Chapter Two

I sighed at Jacob's answer.

We have often discussed the possibility of finding our mates, but unlike me, he just doesn't seem interested. He is a bit of a player but lately he has been showing a lot of interest in one girl in particular.

I have to admit that seeing how happy both our parents are and how much they love and adore each other, it is something I have been dreaming of.

Considering Jacob and I are identical, you would think that we would have similar personalities, but in fact, we are almost polar opposites.

While I prefer a quiet life and study hard to keep my grades up, he would much rather be skipping class and hanging out with his friends on the football field or in the cafeteria.

As I drive my car towards our school, my mind begins to wander as I find myself thinking for the hundredth time about my mate, I wonder what she will look like. What colour her hair and eyes are.

I am so lost in my thoughts that I don't even realise we are almost at school until I hear Jacob sigh loudly next to me.

" Oh well, here we go again."

" I don't understand why you have such an issue with school. You are popular and all the girls fancy you."

" Yeah, I suppose." He shrugged next to me.

" Just please try not to get kicked out of any lessons, I really want this money for the holiday too." I told him.

" What difference does my behaviour make to whether or not you get to go?"

" It doesn't, but I don't really love the idea of going away on my own."

" Ok, fine. I will do my best to behave, " He said in a sarcastic voice as he fake saluted me.

I pulled the car into an empty space, and before I even had a chance to stop the engine, he was out. For a second, I was puzzled as to why for someone who hated school so much he was in such a rush, then I saw who he was walking towards.

Ruby Knight.

The most popular girl in school.

She was pretty, I suppose, but she was also the kind of girl who knew how pretty she was.

She strutted around the school in her four inch heels, short skirts, and tight, low-cut tops as if she owned the place, and to me, that just wasn't attractive.

It didn't help that she was one of the nastiest people I have met. She was cruel and selfish.

Besides, I highly doubt she is going to turn out to be my mate and for that reason, I would never be interested.

I am saving myself for my mate.

Don't get me wrong, I am no prude.

I have had plenty of kisses with girls in my time and even the odd bit of foreplay when I have been to one of those awful high school parties that Jacob has dragged me along to, but my virginity, that is sacred and I am not going to have s*x with anyone until it is my mate.

Climbing out of the car, I watch as Jacob strolls casually towards Ruby. She turns towards him just as he reaches her, and her face spreads into a huge grin.

" Hey babe!" I hear her say even from my distance, thanks to my werewolf hearing.

" Come to walk me to class?" She flutters her eyelashes at him and sticks out her barely covered chest.

Before he can respond, a redheaded girl accidentally bumps into her, causing her to stumble on her ridiculously high heels.

Jacob catches her before she falls, but I can see her face turn from a fake flirtatious smile to a look of pure venom.

The redheaded girl looks terrified and is mumbling apologies whilst staring at the floor.

Ruby doesn't seem to give a s**t how sorry the poor girl is and lunged towards her, grabbing a handful of her lovely hair.

I can see how angry Ruby is with the poor girl, and I feel so sorry for her. I jumped out of my car, the engine still running, and quickly make my way over to the two girls and Jacob.

Unfortunately, I can not close the distance quickly enough as just before I reach them, Ruby furiously yanks a clump of the poor girls red locks from her scalp.

" Watch where you are walking. Freak" She spits at her.

Jacob pulls Ruby away from the poor girl who is now clutching her head, her eyes shining wet with the tears that threaten to fall.

She nods her head and mumbles an apology before turning and running into the school.

" What the hell, that was completely uncalled for!" I glare at Ruby as I reach them.

I throw at look at Jacob, waiting for his support. Sure, he would back me up.

To my surprise, he looks conflicted.

" What do you mean? She bumped into me and nearly knocked me over! I could have broken my ankle if Jacob hadn't caught me." Ruby pouted at me like a petulant child.

Jacob gave me a quick look of apology, and I knew instantly which side he was going to be on.

" Ruby is right. That girl should have been looking where she was going. We were just standing here minding our own business."

Ruby grinned at me, clearly thrilled that my own twin had taken her side.

" Even so, there was no need for that reaction." I pointed down at Ruby's hand, which was still holding the shreds of hair that had pulled from the poor girls head.

I wasn't going to back down from this one, and Jacob knew it.

Before anyone else could speak, the school bell sounded loudly and cursed under my breath.

My car was still running, and now I was going to be late for class, for the first time in my life.

I turned and ran back to my car, mindlinking Jacob as I went.

" This is not over."

" Dude, let it go. We don't even know that girl."

" That's not the point, and you know it." I angrily responded before I put up a block.

I wasn't going to argue with him about this through mindlink.

I quickly turned my car engine off and slammed the door before running back towards school.

As I entered into the main corridor, I could see Jacob and Ruby approaching her classroom door, her walking with an overly exaggerated limp and leaning heavily on Jacob.

I rolled my eyes as I ran past them towards my first class of the day.

They didn't even look in my direction as they proceeded to have an over the top goodbye kiss.

I entered my classroom and made my way to my desk, pleased to see that even though I was technically late, the teacher didn't seem bothered.

I guess being a good student had its perks.
