Chapter 6

1384 Words
Jaylyn’s POV As we crossed their border I couldn’t help but stare in awe at the outer lands. They were massive with plains stretching as far as the eye can see. The luscious green grass was beautiful and I wanted nothing more than to run through it in wolf form. The plains then turned into trees as the forest grew bigger around us. There were an assortment of fruit trees but they were not harvested. I wonder why. As we went closer into the pack my heart began to race for a reason I could not comprehend. As we broke through the tree line my heart broke upon seeing the sight before me. The members houses were broken down, some were even crumbled. They looked weak and starved despite have an abundance of food surrounding the area. There was a gray atmosphere hovering above them. They looked as if they didn’t care to live or die. Tears welled up in my eyes. What kind of Alpha would allow their pack members to look like this? This was sickening and heart wrenching. The only place that looked well kept was the pack house where we would be staying. I felt horrible knowing that that was how they were living while I was a guest that got to reside lavishly. One of them members greeted us when the car came to a stop. She offered to show us to our rooms. We followed her inside and was greeted by Alpha Anthony at the base of the stairs. A frail woman trailing behind him with various bruises that look like they had not healed yet. The ones along her neck looked fresh. “Welcome to my pack Alpha Drake.” Alpha Anthony said unenthusiastically. He didn’t see to want us there but greeted us as he was required. He was a tall man which I’d estimate about 6’2. He had dark black hair with pale green eyes which showed little no emotion. His shoulders were broad and his posture straight as he stood before us. The she-wolf next to him looked as though she wanted to scream for help but kept her face stoic in his presence. She looked starved with her light brown hair covering most of her face. When she managed to glance in our direction, I noticed her eyes were a pale blue with pain hidden behind them. Her skin was enough evidence that she had been abused but it wasn’t our pack to question it. It pained me to not be able to help her but father told me that we must turn a blind eye. “Happy to be here.” Father lied. He had felt the nonchalant attitude of alpha Anthony’s welcome. “I assume these are your spawns?” He looked at both me and Jase as if we were the dirt on his feet. Clear disgust showing on his features. “Children. They are my children Alpha Anthony.” Father replied through clenched teeth. He look at father unfazed as he call his pack member to show us our rooms. “Pup!” “Yes alpha!” The same she wolf appeared again. “Show them to their rooms and escort them out of my sight.” “Yes Alpha.” I had to hold back a growl from the clear disrespect this man was showing us. I looked to the side and saw that both Jason and dad were having similar battles with their wolves. The she wolf then asked if we would follow her quietly as she led us to the second floor of this poorly designed pack house. Distracted by the alpha’s presence I hadn’t noticed before hand. Everything was white. It was clean without a spect out of place. I assumed their Luna likes it that way. As we continued on the way to our room, my nose picked up the most mouth watering scent that made me want to drool. It smelled of pine and fresh rain and I wanted nothing more to follow my nose. I knew better than to wander the grounds of this pack. The smell would have to wait until tomorrow to be discovered. My wolf was strangely quiet during the assault on my nasal cavity but I’ll have to question her later. “ This is your room for the time being. Dinner will be served in your rooms at 7pm. If there is nothing else that is needed I will take my leave now.” The she-wolf stated. “We won’t be needing anything else, thank you.” Father replied. With that she turned and left us in this hospital inspired room. Just like the rest of the pack house, this room was all white. White ceilings, white walls, white bedsheets, even the doorknobs were white. Whoever designed this place must have favored a mental institution. There were three single beds in the room which indicated that it must have been kept for visitors. We entered the room and got settled, grateful that we didn’t have to leave until it was time for the ceremony tomorrow. My mind drifted to scent that lingered in my mind and I wanted nothing more than to be enveloped by such an aroma. Azrael’s POV As I walked towards the pack house, I could see the cars of the visitors that were arriving. I was in no mood to greet them so I had simply walked pass. When I reached the foyer the strangest smell assaulted my nostrils causing them to flair trying to locate the source. The smell of warm honey and vanilla made my wolf purr in excitement. This caught me off guard, my wolf doesn’t purr. “What the f*ck is wrong with you?” “I have warned you many times before PUP! Watch your f*cking tone when you are speaking to me and as for your question, it’s none of your business.” “You’re the one acting like some kind of love sick puppy after smelling one simple aroma. I can’t have these visitors seeing me as weak because you can’t control the sounds escaping your throat.” “YOU ARE WEAK! I am the strength as I am the wolf counter part. You would be nothing but a mere human without me!!” With those last few words he blocked me from continuing this conversation. His behavior and attitude had gotten worse over the last few days and I was not in the mood to deal with it. I head up the stairs as father informed me that dinner would be served in my room tonight. He apparently did not want to mingle with the guests and I had no issues with the thought. I continued up the stairs as the scent hit my nose again. Before I realized it, I was heading towards the third floor where the visitors were staying. I paused as the scent was much stronger and I began to trek forward. I stopped myself mid way and forced my feet in another direction. I did not care for formalities but I wasn’t going to barge in when I knew other alphas would be on this floor. I would be out numbered if a conflict arose so I decided against it. I made my way further up the stairs to my room as the scent which assaulted my nostrils lingered in my mind. I would find the source of the smell and track it down. I don’t understand why I felt so compelled to find such a trivial thing but it was as if my body demanded that we find it. These thoughts infiltrated my mind until it was time for dinner. I ate what was served and began to drift off afterwards. The sweet smell of warm honey on a summer day mixed with a hint of vanilla. I small growl escaped my throat which brought me back to my senses. I had never once in my entire 21 years displayed my interests to anyone, not even father. Yet here I was, day dreaming about what honey would smell like on a hot day. I felt repulsed at the thought of me thinking about such a thing. I would find whatever the smell came from and would deal with it accordingly.
