Chapter Eleven

MIRABEL REDFORD My throat is closing and my effort to unclog it goes in vain. This is the perfect way to die, choking. Damn it. When you think you have made it is when life throws you a load of crap. I call Juniper to help me and she doesn’t answer me. Is this the end? I can’t die. I feel like my eyes are glued together as I try to open them. Finally, when I do, I hope never to feel that feeling again. Wow! A smile stretches on my face. These are the greenest pair of eyes I have ever seen. They are gorgeous. I need someone to attach wires at the end of the corners of his face so I can stare at them for an entire day. The face, the eyes, the cheekbones, the color… HOLD ON! Hold the f*****g on. I recognize these sets of orbs, motherfucker! The smile drops, I lift my fingers and scream, “YOU!” The imbecile hit me on the nose and now he is here hovering above me with his breathtaking face as if he cares. Oh. I am going to make his day fantastic or is it night? I won’t tolerate anyone hitting me. Never. The beatings I got from my pack will sustain me for the rest of my life. For the love non-caring moon goddess, do I walk around with a label on my face screaming, “HIT ME. SLAP ME.” Nope. The green eyes man scoots backward, I narrow my eyes at him and try to sit up. He isn’t going anywhere. “Come back here,” I call him. Before he replies, a painful shriek escapes my lips. Unimaginable pain goes through my body. I hear ringing in my head. Someone is trying to cut off my arm and leg. I fall back to the bed and start writhing in pain. Different kind of emotions passes through me, feelings I don’t understand. I see his face; I can hear him talking but I don’t know what he is saying because I can only see his mouth moving. I lift my hand to grab him and he moves far away from me. This man is meant to heal. Can’t he let me hold on to him as I die? I see my life in front of me like a movie. I summon Juniper to help me but I don’t feel him. “Help me,” I utter. As my eyes shutters completely, I hear a lady’s voice screaming, “don’t stand there like a buffoon, Spicer. Call the f*****g healer.” *Two days later** Oh, I love my life. If anyone asks me to change it, I won’t even for a minute. I was about to die, yeap! If it hadn’t been for this beautiful woman with cute spectacles, I wouldn’t be here. The arrows they shot at me were deadly. I have been told if the healer had arrived an hour later, I would have succumbed. Apparently, I was lucky since she had returned a few days earlier from the healer's retreats. Told you, I won’t ask for another life. The lady who I am embarrassed to ask her name is applying ointment over my arm and leg. She bathed me and clothed me. She recognizes the blush on my face and points, “hey, no need to be ashamed. We are glad you are okay.” I nod and rest my head on the pillow. I don’t know if it is the medicine or I am in my head, but I feel safe in here. I call Juniper to tell me what we should do and she doesn’t answer me, she has been like this since I arrived and when I woke up. What is wrong with her? I thought she would be happy with me finding us somewhere like this. Is she gone forever? “I am Ilana. Get better.” The healer says while gathering her belongings. “Thank you. May I…” The door opens and the guy who hit me enters, Ilana nods at me and leaves. I narrow my eyes at him. He is weird and he comes with weirdness. “You should rest.” He says and exits in a few seconds. I inhale deeply and catch the sandalwood scent. I hum, shaking it off. I shouldn’t worry about scent and stuff right now. I don’t rest and try to conjure my perfect speech for the Alpha. This is my last option. If I don’t get accepted, I am done. A knock comes and the door opens. Why would someone knock when they won’t wait for me to answer? A lady with brown hair resting slightly above her shoulder walks towards me, she asks if I am okay. She touches my legs and says I am healing pretty quickly. I don’t tell her it is the alpha blood in me since I am unsure if it is that or the fact that the healer arrived when I needed her. The lady looks around the room, “do you like green?” For the first time, I notice the painting in the room. They are clouds but in green. Weird. I notice a lone bird with something on its peak. The room has nothing apart from the bed and the table beside me. Damn. Can this place get any weirder? “I am sorry you got shot.” She stretches her hand, “I am Meghan. Friends call me Meggy.” I nod. She laughs, “who am I kidding? So tell me, who are you, where are you from? Why are you in my pack?” The more she quizzes me, the more I realize she has no intention of hearing my answers. Why else would she start pacing while shooting question after question without pausing? Oh, this is boring. I clear my throat and she stops, “sorry, I am in charge of guarding the borders. I just want to let the questions out of my chest.” Good for you, can I speak with the alpha now? My inner voice is getting stronger. She continues speaking and then goes to the door. She swings it open and a man with a striking resemblance to the other who hit me enters. Clearly, he is the dad. Meghan or Meggy bows, “Alpha Gray. I haven’t gotten any reply yet.” “Meghan. We should return to communication class. You didn’t give the poor girl a chance to speak.” Alpha Gray pecks her on the cheek. Meghan giggles, “damn it! Turn taking.” The man laughs, a sweet laugh. His eyes glitter. A pang of jealousy hits me. Whoever the lady is, she is close to the alpha. Is she his daughter? He looks at me and the smile drops from his face, “Meghan, be a doll and bring her something to eat.” “Sure.” “Are you okay?” He sits on the bed, it dips from the weight. Should I sit? “No. Rest your body.” He answers me without me voicing it out. “I am Alpha Gray. I apologize for my warriors shooting you. We won’t want you to die on us, yeah?” “No problem. It is my fault. It was at night. Night brings chaos and danger, of course, the only thing the warrior would think is I am a rogue.” “Aren’t you a rogue?”
