Chapter One
Jacob
My name is Jacob Adams, and along with my identical twin brother Jack, I am set to inherit the Pine Forest pack from our Step Dad Drew.
It might seem strange that we are next in line to be the Alpha's, especially given that we technically don't have any Alpha blood in our veins, but our mother Isabella is actually in fact one of the last members of the royal pack.
We moved to the Pine Forest Pack when we were six after our mum caught our dad cheating on her with a woman we have since found out was actually his mate, not that mum knew any of that at the time.
None of us knew anything about werewolves, well, except for what you have read in fictional stories.
As luck would have it, Mum had met Drew when we were all on holiday, and it turned out he was her mate.
I am so happy we went on that holiday as our lives changed so much after, in a good way.
Mum began to smile, really smile, every day, and we all found a loving home.
Our dad ended up killing his mate to save our lives, and now he is mated to Drew's sister Jen.
So both our step parents are also our aunt and uncle and our half sisters and half brother are also our cousins!
Confusing and complicated, I know, but everyone is happy, and it works, so who cares?
Today is the first day of our last year at high school, and honestly, I can't wait to leave.
School used to be ok when we were younger. The school was inside the pack grounds, and nearly everyone there was a wolf, and those few that weren't were well aware of our world.
But high school is different.
We have to go to one outside of the territory and it is a human one. Which means we have to be careful what we talk about and of course given the fact that we are werewolves and have much more physical strength than the average human of our age, we have to be careful when competing in sports. Imagine the damage we could do in a wrestling match.
Jack deals with it all better than me, but then he has always been the quieter one out of the two of us. He just blends in and keeps his nose clean, making sure his work is in on time and not causing any trouble. I think that is why he has healing power in his tears. He is so much more empathetic than me.
I, on the other hand, have the ability to move through time, although I have to be careful when I do. The very first time I did, I accidentally took my mum with me and she changed something big. It took a lot of effort on her part to set things right, and she has made it clear to me that I need to be extremely careful using my power.
So, with the exception of the odd time when I have been running late for a lesson, I haven't used it much.
Besides it has been made very clear to us over the last few years that having such unique gifts is a blessing but it also makes us a target to anyone who finds out about them and is crazy enough to abduct us so they can use us for our abilities.
This was something that used to terrify us both when we were younger, but now we are both older. we know we can take care of ourselves, so we don't worry about it too much anymore.
My alarm goes off for the third time, and I sigh to myself, I know it means I have to get up now, but I really can't be bothered.
Who needs school anyway?
I am going to be Alpha soon and Drew has also told us he is going to train us both up in his security business, so I just cannot understand why our parents are all insisting on us finishing high school.
A knock on my door finally forces me out of my bed, and I stomp over to open it, already fully aware that Jack is going to be stood on the other side.
" Morning J! " He says in a much too cheery voice as he pushes past me into my room without even being asked.
I glare at him as he walks past me.
How can he be so happy to be going to school?
As if reading my mind, he then carries on talking.
" I know you don't like school, but look on the bright side. This is the last year. After this we can do whatever we want. In fact, I might have overheard Mum and Drew talking with Dad and Jen about giving us both some money for a holiday when we finish school."
I couldn't help but perk up at that.
" Seriously?" I asked him.
He nodded.
" Yeah, seriously, but we have to get good final grades and attendance, so I suggest you get your butt in the shower now. Otherwise, we are going to be late."
He tossed a towel at me and started walking towards the door.
" I'll meet you downstairs. Hurry up because I'm not going to wait for you and risk being late myself."
I quickly jumped in the shower and washed myself. Then, once I was dried off, I threw on a pair of ripped faded jeans and a blink 182 band t shirt and ran down the stairs.
I now had a reason to go to school if it meant a holiday at the end of the year.
Jacob was true to his word and waiting for me when I got to the bottom of the stairs.
" No time for breakfast for you now." He grinned at me, knowing full well how much we both liked our food.
" I can just grab a quick bacon sandwich,"
I argued, but he shook his head.
" No need, I got one for you. We can take my car and you can eat it on the way."
Now, it was my turn to grin at him.
We may have had our fair share of arguments over the years growing up, but we have always got each others backs.
I followed him outside to where he had parked his car and hopped in the passenger side.
Jack climbed in and handed me my breakfast before he started the car and set off.
" So where do you want to go then, on holiday?" He asked me as he drove us towards school.
I shrugged.
" I don't care as long as Ruby can come too."
