Dante's struggle

Dante's POV

Well, I decided if I was going with Halen shopping for new clothes I would take her somewhere special. I took her to a shop in the city owned by a family friend. The store is "Especially for you." They cater to your style, taste, preferences. Some clothes need to be shipped in, but it's worth the wait. I get all my clothes from here. So when we walk in, Halen looks around in awe at the different styles and designs. It is colorful and vibrant. She smiles at me and walks off, looking at the first rack she comes to.

We wind up being in the shop for a couple of hours, and I'm tired. I ask Halen if she is ready to go, and she says yes. She is leaving with about 100 outfits and ordered another 30. She has great taste, and I only had to decline a few outfits for being too revealing. She just laughed or huffed at me, depending on the outfit. There was one she really liked, but it showed too much skin. I bought it for her anyway but I'm going to give it to her as a surprise. I look over at her and ask her if she's hungry, and she responds ,"I'm starving." I decide on a nice restaurant, and we head that way.

When we arrive at the restaurant I notice there are a lot of tables filled up already. We go to the host and ask for a secluded table and get taken to one in the corner so I can see everywhere. Halen sits down, and I notice how stiff her body is. I asked her," What's wrong?, Do you not like the restaurant? We can go somewhere else." Halen looks up at my eyes, and I see worry. She mumbles something I can't understand. I asked her to repeat it. She says,"The leader of the rogues that chased me are over there at the table by the window." I look over to where she said they were and notice them looking over at us. I asked her if she wanted to leave, and she said no. I will keep an eye on them.

As we are eating our dinner, I notice out the corner of my eye that the leader gets up to come over to our table. He walks over to Halen and asks her," Did you think if you changed how you look, we wouldn't know who you are? I told you that we would find you." She is shaking and scoots closer to me. I put my arm around her and say to the guy, "If you haven't noticed, we are trying to enjoy our meal. Who are you, and why are you talking to my mate and threatening her? " The leader looks at me then at Halen and smiles. I growl, and he looks at me again. He then says,"My apologies, I have been mistaken in my knowledge of who your mate is. I will be leaving, and so will my fellow wolves. Good night."

Halen visibly relaxes, and I grab her hand and ask her to look at me. She looks up through her lashes and says quietly," I'm sorry, I knew they would find me eventually. I have brought this to your doorstep. They won't stop until they get me back. They will punish me, and I will most likely be dead when they are done." I growl and hit the table, which makes Halen jump. I got her attention again, and I say very slowly, so she doesn't miss a word, "You are mine, and nobody touches what's mine. Do you hear what I'm saying? They will never touch you again." Halen looks at me and shakes her head, and I grab her by the back of her neck, put our foreheads together, and repeat softly,"No one will touch you again."

We get up to leave after paying the bill, and the host stops me and tells me he heard those guys talking about jumping us in the parking lot so they can take Halen. I immediately mind link Michael, who answers, " Yeah, you called?" As I explain everything to him, I hear him growl, and he tells me," I already mind linked the rest of the guys, and we'll be there in 10 minutes. Wait for us." I tell Halen the pack is on the way to meet us outside, and she pales. I reassure her everything will be fine. We wait the 10 minutes inside, then head out to the car and see the rogues beside our car. I ask," What do you want? I thought this conversation was taken care of inside." The leader laughs and says,"Boys, attack. Grab Halen."

It all happened so fast. My pack members showed up just as two of the rogues were getting ready to pounce on me at once. Which I could handle, but I wouldn't be able to protect Halen. So, my pack members gather the rest of the rogues into a small area and keep them there. I then tell Michael to grab Halen and take her to his car. I dispose of the two rogues that are surrounding me and go to get Halen. I tell the guys to take the rogues to the warehouse where I can question them. I take Halen home and get her calmed down and tell her I'll be back soon. She nods and walks to the bed and lays down.

I go to the warehouse, and Michael and some of the pack members are there. Inside, there are the rogues and their leader. I go to the leader first and ask,"Why are you here trying to take my mate?" He looks up at me and says,"She is evil. She needs to be punished. I need to take her to our pack and finish what we started. You don't understand how different she is from us." I listened to her what he had to say, and then I looked at him and said," What do you mean she's evil? and I'd be careful what you say because she is my mate." Michael snickers, and the leader looks his way. Michael steps closer, looks down at the leader, and says,"You better answer the question because she is the only reason you're still breathing." The leader looks around and says," She has abilities that make her disappear, that is unnatural. She is a witch. There is no way we can let her live."

At that moment, my wolf decided to show how much he didn't appreciate that sentence. Next thing I know, I'm back in my chair, and the leader is dead. The other rogues are looking at each wondering how in the world that happened so fast. Then, realization occurs, and their faces look fearful. They start pleading with the leader of the pack, the Alpha. Already sentenced to death but not realizing it yet. Alpha Dante looks at Michael and nods. Dante leaves them to finish the job and goes to clean up so he can check on Halen. He can't wait to tell her he took care of the rogues.

Dante is clean and checks on Halen. He runs s his fi her down her cheek and promises her in the dark that she will always be free and safe from harm. She is his Luna. Beautiful and gifted. They will explore how gifted she is and see if she can help with the packs' defenses. He wants her to feel like she is a true asset to the pack and can help wherever she can. The pack will love her as their Luna. I will ask her officially tomorrow. I'll let her rest for tonight.
