The first kiss

Chapter Fourteen — The First Kiss The city had grown quiet, the hum of late-night traffic fading into distant echoes. Lena and Ethan had lingered outside the café, reluctant to end their evening. The streetlights cast a warm glow over the wet pavement, reflecting a million tiny sparks of gold that seemed to mirror the tension between them. They walked slowly, side by side, their hands brushing occasionally, each touch sending a thrill through Lena she couldn’t quite hide. Finally, they stopped at a quiet corner, the air between them charged but gentle. “I… I don’t want tonight to end,” Lena admitted softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Ethan looked at her, his dark eyes calm and intense. “Neither do I.” For a long moment, they just stood there, letting the city fade away, letting the quiet wrap around them. Then, with a tentative courage, Ethan reached out, taking Lena’s hand in his. “I’ve been wanting to do this,” he murmured. Lena’s heart raced, a mixture of anticipation and something deeper—a trust she hadn’t allowed herself in a long time. Slowly, almost as if afraid to break the fragile moment, Ethan leaned in. Lena met him halfway. Their lips touched, gentle and questioning at first, then lingering, as though each of them was discovering something they had been missing all along. When they pulled back slightly, their foreheads resting together, Lena whispered, “I… I like this. I like you.” Ethan smiled softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. “I like you too. More than I can say.” The world seemed to exhale around them—the city lights, the quiet street, the night air. For the first time, Lena felt a certainty she had only glimpsed before: some moments, some people, could make all the fear and hesitation worth it. Hand in hand, they walked back toward the familiar glow of the café, hearts lighter, spirits braver, and a shared secret blossoming between them—a first kiss, but far from the last.
