Phase I: Finding Out The Truth Of The Past; I

1206 Words
Phase I; I My boring eyes swept past the room for the umpteenth time and my fingers got urgent as I rapped them against the wooden desk with impatience. The normal high school buzz was passing by in a blur; the noisy students, the screeching of chairs and tables and the flirting going on like it was a formal speech. Sounds like a normal day in Highland High School. Class started about twenty minutes ago but no teacher has stepped into our class and the entire class was ecstatic about it. I, on the other hand, was bored, tired and also worried about the sudden disappearance of our teacher. Miss Helena, our history teacher was supposed to be in class ages ago but she was nowhere to be found. She wasn't someone who would go AWOL so suddenly and I was anxious to know what happened to her. I felt an arm on my shoulder and I looked up with surprise. "What's up, Nika?" My best friend, Dylan O'Neill, ruffled my hair fondly. "I'm fine, D" I shrugged with a small smile. "Why are you so moody today? Not like you are not always moody just that you're extra moody today" He sat on his seat next to me. "The teacher hasn't arrived yet and I'm bored as hell" I slumped into my chair with a huff. "The entire class is jumping with happiness and you're bored?! Nika will always be Nika. Weird and Odd" He shook his head and a few black strands fell into his view. Dylan's hair jas always been a wild mess. No matter how many times he combed it or applied gel, it won't stay in one place. "A nicer word would be, different. Too bad you're a sadist", I rolled my dark brown eyes at him. "Join the club, it's fun," he said sarcastically. "I'm gonna pass, D" Dylan O'Neill has been my best friend since we moved to Highland View two years ago. Moving from a place I called home to another city or state more times than I can count has made me a little introverted than I usually was. And so, making friends when I entered a new school was always a difficult task for me. But Dylan had been friendly and kind to me since I mistakenly used his locker instead of mine on the first day of school. He had been my best buddy, confidant, and a perky jock. All of a sudden, the entire class coordinated themselves and they sat on their designated seats. I looked up at the door to see the Senior High School Coordinator entering the class with a pretty, young lady behind her. The lady whom I haven't seen before had shiny blonde hair which was let loose in curly waves. Her hourglass figure was underneath a skin-tight red dress which made a few boys whistle lowly as she entered. "Hello, students," The Coordinator, Mrs. Stockholm greeted and we returned her greeting with a murmur. "I apologize for the slight delay in your class. Miss Helena had something urgent to attend to but rest assured because Miss Kerlem would be your substitute for today" she gestured to the lady behind her. The class sighed in annoyance while I smiled, happy that class was about to start. "Good morning, class. I'm Lucia Kerlem and I will be taking History for today. Nice to meet you all" Miss Kerlem said with a bright smile. She was talking to everyone but her green eyes were fixated on something. Or rather, someone. I looked to see if there was something behind me and when I turned back, her eyes were still on me with an undetectable expression. I frowned at the oddity of her stare and just shrugged it off. The class started and soon, everyone concentrated on the detailed history of the Great Wall of China. The way she explained it was so detailed that one would think she had actually been there when it was being built. The whole class leaned forward as she started her story and it was like she was telling us a bedtime story instead of teaching us. Everyone was so engrossed in the class that when the bell rang, we all groaned in disapproval. I gathered my books in my hand and stepped out of the classroom with Dylan. "Miss Kerlem is awesome. She is like the best History teacher ever!" exclaimed Dylan as we walked to my locker. "I know right, my notes are full from her class. I have a lot of research to do," I replied. "That was the first time I didn't sleep in a class" "Or really? Be honest, were you really listening to the lecture, or were you staring at her ass the whole time?" I questioned with a smirk. "Well..." He trailed off with a sly smile. "Dylan!!" I yelled and a few heads turned to look at me. "What?! It was a bit of both but you've gotta be honest, her ass is mad hot!" He grinned. "You're disgusting," I rolled my eyes and opened my locker to get my books for the next class. "And you're jealous I never paid attention to your ass as much as I did with hers" He snickered. "What?! Eww!! Grossest thing ever!" I glared at him. He dropped his eyes from to my face and focused on my behind. "Well, thinking about it, it does seem o-" "Dylan O'Neill!!" I screeched and threw a book at him as he ran off with a chuckle. "See you later, sweet cheeks!" He called and ran down the hall as girls swooned over his godly looks. Yeah, he's one fine piece of meat but I would admit that to him. He's already too cocky for his brain cells to handle. I locked my locker and picked up the book I threw from the floor as I walked to my next class which was Geography. I greet a few familiar faces with a kind smile as I walked to the next building. I'm not one to keep thousands of friends because I'm very conservative, contrary to my look. But being in this school for more than two years now, I feel comfortable with keeping a few friendly acquaintances. Just that Dylan is the only one I let into my private life. I trust like family with my deepest secrets. I have lost so many friends over the years that now, I'm just not eager to keep too many people around me. When I know, one day, I'm going to leave and it would be as though I was never there. It was easy for them to forget and erase me from their life and after receiving series of heartbreaks and trauma, I stopped being open. I shut myself out so when it's time to leave, it won't hurt as much. Now, I'm just worried if I have gotten too attached to Dylan. I hope I won't have to say goodbye to my one true friend. As these thoughts crossed my mind, I hit an object and fall from the collision. My books tousled all over the floor. I sighed and looked up to see her...
