Wine Time
"Do you ever feel like you’re living in one of these Romantic Comedies?” I asked my girls as I took a swig of my wine.
Once a month, we get together and have a movie night as our kids play together.
“ You kinda need to have romance in your life for it to be a Romantic comedy Lexi.” my friend Janet says.
“Come on Jan, she has been really busy lately. Maybe she did find a love interest while working in the Pack House. Did you decide to pick or chosen mate or something, Lexi? Brian did say you caught the eyes of a few of his warrior buddies.” Bria, the other in our three amigas friendship, replied.
“Definitely Have Not. Okay well, maybe it was the wine asking that because my life is probably more of a comedy. What kind of wine is this?” I joked, trying to change the subject.
At this point of my life, I don't think love is a possibility anymore. I have not had the best track record when it comes to dating and just can't let anyone into our lives. Not that I have much of a choice. There are a lot of males that would love to approach me for fun, but it never takes long to see not too many men looking to commit to a shewolf in my position.
What position is that you ask? Well first, I am a single mom. And before you ask, no, my mate didn’t die. No, I didn’t accidentally get pregnant during a random fling. Or at least I wouldn’t call it that. I actually met my mate. I fell deep in lust. Followed him to his pack, where we had quite a few steamy nights mating, but somehow he chose to reject us. And, yes, I said, us. He stuck to the rejection even after he found out I had become pregnant.
Then there’s a second thing that the full-blood male wolves steer away from. It is me being a hybrid. Many wolves look down on hybrids. And I have a unique mix that kind of scares many males due to both of my parents being hybrids as well.
“Girl, that is only your first glass and it’s a Wolf blended Sangria. It’s not even that strong.” Janet says, pulling me from my thoughts.
--CRACK-- BOOM--
“WE’RE OKAY” yelled from outside.
“Who’s turn is it to go check on the kids this time?” Bria asks.
“That was kind of loud this time. Maybe we all should go.” Janet suggested. I nodded, agreeing as we made our way to the back yard.
We find a bunch of rope tied to a tree branch and my 12 year old son Alex, Bria’s three boys, Izac (13 years old), Richie (9 years old), and Micheal (7 years old) along with Janet’s 10 year old twins Kevin and Jacob all looking up. It doesn’t look like any of them were hurt, but that was a huge branch.
“What in the world could you pups be doing to break that huge branch?” Bria inquired.
Izac replies, “Mom, I promise we were being safe. I thought I had the right calculations. You know, as far as the weight that branch could handle. We were only trying to construct an obstacle course like the one dad and the other warriors use at the training grounds. No one got hurt. Well, unless you’re talking about the branch.”
“Well, I am happy at the fact that no one got hurt but my yard isn’t quite built to create a training course fellas.” Janet says, shaking her head.
“Hey pups. Why don’t you boys go to the pack park down the street? There’s tons of playground equipment that is made to SAFELY train younger ones. That way you boys won't destroy Aunt Jan and Uncle Kade’s yard,” I suggested.
“That’s a great idea mom!” Alex exclaimed. “Jon and Jack said they were going to be there today and I love training with their dad.”
“Oh no, Gamma Wilson will be there? He’s tough.” Jacob whines.
“Oh come on Jacob, you need to get in shape anyway. You’re supposed to be my twin but you need work to be as strong and fast as me,” Kevin says as the boys head towards the playground.
“ Lexi, looking at the group, you would think Alex is the oldest because of how much taller he is than the rest. Look at how he towers over Izac and Izac is a whole year older,” Bria states.
“Well, what do you expect, Bria? His donor was of Alpha blood.” Janet points out.
“Ugh, let's not talk about that guy. Now I definitely need more wine,” I said, walking back into the house.
“Seriously Lexi. What is keeping you from picking a chosen mate? Are you looking for another Alpha?” Bria inquires.
“I’m not looking for anything,” I replied.
“Why not? I’ve seen how male wolves are attracted to you. What happened that you don’t want to date? I mean besides the situation with his dad.” Bria presses on.
“We have time and we have wine, Lexi. I think she may need to know some of your tragic dating history to understand why you’re so hesitant.” Janet suggests.
“Okay, well, since we have wine and the movie is over, I guess I can tell you some before the boys come back.” I reluctantly agree.
