Chapter Twelve

MIRABEL REDFORD “Aren’t you a rogue?” What no. I am not a rogue. I don't want to be a rogue. Rogues are bad. They bring havoc on their wake. “NO,” I answer, my voice loud. “Relax. Who are you?” This is it. He nods at me to speak. I swallow hard and call for Juniper to lend me energy. It was just a mere try but she replies, “he seems nice, say the truth.” Oh, crap, you are here. I will deal with you later. “Thank you, Alpha Gray. I am Mirabel Redford, daughter of deceased Alpha Redford and Alpha Debra of the White Moon Pack. I have been a rogue for the past few weeks. I have been searching for a pack to take me in and they have all turned me down. “I have nowhere to go and I hope you will take me in. I am great at many things. I can clean, I can cook. I can lawn. I can fence. To name a few. I won’t be useless, I promise.” I rant and rant, I mention everything I am good at and I am telling you, I have never talked this much in my life. For f**k sake, who cares if I know how to mix paint? The alpha let me speak, his eyes never leaving mine. “Alpha Gray, answer me, please.” My voice breaks on the edge. I say after I am done and he is still staring at me as if I am the most precious mine gold he is trying to decipher how he would dig the gold out. “Alpha Gray?” I wave in front of him. I am dying here, I will be your slave if I have to be. I need a pack. “Oh, right.” He waves. “I was waiting to hear if you can climb a tree.” “I can.” I chirp, throwing my hands in the air. Oh, I will climb a mountain with a timer. He laughs. “Mirabel, it is okay. You can stay.” “WHAT?” I scream at the top of my lungs. Wasn’t that a little bit fast? I put up a fight and ask, “you are not going to ask me anything else? Did you only want to know my name and I ramble on and on about my skills and personality?” Alpha Gray straightens his back, “Mirabel, did you kill your father? Did you plan on taking the throne from your mother?” I shake my head rapidly, a mischievous grin appears on his face. “What threat did you pose to your mother and your pack?” “Nothing. I was good. I was a good good girl. Trust me.” The alpha throws his head and laughs. Oh, this one here is the weirdest. He stops and leans in, “you didn’t try to… snatch… or?” Uh? What the hell? I immediately know what he means. Of course not. I am not the kind of wolf who goes around lusting over other she-wolves’ mates. Furthermore, she is my mother. Dad loved us unconditionally, both of us and that was the genesis of mom’s hatred toward me. Please, someone, tell me the alpha is not asking me if I wanted to take my mother’s mate. “No. No.” He shakes his head. Rubbing his face, he clears the doubts in my mind, “I am asking if you ever thought of killing your mother because I have heard everything you went through while in there.” Oh, thank heavens. It wasn’t about a love triangle. “No. She is my mother.” I tell him. I don’t dwell on the question longer. Have I ever really thought of ending her life? Meghan returns with a cup. She sure as hell knows how to take her sweet time. I sit and place my head on the headboard. She places a pillow behind my head. I smile at her sweetly and thank her. “My pleasure.” She replies and hands me the cup. I take a sip and it is the same moment the alpha is leaning towards me, I spew all of it on the alpha. f**k me! Juniper tells me, “she is a complete psycho, stay clear out of her, my partner in suffering.” Thanks Juni. The alpha takes the cup while telling me it is okay. He tells Meghan, “mmh, something else?” Meghan leaves while counting her fingers, doesn’t she know how to make tea? The door opens and the man with beautiful eyes returns, I feel Juniper retreat. I feel funny all over my body. The alpha notices my discomfort and motions for the man to move closer, he says with an assuring smile, “Mirabel Redford, daughter of Alpha Redford and Luna Debra. Meet my son, Spicer Gray.” Spicer. Sweet name. “He hit me,” I say, instead of asking what is inside my mind, why is he speaking of dad as if he is alive? Why is he addressing me as Luna Debra? Oh, this alpha is on point. When Spicer says nothing, the alpha winks, “give him time. He is warm and fuzzy. Son, bring her food.” Spicer rolls his eyes and leaves. He returns with sandwiches, I try to eat but I can’t. My stomach is turning. I blurt, “Alpha Gray, are you serious I can stay?” “Of course. You will undergo some blood ritual. You will take an oath, a promise you won’t snatch the pack from me.” “Anything,” I reply enthusiastically at the same time Spicer growls at his father. “Son, go train or something.” The alpha dismisses him. I stare at the door. I hear the alpha saying, “my son gets that from a lot of wolves. Both gender." He winks. "It is his eyes." Eyes? No way. It is the way he talks. The way he walks. He is mysterious and sexy. So yummy. Goddess, wipe my mind clean. “Mirabel Redford. Welcome to The Golden Wood Pack.” The alpha says, spreading his arms wider. Oh, I have a home? Tears start streaming down my face, my heart no longer burns with pain for the past five years and these past few weeks. It yearns to grasp for the hope I have and never let go. The alpha tells me to scream if I want to. He promises he will return and exit. I cry my eyes out for the rest of the day and only stop when Ilana returns to clean my wounds. Ilana tells me it is okay. This weird pack of wolves has accepted me. I have a home, a home where everyone has their way of taking care of me. A lone wolf who suffered under her mother. A wolf who was chased away by everyone. A daughter of the alpha who has promised loads of money for anyone who brings me back to her? How will my life be inside the Golden Wood Pack? Will I make friends or will I remain to be a lone wolf? Juniper, my partner, will you like it here? Spicer Gray, will we be friends? Or will you forever keep my arms away?
