The Pretend Girlfriend Proposal

745 Words
Luke Oliver Thompson didn't explain, "Do you think what happened that night can just be forgotten?" Lily Sophia Turner's mind raced, "Mr. Thompson, what exactly do you want?" "I need a girlfriend." "Next month, my mother and the rest of my family are coming back from overseas." Lily finally understood, "You want me to pretend to be your girlfriend?" Luke didn't reply, but a faint smile appeared on his lips. Lily's face grew paler as she stared at him. The office curtains weren't fully open, and a few beams of light streamed in. Against the light, she couldn't see his features clearly, but his eyes, calm yet dazzling, shone like a lighthouse in the city at night. "No, I can't. That night was an accident, let's just forget it..." She averted her gaze, resisting the temptation he offered. Being his girlfriend was something she desperately wanted, but she couldn't bring herself to agree. Outside, tiny spots of light filled half the room, shimmering like a mirage. At that moment, there were two knocks on the door. "Come in..." A middle-aged woman opened the door, "Mr. Thompson, Sara is here." Luke glanced at his watch, "Make her a cup of coffee and tell her I'll be there shortly." "Okay." The office returned to silence. The only person who could be called "Sara" in the company was Sara, their top manager. Sara and Luke had a close relationship, with rumors online speculating that Sara's boyfriend was actually Luke. Sara's success today was inseparable from the Thompson family. Luke's deep, gentle voice broke the silence again. Lily, lost in thought, lowered her eyes and said, "I'm sorry, I don't want to." Luke looked at her face and patiently asked, "Why?" Lily felt a pang of disappointment. Although such a situation was disadvantageous for a woman, she didn't want to be forced. "You're much older than me." Six years... it was too much... Even the best debater like Luke was at a loss for words with Lily. He sighed softly, "Then what do you want?" Lily clenched her hands, shook her head, and earnestly said, "I just want to focus on my work right now." Focus on work, that was a good reason. As her boss, he couldn't undermine her work enthusiasm. "If you need anything, you can call my cell." His voice remained steady as he handed her a card with his private number on it. Lily took it, glanced at the card, and saw: Luke Oliver Thompson... Handwritten in neat cursive. It didn't look like a business card, and Lily put the card in her bag. Luke's dark eyes watched her. Seeing her resolute expression, he suddenly laughed. It turned out he had no charm in her eyes. "Lily, we can start as friends." Lily responded with an "Oh." As she left his office, her legs felt weak, and she leaned against the wall to keep from collapsing. She had just rejected Luke Thompson. She actually turned down Luke Thompson. She had given up a vast forest. But even after their conversation, she still hadn't addressed the main issue. For example, what to do about the little seed growing inside her? That evening, Lily returned to school. After a simple dinner at the cafeteria, she went back to her dorm. The eldest and the fourth roommates had already gone back home, and the second was still pursuing a graduate degree at the same school and hadn't left yet. "Hey, Lily, you're back! The department sent a notice that we need to move out by this weekend. Have you found a place to stay?" "Yes, I'll be moving this weekend." "Where are you staying?" "Near the City A train line 2." "What's wrong? You look unwell, like you've got heatstroke." Lily Sophia Turner patted her face, "It's just the heat." She took a signed photo out of her bag, "Here, it's your idol's." "Oh my gosh, thank you so much!" Esther hugged her excitedly and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek, "Daniel is so handsome. Did you get to interact with him on set?" "He treated us to cold drinks. He's really nice." Lily didn't mention how close he had gotten with the leading actress over the past month. "Being a celebrity assistant has its perks. You get to meet your favorite stars." Lily smiled. "Oh, by the way, Lily, Elvira is getting married at the beginning of July. She sent us all invitations." "Getting married?"
