The digital clock on the nightstand had ticked past seven in the morning when Lucy’s mind finalized the blueprint. If she simply asked her father for Brian, Arthur’s sharp corporate intuition might catch on. He would ask why she suddenly wanted a random sales representative.
To bring Brian into her orbit, her current driver, Rajesh—a loyal family employee who had served them safely for three years—had to go. And he had to leave in a way that forced her father to find an immediate, trusted replacement on his way out the door.
She knew the villa was heavily guarded with state-of-the-art security, but her private bedroom suite was an intentional blind spot. No cameras were allowed past her threshold for the sake of privacy. The hallway cameras would only capture Rajesh entering her room and running out in a panic, and since the house intercoms kept no recordings, it would be his word against hers. The system her father built to protect her would become the perfect weapon.
A cold, deliberate smile touched Lucy's lips as she walked into her attached bathroom. She turned on the shower, letting the steam fill the room, and picked up the internal house intercom.
Down in the staff quarters, Rajesh was just adjusting his uniform when the intercom buzzed. He picked it up quickly.
"Yes, Miss Lucy?"
"Rajesh, I left my laptop bag in the trunk of the car yesterday," Lucy’s voice came through, sounding slightly hurried, muffled by the sound of rushing water. "I need it immediately for an early morning review. Can you bring it up to my room right now? The door is unlocked."
"Of course, Miss Lucy. I will bring it up straight away."
Minutes later, the elderly driver walked up the grand staircase. As instructed, the heavy oak door to Lucy's bedroom suite was slightly ajar. He knocked politely, calling out, "Miss Lucy? I have the bag."
Hearing no answer over the loud thrum of the shower, Rajesh stepped into the bedroom, intending to leave the bag on the vanity desk.
Suddenly, the bathroom door swung wide open.
Steam billowed out into the bedroom. Lucy stood in the doorway, completely uncovered, clutching a towel halfway to her chest. Her eyes locked onto Rajesh.
The old driver gasped, completely mortified, and instantly spun around, dropping the bag. "I-I am so sorry, Miss Lucy! You told me to bring the—"
Before he could finish, a piercing, blood-curdling shriek shattered the morning silence.
Lucy dropped to her knees on the marble floor, pulling the towel tightly around herself as she burst into frantic, hysterical sobbing. "Get out! Get away from me! Help! Father, help!"
"Miss, I swear, I didn't—" Rajesh stammered, panic seizing his chest as he scrambled toward the exit.
But it was too late.
Down the hall, the time struck exactly seven-thirty. Arthur, fully dressed in his sharp corporate suit, was about to head downstairs. The sudden, terrified screams of his daughter echoed through the hallway, making him freeze.
Dropping his briefcase, the tycoon rushed to check the problem, his face pale with alarm. He burst into her room and took in the scene instantly: his daughter weeping hysterically, the steam from the bathroom, and the trembling driver standing in her private quarters.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Arthur roared, his voice shaking the walls.
"Father!" Lucy sobbed, throwing herself into his arms, her body trembling with flawless precision. "He... he came into the bathroom... he wouldn't leave... I was bathing and he—"
"You monster," Arthur hissed, his eyes turning murderous as he looked at Rajesh.
"Sir, please! She told me to bring the bag up! The door was open!" Rajesh pleaded, tears welling in his eyes. "I have served you for years, I would never—"
"Pack your things and get off my property before I have the police drag you away in chains!" Arthur bellowed, cutting him off entirely. "You are finished in this city. If I ever see your face near my daughter again, I will personally ensure you rot in a cell!"
An hour later, the villa had finally quieted down. Rajesh was gone, his reputation destroyed. Arthur had pushed his meeting back, his protective fatherly instincts entirely triggered.
In the dining room, Lucy sat wrapped in a plush silk robe, sipping hot tea. Her eyes were red-rimmed from her manufactured tears, but underneath the blanket, her hands were perfectly steady. Arthur paced the floor, still furious.
"I cannot believe I let that man near you for so long," her father muttered, rubbing his temples. "Don't worry, Lucy. I am going to contact the elite security agencies today. I will get you a heavily vetted, armed driver."
Lucy flinched intentionally, shrinking back into her chair. "No, Father... please. No security guards. They look so intimidating, and after what just happened, having a strange, aggressive man driving me around will just make me feel constantly terrified. I don't think I can trust anyone right now."
Arthur stopped pacing, looking at his daughter with deep concern. He hated seeing her look so fragile. He needed someone safe. Someone sharp, but completely unthreatening.
Suddenly, an idea flashed in his mind.
"Wait," Arthur said, his eyes lighting up as he remembered their breakfast conversation. "What about Brian?"
Lucy lowered her tea cup, her expression shifting into a well-practiced frown of confusion. "Brian? The sales representative? Father, he’s an office worker, not a chauffeur. Why would you suggest him?"
"Think about it, Lucy," Arthur insisted, stepping closer and sitting beside her, taking her hands in his. He began to pet them gently. "With what I saw in Brian yesterday... trust me, daughter, he would protect you. He is incredibly smart, highly observant, and completely respectful. He handled my personal vehicle flawlessly, and he is already an established employee. He isn't a stranger."
Lucy pulled her hands back slightly, playing hard to get. She looked away, biting her lip. "I don't know, Daddy... it feels weird. Shifting someone from the marketing department just to drive me around? What if he resents it?"
"He works for me," Arthur said firmly, a proud, protective smile returning to his face. "He will do as he is ordered, and it will be a major upgrade for his proximity to the executive level. Come on, sweetheart. Do this for my peace of mind. Let Brian be your personal driver. If he doesn't meet your standards, I will replace him instantly. But give him a try."
Lucy remained silent for a few agonizing seconds, pretending to heavily weigh the options. Finally, she let out a soft, defeated sigh and looked up at her father with a compliant, innocent smile.
"Alright, Father... if you trust him that much, I will try him."
Arthur smiled warmly, patting her shoulder. "Good girl. I will head to the office now and have HR handle the transfer immediately. He will be ready for you by this afternoon."
"Thank you, Daddy," Lucy murmured, burying her face in his chest.
Over her father's shoulder, facing the empty room, the vulnerability completely drained from Lucy's face. A slow, chillingly triumphant smile spread across her lips.
The trap was locked, and Brian had no idea he was walking straight into it.
