The New Job

I was to go to the Alpha’s office to find a new duty to be assigned. I knocked on the door. “Come in.” Alpha Donnie called out and I entered.

“Hi. Alpha. I was sent here to be assigned a new duty. I was told I wouldn’t be needed in the daycare anymore.”

“Yes, Lexi. I’m sorry, but after this weekend’s incident we don’t want to put you anywhere you could lose composure. But I did find a position for you. You’ll be working with Beth, our head Omega, in the packhouse. You’ll be mostly in the office helping her keep the duties of the other omega’s organized. She’ll explain once you get to her.” He says, barely looking up from his own stack of papers.

"So I'll be with the omega's in the pack from now on?" I asked.

"I'm sorry Lexi. I just had to put you someplace that you would be safe. You're a hybrid and I don't sense much more power from you than the omega's. This will only be until you go to the university and when you come back we can test your rank in the pack, okay?" He said with a sympathetic gaze.

“Okay. I guess I’ll go right over but Alpha, I hope you know I would never do anything to a pup. Nothing they could do would make me upset like that.” I said, as I walked out of his office. I know he said doesn't think I was guilty at trail, but I really hope he doesn't think I'm a loose cannon ready to blow.

Mrs. Beth Amier, the lead Omega’s, office is off of the pack dining hall. It’s not too far of a walk from Alpha Donnie’s office, so it doesn’t take me long to get there. I knock on her door but get no answer, so I decide to try the kitchen.

“Hey Amber, do you know where I can find Mrs Beth at?” I asked a girl I know from school who is one of our pack omegas.

“No, I’m sorry Lexi, she could be anywhere at this time of day. Do you need something in the kitchen that I can help you with?” She asks.

“No. I was just reassigned to be her assistant for my pack duties,” I explained.

“Nice. Her office is always unlocked. It’s a mess there, but I’m sure you can go in there and use the phone to call the different omega stations you can find soon enough. That’s what I usually do when I need her.” Amber explains.

“Thank you. I’ll do that and maybe I’ll start cleaning her office some in the meantime.” I say, as I walked back to the office.

Amber was not lying. This office is a mess. I didn’t even know where to find the phone. I think I’ll start by organizing the papers and tidying the office for Mrs Beth.

An hour later, this office looked like a different place. I noticed she does have a system which was easy to figure out and I put the papers away according to how she had it. Looks like she has spare uniforms in different sizes and I organized them from all over the place to being on the rack according to size. I had my headphones on and was dancing with the broom I found and sweeping up some of the mess on the ground when I felt a tap.

“Oh. Hi Mrs Beth. I was assigned as your assistant. I was just helping to organize your office.” I said, startled and hoping I wasn’t overstepping.

“No. Thank you. It looks great here. I actually ran into Amber coming in and she said you were trying to find me. Sorry I’ve been running all around today like a chicken with its head cut off. I must say if this is how my office is going to look, I think I am going to enjoy having an assistant.” Miss Beth praised.

“Thank you,” I said.

“I just came in here. There was a file on my desk for Marc Smith I needed. He said there were some issues with his payroll.” She says.

“Yes. I put it in the file cabinet. I’ll grab it for you. I hope I didn’t overstep. I just saw your filing system and wanted to organize some things for you. Here you go.” I handed her the file.

“Thank you. I see you even organized the papers inside. That’s going to make it a lot easier to go through.” She says, smiling.

“I saw there were some loose papers on the desk and I didn’t want them to get misplaced. I also organized a few other files that were on the desk and put them in the file cabinet and also made sure they were in alphabetical order.” I explained.

“Excellent. You know what. You’re here another hour. Let me show you how to pull this up on the computer so you can cross reference this information to what is in the system the Alpha has. I’ll write down the names of all the people that have said they had issues and that way I can have you handle that. Make sure you save my cell number also, so that way you can just call me directly and I’ll save yours as well. Are you here tomorrow too?”

“No ma’am. I’m only here on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tuesday and Thursdays Alpha has me a program after school.” I replied. I think it's best not to mention what type of program it was.

“And the weekends?” she asked.

“Well, I think I’m supposed to be free, but since I’m not allowed to leave the pack I’ll be around, I guess, if you need me. I wouldn’t mind earning some extra money,” I replied.

“Great because those weekends when we host other Alpha’s, have banquets and other events, I definitely need an assistant. Don’t worry, it’s not every weekend, but I’ll make sure you have a copy of my schedule and we can go over what dates in advance, but this weekend I need you for sure. We’re hosting the Alpha’s family from Red Rock Pack. To say he’s needy is an understatement. Most Alpha’s are very particular to how they like things and a list is sent in advance.” she says, showing me a list she had on her computer and she wasn’t kidding, it even says what temperature his room needs to be. I go to my backpack and pull out my tablet to take notes on everything I need to know as she explains everything. I thought working in a daycare was hard, but it has nothing on the different duties in the pack house.

This school year went by pretty fast and I really enjoyed working as Mrs Beth’s assistant. I’ve learned a lot about the pack’s inner workings. It was so interesting to learn so much about all the different packs for when they came to visit or when Alpha Donnie and Luna Tina went to visit them.

Training hasn’t been as bad as I thought it would be either. I’m still not a morning person, but it has become so routine. I’ve become used to it now and two days a week after school I have been doing the training routine assigned to me since last year's district convention.

It’s approaching the time for the district convention this year and I’d be lying to say I’m looking forward to it. I dread potentially running into that alpha who we shall not name and his crazy mate. Plus, this year I will be trying out to be accepted into the Hybrid Academy. I technically have another year left of high school, but if I'm accepted to go to the academy, I will finish my senior year there. I already have most of my high school credits, so it shouldn’t be too bad.

This year our parents are not coming with us. Instead, we were paired in rooms and would be grouped together on the first floor. Tia and Janet share a room together. I will be staying in a joining room with Amber.

Amber likes quiet and keeping to herself, but said she didn’t mind me staying in the room with her to keep her company, since it probably wouldn’t be a good idea for me to adventure out like last year. Since our room is joining I’ll probably go hang out more in Tia and Janet’s room anyway, just to give her space.

I drove my car with Amber and Janet drove hers with Tia. We arrived at 7:30am and checked in. I’m so glad Amber insisted on packing food for us so we could just check in and go to the initial welcome meeting. I can tell she’s excited. I don’t think she has many friends.

The meeting went well and we split the same as last year and planned on meeting up in the cafeteria again for lunch just as we did last year. It should be a safe space since not many ranked members eat lunch there.

I actually enjoyed this year's training. Being raised in a wolf pack, I have a lot of knowledge about my wolf, but I want to learn how to strengthen and control my other parts as well. I signed up for extra classes that will help with that and began looking into career choices.

I found it amazing how the Hybrid academy teaches normal college coursework that incorporates supernatural abilities. Knowing I was forced to go to the academy, I think after lunch I am going to look into the different areas of studies offered.

Class lets out for lunch and I was surprised to see Alpha Donnie and Luna Tina walking by the cafeteria.

“Hello Alpha, Luna.” I greeted them as I walked by.

“Lexi, are you going to the cafeteria? What do they have good in there”, Luna Tina asks

“Yes, I was going to meet my friends there. I love the BBQ but Janet says the seafood is fresh.”

“Those both sound good. We might stop in. Luna didn’t like the food at the restaurant earlier. We’re just going to look at the bar's food first,” Alpha Donnie says.

“Okay. I promise to leave some BBQ brisket just in case.” I said, smiling at Luna Tina.

“You better.” She replies, smiling back before they walk away.

I see the ladies already at a table, so I go to my BBQ section and make a plate and go to sit down. Umm. That first spoon full is just as I remembered. So delicious.

“What no dance this time?” Tia says jokingly.

“It almost had me. It is so good. How’s your pasta?” I asked.

“Delicious!” She says.

“Yes. I got the shrimp Alfredo and girl let me tell y..” Janet starts but stops mid sentence looking behind me. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned to see who it was.

“Oh, hi Corey.” I said, greeting him.

“Hi. I’m sorry but I have to ask you to leave.” He says with a stern face.

“Why?” Tia asked him.

“Her presence here is violating the restraining order.” He said, and motioned for two guards to come over.

“I don’t see that alpha of yours” Janet says to him and he points at the door on the opposite side of the cafeteria. Sure enough, Alpha Rashawn is standing there holding his mate who looks to be crying. Can someone say drama queen?

“Okay.” I said as I stood up, leaving my full plate of food and walked back out the door. I just entered with Tia, Janet and Amber following.
