Chapter 1
Aveline's POV:
At the wedding, the bride suddenly switched the big screen to financial transfer records and intimate photos between me and the groom.
On March 3rd, I sent a message.
Aveline: Baby, I'm out of money. Transfer 1 million dollars to me.
The next second, a 1-million-dollar transfer popped up, and I accepted it immediately.
On March 15th, I sent another.
Aveline: The old man is away on business. I'm so lonely by myself. I'm coming to your place. Leave the door unlocked for me!
The other side instantly replied with a nodding kitten emoji.
Maxene Ellsworth slapped a sheet of paper printed with the words Professional Gold Digger onto my face, then drenched me from head to toe in wine.
"You scammed over 10 million dollars from my husband in a single year! You old woman sure has a massive appetite! You filthy old w***e, you better spit back every cent you scammed from my husband today and crawl out of here on your knees! Otherwise, I'll make sure you don't walk out of this door alive!"
I stared at the screenshots on the big screen, suppressing the rage rising in my chest.
"Do you even know who I am?"
The icy red wine trickled down my cheek as Maxene rolled her eyes at me.
"Aren't you just a gold-digging homewrecker? What, bold enough to do it but too cowardly to own up to it?"
The surrounding guests cast scornful, disgusted glances at me, and many began pointing and whispering in quiet indignation.
"Goodness, she's dressed so impeccably, but to think she's actually a professional gold digger who slept her way to the top!" one guest sneered.
Another chimed in, "No wonder she can afford a custom silk gown, it was all bought with money earned on her back."
"Constantly going on about 'the old man is away on business,'" a woman muttered. "She's obviously being kept by another sugar daddy. Cheating with two men at once is bad enough, but coming here to crash the legitimate bride's venue? Absolutely shameless!"
"To run into something this disgusting on such a joyous day..." a man added with disgust. "If I were the bride, I'd skin this old mistress alive!"
Vicious insults and mockery surged toward me from all directions like a crushing tidal wave.
I pulled the wet paper off my face, looking at Maxene in her pure white wedding dress, feeling only a deep sense of absurdity.
I lived abroad for most of the year, returning home only occasionally. When I heard that my son was getting married, I flew back overnight on my private jet to attend his wedding.
To give him a pleasant surprise, I arrived early without telling him beforehand. But instead of giving him a surprise, I ended up with a massive shock.
Suppressing my displeasure, I took the initiative to explain, "Dominic and I aren't in the kind of relationship you think. I'm—"
"You're what?" Maxene cut me off, screeching at the top of her lungs. "You're just a shameless vixen!"
