SPICER GRAY
There is something about being rebellious. It is thrilling and so entertaining. The idea of doing something different of what is expected of you makes me innovative. It is perfect for me. That had been me. Spicer Gray, the alpha’s son.
I despise I have to use the past tense when describing it. I hate to say the past is different from mine. I hate changes and everything that comes with it. I hate the wolves staring at me, saying things like, “he is pretending.” “Soon, his true nature will show up.”
All those times back, I used to have a shield all over me. No word pierced through my skin. But most of these days, every word they say, every whispering in the corners, I hear them and it hurt like hell.
To make the situation worst, I have a great sense of hearing, and as the alpha’s son, it surpasses the alpha himself, something my father has never understood. When I used to be rebellious, I always pride myself on this, now. I hate every minute of it.
I want to be like a normal wolf. I want to have what they have. The funny thing, most of them want what I want. Crazy world, yeah?
Doubt replaced rebellious me. It is what it is now. The big problem is that I think my father, Alpha Gray has a hand in it. I think he got tired of me not listening and decided to ruin me. He won. A lottery for him.
By the time I knew he had a reason, it was too late. I was lost and depressed. Well, these days I no longer express myself as such. The perk of being sad is you don’t have the perfect definition.
Anyways, the only difference now is I am respectful to my father, because one, he is the alpha, and two, he is the only one I give a damn about.
This week is the celebration week. Most of the packs have gone to the White Moon Pack. I am delighted dad said no to everyone who wanted to know. Again, I am doubtful that for whatever reason he had to say no.
Nevertheless, I am grateful.
This is the perfect moment for me to enjoy. Every she-wolf wants a piece of me. I on the other end have no idea why they do. I am no fun and I always spend most of my time doing the pack’s work as the alpha’s son.
Outside is hell, the idea of mingling with the pack, the idea of pushing those she-wolves with desires burning in their eyes drains me. Just speaking, making small conversations. I don’t want any of that.
During these occasions, dad always seems to forget he is a dad, an alpha, and had a mate. When it comes to these celebrations, not only do the horny she-wolves make me want to curl into a corner, but also dad’s behaviors make me want to scream at the top of my lungs.
Anyways, the bottom line is, I am not going outside. I hate crowds. Wolves. And everything that comes with it. The bond. The strength. The mate. The… everything.
At least I can ascertain I am never going to get a mate. Where would I get when any connection seems like a bad idea? Like torture? Nowhere.
I have gotten used to it.
My wolf tells me I should head outside. I don’t listen to it. In fact, I act as though he is not there. We are the complete opposite of each other. I have never stopped asking myself this question, “is he mine?”
Seriously, how can he be outgoing, while I want to stay inside a silo forever?
How can he love running in the woods with dad when all I want to do is stay in a room and stay silent till eternity?
How is he eager to mate and bond when I want nothing of it?
See… Two complete creatures.
It runs its mouth. A groan escapes my mouth, I stand and head to the window. The bonfire outside is still burning. They are having fun. Oh, just thinking of what kind of fun Alpha Gray is having now makes me shiver.
I wish my mother was here, I wish I hadn’t…
I don’t get to finish that sentence and I am glad. My father tells me through the mind link, “the moon in the sky has two sides. The dark and the bright. Are you sure there is none inside you? The rebellious part? How about you bring out the rebellious one? Spicer Gray, go sleep or be useful.”
I roll my eyes dramatically. He is saying that because of party jitters. He hated and still hates that side of me. There had been so many consequences that I will never escape in my entire life.
The effects that I, my mother, and my father have to carry.
He is just saying for the sake of saying.
“Useful it is, Alpha Gray,” I say and close the window.
I close the door behind me and sent the link to the warriors guarding the borders that I am coming. They are dedicated to their duties so that no one, even trumpets would change their minds. They would rather roam near the territories than the party with everyone else.
Lucky them and their dedication.
They tell me everything is alright and I should enjoy myself. I don’t reply since if I do, nothing good would come out of it. The audacity they have to tell me what to do. Pfft!
*
I am at the border now. I am inhaling deeply like someone who is running from danger. I had to run as fast as my legs would carry me since I didn’t want my dad to catch a glimpse of me and call me. Sometimes, he is relentless.
I exhale and rise. One warrior approaches me, I wave at him. He waves back saying, “there are no sights of rogues.”
The rogues are a problem when it comes to us, especially after the news went around that the alpha’s son is older enough and he isn’t the alpha yet. That is another thing to count me out. I don’t want to be a leader. Do you know the perks of isolating myself and all?
If anyone gives me a chance to be reborn, I would like to be born as an omega. To be despised, to be lamented, and to be small. To just… be no one. To have no opportunity to talk to anyone. Forgive me, but I am a load of bad news.
Alas, it is me. Alpha Gray’s son. Since we couldn’t choose, I am doing something for dad and for dad. Making sure the borders are guarded.
The wolf who waved turns and leaves. I stretch my back. Another wolf approaches me, he considers himself my beta. I don’t.
“Hey.” She says.
“Mmh?” Oh, I hate her. She should have my wolf. Their characteristics align perfectly.
“Spicer, when will you let me in?” She whines.
I hate her.
“Spicer, help me, goddess. I will make sure to haul your ass and throw you in the river. Answer me even for once. When will you let me in?”
By letting her in he means a lot. One, allow her in my mind-link circle. Two, let her into my ‘heartbroken heart turned cold.’ Her words. Three, let her talk to me. The list is endless and I will never. I hate her.
“How is the party?” She asks.
I clear my throat, turn around, and head in the direction of the river. I might as well speak to the fish. Speaking with, her, what is her name again? Is just hectic. I feel a tap on my shoulder, I turn in swiftly and grab her. “I told you, never touch me.”
“Jeez. Let go then, your majesty.”
I do but not before I send a warning glare to her. I arrive at the river and sit for a little longer. She comes and I leave. Damn, she should put her energy into something else, I don’t know. Like dancing around the f*****g bonfire?
As I return to the packhouse, I hear a small voice, “help me.” I try to listen again and shake it off. I must be dreaming.
I arrive at the packhouse and head to my father’s bedroom, I sit on the bed and talk to my mother. Telling her I hate it she isn’t here. The normal weird stuff. Before I finish, ‘my beta’ enters without knocking.
“There have been movements near the bonfire.”
I hate these kinds of reports.
She hands me a bow and arrows. She doesn’t struggle to match my strides. Outside, one of the warriors sends a link, “we are shooting arrows at the intruder.”
“Intruder, like singular?”
“Yes.” The warrior says and I can hear a tone of annoyance.
I ask them not to alert the pack. With everything going on, they must not panic.
As we run to where the warriors have said they shooting, I feel something weird, something peculiar. Something I can’t place my finger on it.
“It is a lady.” A warrior says.
I use my wolf’s vision and see the figure. The hair. It is so familiar. Before I tell them not to shoot. They shoot two arrows at her. My wolf screams, agitated, “nooo.”
I drop the arrows and run toward the naked lady. The moment my eyes lays on her, I know it is her. “Why now?” I voice out.
Everyone stares at me weirdly. No matter how many times I tell myself no, my wolf is excited. It is jumping up and down. It wants to scream to everyone who she is. I want nothing but to run as far as possible.
I have always thoughts of my dislike regarding mates, so why, why would the moon goddess bring her here? To my pack? On this night?
Oh, moon goddess, what did I do to deserve this honor?
Most importantly, why her?
