Cassie moved toward city hall with slow, measured steps. It was a pace she had mastered over the years. She would become so focused on what she was thinking that she would sometimes run into things or trip if she moved fast. Her mind was whirling as she thought about Laura’s murder and what evidence they had so far. Silver nitrate, Wolfsbane, and a letter opener were used to kill Laura. There was still no motive or suspect in the case, and what Cassie had learned from Miss Maggie added more questions than answers to the investigation.
Cassie let out a sigh as she pulled open the door to city hall and went in, going straight to Malekai’s office. She shut the door behind her and moved around his office, closing the blinds. Malekai watched her from his desk with a raised eyebrow.
