Prologue: Cracks in the Ice
The rhythmic click of stilettos against polished granite echoed through the dead silence of the top floor.
Inside the massive glass-walled office of Blackwood Tower, with a 360-degree view of the sprawling Bangkok skyline, sat Adrian Blackwood.
At forty years old, the billionaire CEO was an imposing figure. He sat rigidly behind his thick mahogany desk, broad shoulders perfectly tailored into a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit. It was a testament to his ruthless demand for order.
His piercing, authoritative eyes scanned the resume in his hands.
Serena Vale... First-class honors. Campus Queen. National marketing champion.
Knock, knock.
"Excuse me, Mr. Blackwood. Ms. Serena Vale, the applicant for the Marketing Strategist position, is here."
"Send her in." His voice was a low, glacial rumble. He didn't even bother to look up.
The heavy oak doors parted, and Serena Vale stepped in.
She moved with an unshakeable, elegant grace. There was no hesitation, no nervous fumbling. She was every bit the fierce, confident rising star her resume claimed she was.
She wore a soft cream silk blouse, the top buttons undone just enough to tease her delicate collarbone and flawless skin. It was perfectly calculated—professional, yet so dangerously alluring it was hard to look away.
Her black pencil skirt clung to her curves, highlighting the sinful flare of her hips and her long, slender legs.
Adrian finally dropped the file. Slowly, he looked up.
His predatory gaze started at the tips of her glossy black heels, traveling up her sleek calves, the curve of her hips, her narrow waist, and stopping at the inviting V of her silk shirt.
Finally, his gaze collided with hers. She didn't flinch.
An electric, palpable heat instantly surged through the icy, air-conditioned room.
"Good morning, Mr. Blackwood. I am Serena Vale," she greeted. Her voice was honeyed but firm, a confident smirk playing on her full lips.
Adrian leaned back in his leather chair. On the outside, he was carved from ice. But inside? A sudden, unfamiliar heat bubbled up in his chest just from watching those plump, crimson-painted lips move.
"Ms. Vale," Adrian drawled, his tone deadpan, though his eyes remained locked on her.
"Your grades and portfolio are impressive. But at Blackwood, we don't need textbook thinkers... We need someone who can take the heat and control the game."
Serena’s smile deepened. Instead of backing down from his intimidating stare, she took a deliberate step closer to his desk.
The intoxicating scent of sweet vanilla laced with a dangerous hint of spice invaded the CEO's personal space.
"If it's 'controlling the game' or 'taking the heat' you're worried about, Mr. Blackwood, don't be," Serena purred softly.
Her bright eyes openly challenged him.
"Because I don't just play the game... I make it fun. And if my work isn't good enough, you can fire me any day you want."
A heavy silence swallowed the room.
Adrian studied the twenty-five-year-old woman standing before him like a predator evaluating a prized catch. She possessed a natural, effortless seduction. She was confident, fiercely intelligent, and far too bold.
She wasn't the type to kneel for anyone.
And that... triggered a dark, possessive instinct he hadn't felt in his entire forty years of life.
The fortress of ice he had spent decades building around his heart was already starting to c***k, and he didn't even realize it.
"You start Monday." Adrian slammed the file shut with a sharp thud. He locked his unyielding gaze with hers.
"And remember this... in here, I am the only one who controls the game."
"We'll see about that... Boss," Serena smirked.
She spun on her heel and strutted out of the room, leaving behind a hypnotic sway of her hips and a scent that refused to fade.
Adrian stared at the door long after she was gone. He clasped his hands on the desk, gripping them until his knuckles turned white.
Suddenly, the ruthless CEO couldn't seem to catch his breath.
This woman... was definitely going to throw his life into absolute chaos.
