Phase I; IX

I; IX "Will you be fine alone?" Aunt asked for the umpteenth time. "Yes, I will. Just go already" I rolled my eyes. "Stop being like that, you know I'm just worried about you," she said. TOO worried! "I know" I sighed. "I love you, Andronika" she hugged me. "Love you too," I melted into her embrace. Her hug had always and will always be like a drug to me. It calmed me down and made me feel better instantly. "Now, you should get going before you're late for your meeting" we pulled apart. "Okay, I'll be back before dinner so wait for me so we can cook together," she said. "Sure," She grabbed her keys and opened the door. "Bye, honey" she smiled and stepped out of the house. "Bye," I waved and closed the door behind her. I heard her car pull out of the driveway as I locked the door. I walked down to the living room where my books were sprawled out on the table. I sat down on the sofa and crossed my legs on the table. I took my phone from the table and checked for any messages from Dylan but there was none. On a norm, my phone should have pinging with silly memes or videos from him. I sent him a message. Hey. I sighed and locked my phone and dropped it beside me on the couch. Looks like I'm all alone. 'I'm here!' I jolted up at her sudden voice. "God! You scared the s**t out of me!" I hissed. 'Sorry' she snickered. I remembered what I had in my locket and I quickly took it off. I looked down the locket in my hands with slight fear and excitement. But I felt curious more than anything. "Can I open it?" I asked. 'Be my guest' I used my fingers to open it up and the jewel was sitting right in front of my eyes. I took it out and held it in my hands. The bright Sapphire color was nearly shining and blindly my eyes. Its beauty drew me in the more I stared at it and it was like, it was pulling me in. I couldn't describe the feeling but I felt connected to it. It was like, I could feel it. Almost one with it. "What is this?" I asked. 'This is the secret your Aunt had kept from you all these years' "W-what do you mean?" I frowned. 'What did it say it was in the stand?' She asked. "Uh, something about a treasure from a lost fantasy world? Af-" I squeezed my eyes and tried to remember the name. 'Afthonia' she answered for me. "Yeah, Afthonia. But I don't get it, how is this what aunt didn't want me to know about? I mean, how does it connect to us and our family?" I asked. 'The answer lies below,' she said. I frowned. "Okay, I know you're crazy, you don't need to convince me" I snorted. 'I'm not crazy!' She snapped. That's what they all say. "Then what do you mean by below? Am I supposed to dig the earth to find a lost treasure box?!" I raised my eyebrow. 'Of course not, I meant the basement' she said. "You really have to be dramatic, don't you?" I rolled my eyes. "But we don't have a basement" I frowned. 'Or so you were told?' "What? Are you saying we have a basement?" 'Yes, you do, my dear' "But where? How come I have never seen it and why did Aunt never tell me about it?" I asked. 'Why don't you find out yourself?' She said. 'Go open the closet at the hall,' I stood up and went down the hall and stopped before the closet. This was where we kept all our brooms, mops, and some other things for cleaning the house. I opened the door and everything was as normal as I remembered it. 'Now, walk down to the wall opposite you' she said. I walked in and stopped right before the wall. "What next?" I asked. 'Raise the carpet and you'll see a lock' Aleka said. I bent down and raised the rug a little and I saw a small lock there but it wasn't locked. Oh, my. I opened it and pulled the cover up. I saw stairs that led downstairs. "Oh, my God. I just got goosebumps" I gaped. Where on earth did this come from? 'Go in' she urged. "Is it safe?" I was skeptical. For all I knew, there could be demons or even monsters down there. 'Yes, just go in' I put one foot down the stairs and it made a loud creak. I moved down slowly and it was only when I reached the bottom that I saw what was truly inside the dark basement. Holy, moly!
