SPICER GRAY
No matter how many times I ask the moon goddess why she brought her here, I get no reply. The ancestors should go f**k themselves, they lied when they said alphas, lunas, and their pups could communicate with the supreme being.
Am I not the alpha’s son?
My eyes are stuck on her and so is my mind. I don’t care what my wolf thinks, he should accompany the ancestors in screwing themselves. The small tug on my arm brings me back, “what?” I bark.
My so-called Beta shakes her head in disappointment, “you know what Spicer, f**k you!” She screeches. My wolf stops speaking about the lady and inquires, “why is your beta always on edge?”
She removes her black jacket hurriedly and covers the lady. My wolf hums, “oh, forget it. She comes in handy, you should start noting her name down.” I don’t give a damn. I always confuse her pronouns for a reason, I don’t want her to think we are besties.
I come to my senses when the lady starts groaning. Stupidly, out of reflexes, I hit her on the nose, hard. My wolf cusses me for harming her. I clear my throat and stand upright. “Check the borders. Report every two minutes.”
The warrior replies in uniform, “yes, alpha.”
I roll my eyes in annoyance and return my attention to her. I squat beside her and remove some strands of hair from her face. She is gorgeous. Even though her cheekbones are showing more, she is perfect.
“Spicer, what do you think you are doing?”
“Oh, come on. Can you put her in her place for once? We were connecting right now with our mate. Why didn’t Meghan leave and guard the pack like everyone else? Why? Why is she always bugging you, what does she want?” My wolf continues ranting in anger as I raise. “Jannelle, you…”
“It is M-E-G-H-A-N. Asshole.” She says through gritted teeth.
A smirk broadens on my face as I move to her, she must know who I am, it seems like she has forgotten. Before I do, she points, “Spicer, my apologies, your eyes.”
I cuss under my breath and start counting ten to one faster. Turning around, I pick the lady from the ground, ignoring the undeniable bond I am feeling. I will deal with Meghan or whatever she calls herself later.
I get feedback as I return to the packhouse. The borders are safe. Some of the warriors have started going up the stream to see if there is something amiss apart from the lady who has dropped out of nowhere.
I let out a sigh of relief at the same time my wolf finishes, “pull her closer into your arms, make her warm.”
I groan, “how about I take her to the f*****g bonfire and burn her up? Shut up, wolf.”
Before I reach the packhouse, my dad rushes to me. He points at her in my arms and then stares at Meghan. He returns his attention to me, “what is the meaning of this?” He growls.
“Dad, not now,” I say as I try to pass him. However, he grabs my hand tightly and narrows his eyes on me. He orders Meghan, his orbs still piercing through mine. “Order everyone to return inside. Now!”
“Yes, Alpha Gray,” Meghan replies in submission and leaves. Ass kisser.
“Let go,” I say lowly. Although I have the lady on my arm, I can push past dad. But I don’t want to do such a thing.
He shakes his head disappointedly, and he tells me, “there is an intruder and you think it is safe to carry her like a shining armor into our home? Without informing me? What now, so? Are you ready to become an alpha?”
“No Alpha Gray. And I prefer if we speak of this later. The lady is cold and the werewolves will start streaming in. Not everyone wants their bodies on display like you.”
“Come take her.” He says to a she-wolf passing.
A growl escapes my lips, making the wolf coil back in fear. Before dad or I can react to what the f**k I just did, I enter the packhouse. Oh, f**k! Please, someone, tell me dad is still high from so much f*****g he didn’t hear my heartbeat erratically and even turned deaf and didn’t hear me uttering so much in so little time.
I take the stairs two by two, I arrive at the guest wing. Kicking one door with my leg, I enter the room. I place her on the bed. My eyes lay on her cute pink n****e. Swallowing, I look away immediately. My wolf tells me I am a wuss. I grab the sheet from the table beside the bed and cover her up.
Soft whimpers escape her lips as she curls up.
I start pacing while my wolf dances. He is enjoying every minute of this. Halting, I cover my nose. No. No. I can’t recognize her scent. I shouldn’t. The sweet scent coming from her makes me want to jump on her and hug her tightly.
I refrain and keep pacing. For what feels like an eternity, my dad enters, and he informs me the pack is safe and Meghan with her dad are guarding the borders. He winks and sends me a link asking, “if everyone sees you now, they will pity you. Son, trust me, I prefer when they are all jealous of you.”
Dad is weird sometimes and he knows it. I don’t want any of his explanation so I don’t ask what he means. Dad stares at the lady on the bed for a few minutes and stares at me. His eyebrows shoot up.
I look away.
Dad and I have never spoken of mates. Also about me becoming the alpha, he had put it aside for as long as he wanted.
We have a code between ourselves. A code to keep ignoring the common issues the alpha and his son should have. One is about mates, either mine or his. Two, my exploration nights when I was young before everything went whirlwind.
We stay in silence, just staring at the lady. A knock comes, and instead of answering, I motion for dad to go and see who it is. Dad scoffs but goes anyway.
“I will like to be with him.”
It is Meghan, of course, it is her. She is the definition of not knowing where to draw the line. I am surprised she knows what borders and territories mean. “Chase her away, dad,” I tell dad through the mindlink.
I hear dad’s chuckle and the creaking sound of the door. Dad, f**k you. “Come on in. I am glad my son has you.” He tells Meghan. Meghan thanks my dad and comes near me, I move aside. She is touchy and I know she is about to touch me and murmur bullshit.
I was wrong though.
She leans forward and touches my mate’s hair, “who are you?”
My wolf threatens to come out if I don’t get Meghan’s hand out of our mate’s hair. I clear my throat and Meghan let go. Thank you.
Meghan stands with hands behind her, “Alpha Gray, Alpha Spicer, we should talk outside.”
When will they hear I am not an Alpha? When will they call me Spicer like I want?
My wolf warns me, “we shouldn’t leave her alone. We must stay by her side. To make sure she doesn’t have a concussion from the hit earlier. Dude, you are crazier than anyone thinks. Why would you hit her?”
An involuntary laugh escapes my mouth, I try to cover it with a fake cough but it is too late. Both my dad and Meghan are staring at me with confused looks. “What?” I ask arrogantly.
“We should be working to figure out who she is and why she is here. So, why are you laughing? Do you two know each other?” Meghan inquires, doubts dancing in her eyes.
Oh, Meghan. Why are you so brazened suddenly? Why do you keep speaking to me as if we are pals?
“Son, if you know her and you think she is harmless to our pack, say it. A few weeks ago, you were the one who told me we should toughen up the security at the borders.” My dad supports Meghan.
What should I tell them? Should I say she is the mate I never asked for?
She is the wolf I broke?
The lady on the bed, the one woman I try hard to forget is mine.
Oh. Hell. No.
The little emotion I was sure was on my face disappears, “I don’t know who she is.”
My wolf whimpers, he calls me a traitor, “you belong to the bonfire man, go fry yourself.”
“Dad, all the precautions have been carried. The warriors we sent upstream and down the stream have said there is nothing. Furthermore, other warriors are guarding the borders and the whole pack is inside the safety of our packhouse.”
My dad nods vigorously as if I have just told him something he doesn’t know. He turns to Meghan, “sweetheart, return to the border. Report to us…”
Meghan cuts my dad, “on it alpha.”
She walks out of the room. My father and I stare at her, I am a hundred percent sure dad is thinking the same thing, “the lady is getting bolder.”
Dad slaps me on the back, “let me go and figure out who she is.” He eyes her on the bed then hugs me while saying, “I hope you are right. I do, son.” He leaves the room. I am confused, how will he figure it out?
The door shuts as the tension between me and my wolf increases. Of course, we want two different things. Will this change anytime soon?
One hour later, the bed creaks. She is waking up. My heart starts beating faster, and adrenaline from nowhere starts pumping in me. My wolf is having a party, asking me to let him out to embrace her. I shake him off.
I hover above her, waiting for her to open her eyes. Her eyes flutter open slowly. She smiles. However, this changes immediately after a second. She points “YOU!”
