Chapter 1
~Liliana . Standing on my ten toes, I examined the hall cautiously but rapidly in search of Oscar, or rather, Alpha Oscar. It was his birthday and coronation today, and the hall was already packed with renowned guests from our pack and beyond, but I hadn't seen the celebrant, so I left the hall and made my way to his room, chuckling gently. He informed me the day before that he was concerned about his coronation, about becoming King, and I did everything I could to reassure him that everything would be alright. Oscar, my boyfriend, was a king and a leader, and I had no doubt that with me as his wife and Luna by his side, he would lead our pack to victory. I had been heartbroken and in misery since Oscar and I realised not long ago that I was not his mate, but my sorrows were quickly forgotten when Oscar proposed to me three days ago. 'I love you, Liliana, and I don't give a damn what the moon goddess says about you not being my mate because I chose you, Liliana. 'I want you at my side constantly and forever,' he said perfectly. Oscar was the sweetest man imaginable, and I adored him as well. I bit my top lip to keep my grin from expanding. As I approached his room, I halted to completely identify the sounds I heard coming from it. The sound was familiar, but unusual because it was the last thing I expected to hear today, especially from my boyfriend's room. I padded my feet closer to the door, my eyes narrowing, and a noise that sounded like a breathless moan filled my ears. I didn't need a fortune teller to tell me that the moan came from Oscar because I knew what he sounded like. "Sure, baby! Yes!" I could hear him scream. I felt the blood drain from my face as I halted in front of his door, my hand around the doorknob. Oscar was certainly in the room with another lady, his moans and screams were ample confirmation, but I needed to witness it for myself, to be sure I wasn't making a fatal mistake. I knew Oscar would never cheat on me, so I needed to be sure he was the one inside the room. I took a big breath and turned the doorknob, pushing the door open, and saw him thrusting in and out of a recognisable face. My heart fell to my gut as my eyesight blurred and the blood on my face reddened. I was queasy, and the meal I had that morning swirled violently in my mouth, threatening to escape. I placed my fingers against my temples and expanded my eyes to be sure they weren't tricking me, but they weren't! My boyfriend, Oscar, was in bed with Nadia, my sister, my elder sister, who was the mother I never had. Who was a big fan of my friendship with Oscar. I wanted to escape, everything in me screamed me to turn and run away without looking back, but I stood there, watching as she arched her back, dug her nails into Oscar's back and groaned into his ear, and Oscar grinned contentedly before plastering kisses all over her body. "The moon goddess has made me the proudest man in the entire world," he kissed her forehead, "I am the luckiest man in the entire world," he kissed her lips, "he gave you to me," he kissed her shoulder and she chuckled, "she gave you to me as my Luna and my mate," he kissed her shoulder and she chuckled, "she gave you to me as my Luna and my mate." I scoffed loudly and chuckled in astonishment as I pulled the door open, the creaking of the hinges and my giggles distracting them. "Did you require anything, Liliana?"" Nadia queried mockingly as Oscar yanked out of her with a groan and fell to the bed. " Liliana," she called in a hushed tone, as she sluggishly grabbed the duvet to cover her exposed chest, but Oscar did little to cover himself. He had no shame? He muttered something into Nadia's ears that made her smile and smack his chest before turning to me and I saw it; the emptiness in his eyes. The deep blue eyes I remembered were suddenly emotionless, with not even a glimmer of sorrow in them. Tears welled up in my eyes as I replayed what he had spoken to me three days before. 'Liliana, I adore you.' 'I've decided on you, Liliana.' 'I need you.' 'Always and forever,' he said. Did he not mean any of those words? I watched them both watch me stand in front of them like I was some kind of comedy performance, brushing my tears away as I shook my head in response to Nadia's query. "No, I just came to inform Oscar that his guests are waiting." "Information obtained, now begone," Nadia replied with a big smile as Oscar quietly chuckled. "Liliana," Oscar said as he sat up in bed, "we didn't plan for you to find out like this." We were going to make an announcement today after my coronation, but I guess we got carried away by the enthusiasm." He turned to face Nadia with a big smile. That was the Adonis smile he flashed at me! He and I used the word 'we' instead of Nadia. "Do you even hear yourself?" I sniffled back, blinking to keep the tears from falling down my cheeks."I attempted to respond in a casual tone, but my emotions took over, causing my voice to come out in a whisper, "you want to reveal to the pack that you are cheating on me with my sister." Nadia burst out laughing. "What? "No," he scoffed, pulling the duvet end to cover himself, "I was going to announce Nadia as my mate and Luna," he cupped Nadia's face, "the moon goddess has shown me mercy and has given me a goddess like herself as a mate." "But...but...but you...you said you didn't care," I mumbled. "Please, Liliana, I am the incoming Alpha of this pack, how can I not be concerned?" "I decided to go with you because I thought it was a lost cause for me to find a mate, but now that I have Nadia," he said with a grin. He has no choice but to dismiss me now that he has Nadia, and in an embarrassing manner. Oscar lied to me; he only proposed to me because he didn't have anyone else to propose to; he didn't even love me. "You said you loved me," I was fighting back tears, and I knew they were winning. "I do care a lot about you, Liliana." He no longer loves, but he now cares. "You stated that you are unconcerned about the mate bond, Oscar." He moaned and pushed himself off the bed, reaching for his boxers and quickly wrapping them around his waist before stepping in front of me. "Tell me you meant everything you said to me, Oscar, tell me you're not leaving me for anyone, Oscar." "Look at me and tell me you love me." I couldn't believe I was pleading, pleading for the man I love, the man who used to love me, to love me again. "Enough, Liliana, just stop it," he sighed as he rubbed his nose. "It's past time you accepted this," he said, standing akimbo. "I was hurt to hear you weren't my mate. For the sake of the goddess, I am the Alpha of this pack, and I required a mate. Because of you, I had to repress my desire to have a partner in order to keep you happy, and now that I have one, why can't you allow me be happy with her?" "How about us?"" "Make peace with the fact that I am now with Nadia." Nadia is my mate, and Luna and I adore her, and no matter what, I will always pick her." I felt the fire in his eyes. When he looked at me, his eyes were emotionless, but as he spoke about her, I saw the fire of blazing desire in his eyes. My tears had won the struggle, and I allowed them to fall down my cheeks. The two people I cared about the most in the world had betrayed me, and they weren't making things easy for me. I switched my gaze to look at my sister, who was smiling back at me. She held her head in her hand, which was supported by her elbow, making a hole in the bed. I shifted my sight away from Nadia and back to Oscar, only to notice that the fire in his eyes had faded and been replaced with wrath. He was enraged, as was I. To stop myself from yelling, I pressed my palm on my mouth. He couldn't do it, could he? He had no reason to be upset. I was the one who was injured, the one who had been betrayed, and the one who should have been angry. "Oscar," I exclaimed in surprise. "All right, show time is over," Nadia murmured, sitting up on the bed. "Oscar, love, I don't want her here any longer; please send her away." "I'm going out the door now, Liliana."
