A day has passed and I haven’t seen the alpha nor heard anyone speaking of him. Although I have been a change of clothes, I can’t let my guard down. Currently, we are taking dinner. No one has spoken to me and since I am good at disappearing and being small, I haven’t either.
What can I say really? I only require to be in the presence of the alpha.
We finish, clean our plates and go to sleep. All the women sleep together in one hall while the men sleep in another. It is only the alpha that has his room. Weird right?
In the middle of the night, something peculiar happens. Something I would have known if I hadn’t glued my mouth to my ass. I hear movements and then something shaking me. I mumble incoherently and go back to sleep.
“The alpha is here.” Someone speaks. I jolt up and sit upright. The light shines all over the hall.
“Who is she?” A handsome man, around twenty-five years old asks.
Everyone points at me. I rise my head high and jump to my feet. “She has the stamina.” They speak.
Yeah. I should have answered the women when they asked who I was. Perhaps, under those few seconds, a trust would have formed. And they would have told me something important; their leader is a new coronated alpha.
“Follow me.” The alpha speaks softly.
My heart beats slowly against my chest, the alpha doesn’t seem like a bad person. He will take me under his arms. Right?
We walk in the hallway till we reach a red-painted door. He opens the door for me and enters. There are naked women in here. My eyes widen. I turn around and he is already taking off his clothes.
What is happening, Jade?
“Darling. You are new, you must please me so I can hear what you have to say.” He purrs.
Can’t he ask who I am first?
“No.”
“Repeat.”
I boldly reply, “no.”
One thing I am grateful for is that while under White Moon Pack, no one ever tried to abuse me sexually. Yes, I endured pain; physically, emotionally, mentally, and never sexually. So, there is no way I am going to ‘please’ him just because I want a pack.
I push past him. He grabs my hand. Surprisingly, his grip isn’t painful. He leans into me and kisses my forehead. I shudder. He releases me and crosses his arms over his chest. His arms budge. I have to admit, he is hot.
“Darling, leave, and never come back.” He says to me calmly. As if we have known each other forever.
Wow. That was the shortest time ever.
**
If only dad had been alive, he would have told me what kind of that pack was. If he had told me, I would have known their ways. I am not blaming dad, but also a mom. If it wasn’t for her, I would have known every pack's beliefs and practices.
Nevertheless, I am glad for those little hours.
I am heading to another pack called Blue Mirror Pack. Its alpha is called Alpha Blue. I have had anything related to blue since dad’s death, but I have no choice. I recall dad speaking highly of him and I hope he will help me.
I avoid making eye contact with anyone along the way. Even though I have the hair of mom, anyone who remembers dad will recognize me. I am like him in so many ways.
I don’t want anyone to realize who I am. I am aware the possibility of other wolves knowing I left home is high. For what reasons is what I don’t know yet. I keep my head down and continue walking.
The sun is setting. The hue of the sky is so beautiful.
I arrive at the pack and meet the alpha at the gate. He looks like he has come from somewhere. The moment he sees me, a smile radiates down his face. Thank heavens he still remembers me.
He opens his hands out wide, and just like when I was young whenever he visited the pack or dad brought me here, I ignore I am twenty years old and run to his arms. He swirls us around and I can’t help but giggle.
There are so many ways to get help: Lie. Tell the truth. Or fight your way.
Before I decide which one to use, Alpha Blue says, “you have grown.”
I smile. He takes me into the packhouse, everyone stares at me with judgmental looks. ‘I am sorry for your loss.” The alpha says. I ignore the looks of everyone. Wolves sometimes are pathetic, it is not like I am here to snatch their alpha away.
I just need help.
Alpha Blue waves at everyone, I want to pull him and ask why when he came to dad’s funeral he never sought me. But I let it go. It is the least of my concern. Furthermore, he had lost his friend, and he had every reason not to recall the friend had a daughter. Right?
Anyways, there is no reason for me to guilt him.
We enter the packhouse and the alpha tells me, “Meet my daughters.” Three ladies walk to us, they hug their dad in turns and when they meet my eyes, they shake their heads. “Hell no.” They screech.
Alpha Blue narrows his eyes at them, “what?”
“Dad, no.” The eldest says.
Alpha Blue jokes, “I didn’t teach you that.”
“Dad, she is a monster. She killed her dad and tried to kill her mother. If it wasn’t for Beta Sawyer, Alpha Debra would no longer be with us.”
Oh, mom. Congratulations.
Juniper laughs, telling me my mother has lost it. The lady in front of us too. From where they stand, do they see a warrior? I am all bones for fucksake. They can see it and yet they believe I tried to kill mom?
Juniper continues her complaints.
Alpha Blue reprimands his daughters. They finally accept and take me to one of the guest rooms. They leave me there hanging high and dry. I shower and after I dress, the youngest comes and informs me dinner is ready.
During dinner, they whisper about me. I ignore and munch on the sweet savory food. Once we finish, I stand and start cleaning the table. Mocking laughter escapes their lips. Oh, s**t! I forgot I am not in my pack.
The alpha shakes his head in disappointment. He rises and says, “follow me.” In his office, he apologizes to his daughters. He starts talking about dad. I don’t know what he is trying to do but I need him to stop talking and ask me what I want.
I clear my throat, and he stops. “Sorry, I loved your dad.”
Me too.
I wiggle on the chair. I can’t get comfortable.
“You want to sit on my chair?” He asks.
I chuckle. “Thanks, Alpha Blue.” He starts speaking and I cut him off. As much as I would like to hear stories about dad, I want to get it out already. “Alpha, I am here asking for you to take me in.”
“What?” He screams, surprise covering his face.
“Yes, I can’t survive out here with no pack, Alpha Blue.”
“What do you mean?” He asks.
I pinch my arm to avoid snapping at him. Why is he pretending not to know what I am talking about? If his daughters know what happened with me while at my pack, he surely does too. Furthermore, I am not here under normal circumstances. Why else would I be here?
I repeat, using a different angle. He rises and walks to the window. I rise too, showing him respect. For what feels like an eternity, he turns around and grabs my hands. Is this a rejection?
“I am sorry. I can’t go against my daughters’ wishes.”
Of course. Such a hater. And here I thought we share the same love towards dead Alpha Redford. What was I thinking?
I don’t accept immediately, I can’t. This is one of the few packs I was sure he will help. I take his palm to mine. His is so soft unlike mine that has seen the sun and the rain. “Please, let me talk to them. They will understand where I am coming from.”
The alpha pulls away. For a split of second, I see fury. It disappears immediately before I ask him why he is mad. I am not trying to go over his head or anything. I am hoping if I speak with his daughters and elaborate on the importance of having a pack, they will understand.
I can even ask them to chase after me, for them to see how fast they will catch up. To proof I am harmless.
Alpha Blue shakes his head repeatedly, “I understand you, I really do.”
Oh, you do not.
“But understanding isn’t a factor here. My daughters are my life. I am sure your dad would understand.”
Oh, bringing the dead, are we?
