The city skyline glittered against the night, a sharp contrast to the tension brewing in Jared Whitewall’s chest. From his penthouse office atop the towering Whitewall Industries building, he had a panoramic view of the world he controlled. Below, the chaos of bustling streets reminded him of the countless lives dependent on his empire. Yet, at this moment, none of it mattered.
Jared leaned against the glass wall, his piercing blue eyes scanning the horizon. His fingers curled into fists, his usually impeccable control slipping. Lucas’s eyes widened. “Your mate?”
Jared nodded. The word carried weight, a sacred bond that every werewolf yearned for yet feared. “It’s more than that. There’s something about her… something powerful. But I can’t shake the feeling that finding her will bring more than just answers.”
Lucas stepped forward, his tone cautious. “The packs are already uneasy. The rogues are getting bolder, and the rival Alphas are restless. If she’s as important as you say, claiming her could shift the balance of power… or spark a war.”
Jared turned back to the window, his jaw tightening. “I won’t let anyone harm her. She’s mine.” His voice carried the weight of his dominance, a reminder of why he was Alpha.
Outside, a faint breeze carried a familiar scent. Jared’s head snapped toward the window, his wolf stirring within him. There it was again the scent from his dreams. Wildflowers. His pulse quickened.
“Lucas,” he said, his voice sharp. “She’s here. Somewhere in this city.”
Lucas’s lips pressed into a thin line. “If she’s here, Alpha, we’ll find her. But we need to be careful. The rogues won’t let this go unnoticed.”
Jared’s office was silent after Lucas left, save for the hum of the city below. He sat at his desk, flipping through reports, but his mind refused to focus. The scent had been so strong tonight. The wolf within him howled for action, and his human side struggled to maintain control.

Jared’s lips tightened. The west docks were far too close to the heart of his territory. Whatever game the rogues were playing, they were testing his patience. And now, with his mate somewhere in the city, the stakes had risen exponentially.
He typed a quick response:
Keep me updated. And double the patrols around the park district.
