Three days later, a large truck headed for Luoping County. I sat next to my second grandfather, looking out the window.
"What do you think of the feng shui of Luoping County?" he asked.
Since everyone around us was family, my second grandfather didn't feel the need to hold back.
"It's alright," he said. "With its rolling mountains, wind, and water, it should be considered a place of outstanding people and beautiful scenery."
"That's true, but what you see is only the surface. The feng shui of Luoping County is quite strange. You'll understand why I say this once we get there."
I nodded thoughtfully, and my second grandfather smiled with a look of satisfaction on his face.
Luoping County is indeed much farther from the city center. We took the only bus there, and it took us two hours to reach the county town.
As I stepped out of the car, I saw Uncle Hammer leading a few people over. His face looked tired, a clear sign of exhaustion. Their hurried manner suggested something major had happened. With so many people around, they couldn't worry about anything else and simply followed Uncle Hammer.
He led us to temporary accommodation. After entering and closing the door, Uncle Hammer finally spoke.
"Second Master, there's news, but..."
"But what? Hesitating like that isn't like you," my second grandfather said sternly.
Uncle Hammer hesitated for a moment before continuing. "During that time, a young man, similar in age and appearance to Li Yuan, did appear. But he only showed up once and then disappeared without a trace."
Upon hearing this, my second grandfather frowned. "So, we can't get a description of that person?"
"That's right," Uncle Hammer replied. "And the latest news is that those people actually entered..."
He pointed in a certain direction, implying something important.
"Are you sure this is Broken Head Ridge?" my second grandfather asked.
"That's right."
At that moment, I was taken aback. Broken Head Ridge was mentioned, and my mind immediately raced back to the story my father had told me years ago. It had taken place at Duantouling, not Broken Head Ridge.
However, back then, my second grandfather had only gone there with the golden talisman. Now, many years later, Duantouling had been brought up again. From the situation, it seemed Duantouling was located in Luoping County.
"Get ready, Hammer. Bring a few more men with you, and come in with me," my second grandfather ordered.
Uncle Hammer nodded and quickly waved to his brothers, preparing to pack and head to Duantouling.
"You shouldn't have come with me on this trip, but since this concerns Li Yuan, you'll be coming along this time. However, once we're inside, you must listen to me and stay by my side," my second grandfather instructed.
I nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation.
The disappearance of Li Yuan had haunted me for years, and I would not give up on finding him, no matter the cost. His disappearance was like an unresolved grudge that had lingered in my heart all this time.
After preparing, I saw Uncle Hammer and Lu Yifa waiting outside with five others. I walked out with my second grandfather, and Uncle Hammer handed me a backpack. Inside, I found some essentials, including a dagger.
It looked like it was for defense.
Seeing this, my second grandfather waved his hand, and the group headed outside. Though it was called a county town, it was about the size of a village. After passing through several alleys, we left Luoping County and arrived at a barren mountain range.
Looking at the direction of the mountains, I finally understood why my second grandfather had called the feng shui of Luoping County strange. From above, the county resembled a compass, with these mountain ranges at its center.
In feng shui, a layout based on the compass stars isn't inherently good or bad; it can vary endlessly. With good fortune, it could be an excellent site. With bad fortune, it could become a barren land.
It was not suitable for burial.
But now, it seemed that Luoping County was heading in the worst direction possible, especially since it was a poor area.
"Let's go," my second grandfather said.
As we walked towards the area, we kept a careful eye on our surroundings. In such desolate mountains, venomous insects and snakes were bound to be a threat. A bite here could be disastrous.
Fortunately, after walking for a long time, we hadn't encountered any. The only hindrance was the abundance of vines on the barren mountain, which slowed our progress.
"Second Grandfather, I heard you came here once before," I asked.
He nodded. "That's right. Back then, the Kim family wanted to obtain something. Jin Fu made a solemn promise, which is why I led my men here."
"Then, what's inside? What's the situation?" I pressed.
"I don't know," he sighed. "Back then, I only searched the outermost perimeter of Broken Head Ridge. I never went deep inside. Even so, we suffered significant losses."
I asked another question, but my second grandfather's face remained solemn.
We continued walking, and time passed quickly. It was already past four in the afternoon.
After a quick meal, the group resumed their journey to the innermost part of the mountain ridge. According to Uncle Hammer, the other group had already entered.
"We've been in this desolate mountain for several days now. Logically, we should be able to catch up soon," Uncle Hammer said. "We need to head towards the center of Duantou Ridge."
As the evening approached, I wondered whether we would catch up to the other group. Both the Zhou and Li families were investigating the matter, trying to uncover who was behind it all. If we found them, we would likely face violent retribution from the tomb-raiding family.
Night fell quickly, and Lu Yifa had several men set up the tent and arrange guards. After a brief chat, the men went their separate ways, and the camp settled into sleep.
In the middle of the night, I was awakened by a rustling sound outside, as if someone was moving through the grass near the campfire.
I slowly got dressed, gently pulled back a corner of the tent, and peeked outside.
The campsite was eerily quiet, with only the campfire burning. I looked around, hoping to see the night watchmen, but there was no sign of anyone.
The rustling grew louder, and something was definitely moving in the grass near the campfire.
My heart raced as I widened my eyes, trying to see what it was. Just then, two glowing red eyes met mine through the gap in the tent. I froze in fear, and before I could react, I jerked back in shock.
