Ash stayed flat on the ground and continued to sniff the surrounding air. I was glad for the cover of the trees all around us and relieved that Ash hadn't burst out into the clearing before he had caught the scent, whatever it was.
His ears twitched as he listened intently.
I stayed silent as I let him assess the situation.
I was interested to know what scent it was that he picked up. I wondered what it could be and why it had him so on edge.
He barely moved a muscle as he lay tensed on the ground, his body ready to pounce at a second's notice.
Eventually, I felt his body begin to relax as he rose from his position on the ground.
" Whatever or whoever it was, they don't appear to be here any longer," he told me.
