly shut the door, the click of the latch punctuating the tense atmosphere of the hallway. I retreated to my bed, I sank onto the mattress, adrenaline coursing through my veins as I grappled with the aftermath of the encounter. It was enough to deny me from having any sleep tonight. I was still shaken by the weight of betrayal. With the dawn's first light filtering through the curtains, I found myself wide awake at 6 a.m., my bags were packed and I was ready to move forward. With a steady resolve, I moved through the quiet corridors of the pack house, the hushed morning magnifying the echo of my footsteps as I ventured towards freedom. As I made my way through the aftermath of last night's party, reminders of the party were scattered everywhere, a proof that the Alpha's mating ceremony was celebrated in a grand way. "It was supposed to be my paryty..." I muttered to myself softly. I moved carefully, making sure my departure went unnoticed by anyone still lingering behind. Stepping outside, I stowed my belongings in the back seat of the cab, my heart fluttering with a mix of nerves and excitement for what lay ahead. With every passing minute, I became even more restless. I wanted nothing more than to leave this place as soon as possible. This brought me closer to the unknown that awaited me. I was clouded many thoughts, yet beneath it all, a glimmer of hope flickered for the possibilities that awaited. Five hours later, I roused from my slumber as the air hostess' voice filled the cabin, announcing our impending arrival. Melissa had always been the fashionista when we were in highschool. I was certain she'd have become an incredible fashion icon if she weren't the Luna. She wore a stylish pair of red jeans, perfectly tailored to accentuate her figure, paired with a denim jacket casually slung over her to complete her ensemble. The black sunglasses she had hile added a touch of mystique to her look. In her presence, she gave off an aura of beauty and confidence, making me wish I could step into her shoes for just a day. But alas, that opportunity never seemed to present itself. "Hey, bestie," Melissa greeted me with a warm smile as I approached her. Her embrace enveloped me in a sense of comfort and familiarity, almost bringing tears to my eyes. It had been too long since our last encounter, and the sight of her filled me with both joy and longing. "Thank you for being here; I honestly didn’t expect you to arrive so early," I expressed my gratitude, genuinely touched by her presence. "I'm a girl of my word. Plus, when you sounded troubled, I couldn’t help but worry. I tried calling my husband to come pick you up, but he's been a bit hesitant. I didn’t want to risk leaving you stranded at the airport, so I decided to come myself," she explained, her voice tinged with concern as she shrugged her shoulders with a nonchalant smile. "What’s up with you, Patricia? You sounded urgent over the phone last night," she said, stepping back to study my face for a moment. I shut my eyes, trying to hold back my tears. “I’m famished,” I informed her. She gave me a sharp look and then helped me put my luggage in the car. I noticed the sadness on her face as she loaded the bags into the trunk. I wanted to apologize for not answering her questions earlier, but my hunger took precedence. Finally settling into the car, I leaned back against the headrest and closed my eyes, trying to push aside the uncomfortable thought of being in the same space as Melissa's Husband. “Hey, about food, I think we should stop at a restaurant so you can eat before we go home,” Melissa suggested as she turned the ignition and started the car. "It’s an Italian restaurant, and I bet you'll love the food there," Melissa chuckled as we left the airport parking lot. I noticed the mischievous look she gave me. "Can we go already?” I groaned, feeling impatient. Melissa looked surprised at my sudden change in mood but didn't say anything. I turned to the window, wondering if coming to Texas was a good idea. It had to be, I told myself, even if I had doubts. "Melissa, please move the car," I whispered, edging closer to her side and feeling the tension between us. She stayed quiet, focusing on the road and occasionally glancing my way. Suddenly, she accelerated, and I screamed, gripping the seat tightly as she swerved. After what felt like ages but was only three minutes of wild driving, she slammed on the brakes and pulled over by the roadside. My heart raced as I shot her a glare, feeling a mix of fear and frustration. “What?” she shot back, meeting my glare with one of her own. “Patricia, are you okay?” “I wanted us to talk about everything over lunch at the restaurant, but I can't keep it in until then. I just didn’t expect us to meet in this situation and in this mood,” I explained, my voice breaking between words. I sensed Melissa's sensitivity, and I could tell she was holding back from saying more. She knew I was hiding something, but I couldn’t bring myself to reveal it. I knew she would break down, just like she always did in the past. She hadn't changed a bit. I clenched my hands, trying to keep them from trembling as they usually did when I felt anxious or sad. The atmosphere in the car thickened between us like a heavy fog. I could feel Melissa's gaze on me, her concern was evident even though she tried not to show it. Yet, I couldn't bring myself to meet her eyes, the weight of my own emotions too burdensome to bear. I lost track of how long we remained quiet the minutes stretched on, each second feeling like an eternity. I could sense the unspoken words lingering in the air, heavy with the weight of our unresolved issues. We both waited to see which one of us would finally break the silence. After the Long pause, she spoke again. "What’s up with you, Patricia? You sounded urgent over the phone last night," she said, stepping back to study my face for a moment. I shut my eyes, trying to hold back my tears. "Thank you for coming through; I didn’t think you would be out waiting already." We continued driving to the restaurant in silence. There, I told her everything that had happened without holding back any information. Once I was done with my long and winding tale Melissa sat dumbstruck in one spot, too stunned to blink. She did not even move. “The witch finally hatched her evil plans. I mean, I’m sorry she’s your sister, but she’s got some nerves. How dare she?! And anty Maya how could she?!Melissa finally let out her emotions, totally disregarding the decorum required at the restaurant. Despite the puzzled looks from other customers, she didn't seem to mind as she unleashed her frustration. "She's a total douchebag. That b***h!" Her words dripped with venom, cutting through the air with palpable anger. A tear escaped down my cheek, a silent testament to my inner turmoil and dismay. "And to think that you got rejected by your mate is preposterous, if you ask me," she added, her voice laced with disbelief and indignation. “What happens now” Melissa asked with concern, recalling that I didn't know anybody outside the just my I would receive after finding my mate. “"I don't think I care about it at the moment. What I really need is peace, tranquility, and perhaps the prospect of a new beginning," I confided, the weight of recent events settling heavily upon my shoulders. The realization that my life had undergone a profound shift loomed large in my mind, a stark reminder of the changes that lay ahead. As our conversation wound to a close, we made our way to Melissa's house, the familiarity of her presence offering a semblance of solace amidst the chaos of my emotions. "I think it's time for me to bid you farewell for now. I'm feeling quite exhausted," she announced wearily, her voice tinged with fatigue as she tenderly ran her fingers through my long hair, a gesture of comfort before retiring to her room. Alone on the couch, I sank into its comforting embrace, the glow of the television casted a warm ambiance throughout the room. With each bite of potato chips, the crunch sound ecgoed in the quiet space, offering a familiar atmosphere that eased the weight of the evening. As I savored the simple pleasure of snacking, memories of the evening with Melissa flooded my mind. We had shared laughter and conversation, lost in the simple joy of each other's company. Together, we had immersed ourselves in the familiar embrace of our favorite television series, finding solace in the comfort of shared moments and cherished memories. With Melissa's departure, I found solace in the world unfolding on the television screen, the characters becoming my temporary companions in the quiet of the living room. Time seemed to blur as the plot thickened, drawing me deeper into its captivating narrative. After about half an hour, the calm of the room was broken by the soft sounds of movement and approaching footsteps. They stirred me from my quiet thoughts, filling me with a mix of curiosity and a touch of apprehension. "Melissa, weren't you heading to bed? What's going on?" I asked, a hint of amusement in my voice as I turned to address her. I half-expected her to return for a late-night snack or to grab something she forgot. My amusement faded quickly as I turned around. Standing before me was the last person I expected to see at this late hour. It was Alpha Dwayne, Melissa’s husband. His presence was took command of the room. He stood tall, his bare chest and the loosely wrapped towel around his waist hinting at an unexpected twist in the evening's events. My heart started beating faster, feeling unsure and surprised as I tried to understand what was happening. Melissa not being there made the situation even more real, and I had to face it all by myself. Alpha Dwayne looked at me, his face showing a mix of emotions I couldn't quite figure out. Silence filled the air between us, full of questions we didn't say out loud, and a tension that seemed to hang in the room. As everything got quiet, I felt so many emotions swirling inside me. I didn't know what to do with this unexpected situation. I really wanted to say something, to break the heavy silence hanging in the air, but I just couldn't find the right words. I braced myself for the inevitable exchange that would follow. I couldn't tell what sort of revelations lay ahead and acutely aware of the shifting dynamics in the room. Alpha Dwayne still looked every inch like the hot Alpha he was. His black and silver hair was thoroughly wet as water streamed down his face, dripping onto his bare chest. He ran his eyes over my body, seemingly stripping me entirely naked with his gaze. I could tell he was surprised to see me.
