846 Words
The Faded Ghost Tavern was a watering hole located in the heart of Ravenstone the exterior of this establishment was as just as worn down as the interior. The brick work was worn and weathered with numerous cracks running through the walls like veins. The windows were barred with with rusty metal grates and the glass was so dirty you could barely see inside. Outside remains the evidence of the numerous brawls and battles that had taken place over the years, numerous broken beer bottles and shards of glass decorated the cobbled pavements. They remain the remnants of bloodshed, debauchery and various unsavoury acts by the folk of the city. The Welcoming Neon Sign that hung from the entrance was on it’s last legs it flickered and buzzed casting a sickly green light on the street below. The letters that spelled out the name of the tavern were dimly lit and barely visible adding to the eerie atmosphere of the place. Despite it’s rundown appearance the Faded Ghost Tavern was always bustling and a hive of activity. The Sound of laughter and debauchery echoed all around and the chorus of song and music filled the air. Enticed by the promise of cheap drinks and a good time the locals kept the place busy. The exterior of the tavern may have been rough around the edges but it was a beacon for those seeking excitement and adventure in their lives. It was the perfect place to go to forget about your troubles for a while or if you were looking for information or access to services of the various rouges, villains and characters that dwell in Ravenstone. As soon as you step inside this fine establishment you are hit with a deep fog of smoke the aroma of stale tobacco and alcohol permeating the air. The interior was rustic and homely cobwebs and dust decorated the walls and the dingy lighting added to the mysterious ambience. The Bar was the main vocal point and bottles of vibrant red liquid lined the shelves behind the bar the floor was sticky and covered in residue from spilt drinks. Showcased on the walls were various strange trinkets and mementos of Vlad’s adventures. Vlad was the owner of the Faded Ghost Tavern and he also was a vampire. Vlad was a tall and slender vampire with jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes, He was dressed in a smart Victorian style suit and his long fangs gleamed in the dim light of the tavern. For Vlad despite the condition of the tavern being dressed immaculately gave him a sense of importance. After all serving the residents of Ravenstone with booze was a significant task. Vlad was a figurehead for he locals and well-liked by them. Vlad gazed at the mementos on the wall and gave out a big sigh, “ Just another day In ze tavern, I wish something exciting would happen it has been so long since I have been on a adventure “ He opened the till and proceeded to count up last nights takings he pulled out a handful of gem vouchers which was the currency of Ravenstone. Vlad proceeded to count out loud “ ten, twenty, thirty, forty, not bad not could better not to shabby “ He put the bundle of vouchers into a small cloth sack and stored them away in a cleverly disguised safe which was hidden behind a family portrait displayed on the wall directly behind the counter of the bar. Suddenly The Kitchen door flew open and crashed against the wall causing Vlad to jump with fright. Standing in front of him was what can only be described as a colossus of a person with hulking muscles popping out of an apron. Brutus the troll was the Cook extraordinaire at the Faded Ghost Tavern or in layman’s terms a chef a culinary genius who severed the regulars with the following dishes. Stone Soup – A hearty soup made with root vegetables, mystical spices and seasoned with a generous helping of Pebbles. Brutus swears by them for adding additional crunch to the dish. Ogre Omelette - A massive omelette not for the feint hearted a creation by Brutus mainly because he is the only one capable of flipping such as a dish. Many others have tried to replicate but have ended up with torn biceps and tendons. And of course we cannot forget the Ravenstone Roast – A feast of the finest meats the Kingdom of Bloodhaven can offer. He serves it with mashed potatoes’ and a side of Thick Gravy that resembles treacle. Brutus adjusted chefs hat and cleared throat causing the bar stools to levitate and the various rows of bottles in the bar area to rattle. “ Boss We had a issue! Da Extractor fan is not working in da kitchen I tried hitting it a few times but the ruddy thing it’s still not working. “ Vlad sighed “ Well Brutus that hardly surprises me….. That is like the equivalent of a sledgehammer hitting a balloon… my dear friend “
