Nobody cares.
At least that is out of the way.
I want to give up. My will to live has gone down and the will to fight too. I have just passed the witches’ territories. I am still surprised how I remember every little lesson my dad taught me. When I think of his death before he taught me, a shudder rushes down my spine.
If it weren’t for those little words of his, I would be a lost cause now.
Since the witches and the wolves don’t see eye to eye, I don’t bother asking for help from them. Furthermore, they are more of a coven than a pack. Their bond won’t help me in any way. Unless I kill Juniper and become a witch.
Juniper scoffs, “wolves bargain their lives when they are on the brink of death. But you dear Mira don’t seem to stop surprising me. Why the hell do you keep thinking of separating yourself from me? You will die.”
She is telling the truth. Furthermore, who do I think I am? The queen? For the witches to stop their hatred towards the Lycans and werewolves, search for a way to help. I am going crazy, I swear.
I am hating this. I hate it from the bottom of my heart.
Mom has let it known to everyone that I am a killer. Even those who would have helped me from pity and their memories regarding dad, chase me away immediately.
I am delighted and confused at the same time. I keep wondering, why no one has dared given me up to dear evil mom. I wonder why they don’t help me and prefer to tell me to leave their borders.
Yeah. I am confusing s**t. I want to be helped. To be saved. To be alive. And still, I wonder why no one is taking me back to the White Moon Pack. One thing is for sure, whoever will return me will be rewarded well and they will have a great bond with dear mom.
Anyways, I keep walking. I wonder where the energy is coming from, but hey, I am not complaining, all I have been doing these days is wandering and walking. So yeah, let me keep going.
The nightfall on me and I hate to agree with Juniper’s idea of us transforming and roaming around. They might not want to help me but if they catch my wolf roaming around and they don’t know me, I will be shot before they realize who I am.
I miss the consistency I had at the White Moon Pack as I lay on the grass. There, at least I knew what will happen from morning till evening. Although once in a while I woke up wondering if mom would come to her senses, at least I had a roof under my head and crumbs to eat.
The pack had been my family and whenever you are surrounded by family, you have hope. Hope that one day someone, anyone might come to their senses and help you.
That hope is what kept burning in me. To the point the first year ended, the second year followed and when the third year arrived, I never thought of escaping. If anyone right now asked why I never ran away from home even when I hit nineteen, I would simply shake my head.
I was wrong, even when it kept proving to me that blood is nothing. Mom hated me, but I still stayed.
Rolling and tossing, I finally decided my best friend is here. Dear insomnia.
I stand and sigh with my hands on my waist. “Go to Red Lock Pack. Give it a final shot.”
Thanks, Juni.
I arrive at the pack in less than three hours. The gate leading to the packhouse was open. It was super weird. I enter the packhouse with my guards down, trust me, being chased and hated has proved to me one thing: they don’t care.
A beautiful redhead approaches me, “hello, how may I help you?”
“Hi. I would like to speak to your alpha.”
The redhead laughs, “you do understand this isn’t a shop you are here to pick whatever you want.”
Juniper, how is the shop and speaking to the alpha related?
“Beats me,” Juniper replies sarcastically.
“I hate when I speak and I don’t get a reply.” The redhead says, anger flashing in her eyes.
“Sorry. Yeah.” I love my name but I don’t know how to say it without her realizing she is supposed to send me away. They are all getting predictable here.
“Doll. I am in no mood. You should be happy those imbeciles left the gate open, or you would be six under. If you want the alpha, he is not here.”
“Where is he?”
The redhead laughs again, “you kid, why are you pushing my buttons?”
Sighing, I tell her who I am. She narrows her eyes on me and finally says, “the alpha went to your pack. The celebration and all. I am Red. Follow me.”
I do. I want her to ask me what happened. She looks moody and great at the same time. She offers me a room and tells me I should wait for the alpha to return.
At around 3 AM, I hear a knock. I rise, my heart beating erratically against my chest. I hope it is alpha. I hope he will take me in. Sorry, my dear mind and heart. But I will do anything.
“Even by his second mate?” Juniper asks.
You never run out of words, do you?
“I am Alpha Red.” The man at the door says. The woman was Red and he is Red. So creepy. “Follow me.”
I look behind me and Juniper tells me, “this is weird.”
Don’t say.
With my hand behind my back, I follow him upstairs. If I had time, I would have admired the packhouse. But not now, now, I am wondering where the alpha is taking me.
We stop abruptly, and he smiles, “we are taking you back.”
Oh, s**t.
“Yes, s**t. Your mom offered me a great reward and help in return for me taking you back. A traitor like you isn’t supposed to get home. Once a traitor, always a traitor. I am sure you will find a way to betray me soon. Mirabel Redford just accepts easily and we won’t fight.” He rants.
“Didn’t you say they are all predictable? This here is ready to sell you out. What now? Go home or…”
I cut Juniper by telling her never on earth will I return. Although during the day I thought of it for a second, right now it seems like a bad idea. With all the promises dear evil mom has given everyone, she is preparing axes to chop me into pieces.
I look behind him and the woman who welcomed my waves. I stupidly wave back.
“Honey, she is nice. Let us keep her.” The redhead purrs.
“No.” The alpha growls.
The redhead leans in and kisses him on the neck. The alpha closes his eyes. She turns him around; the redhead kisses him on the lips. The redhead pulls away and hugs him. I look down and I notice her finger, she is pointing behind me.
I look behind me and see an opening window. It is small but I will fit it. I turn around slowly and approach it. The disgusting sound of kisses increases and so are the moans of the redhead, or is the alpha?
Nevermind.
I look below and I hate to say this, but death is calling me.
“Now, jump you, moron.”
I open the window and it releases a squeaky sound. The last thing I hear before I jump is, “are you sure you are my mate?”
*
I start running towards the gate, luckily, it is still open. I run and run without looking back.
I transform and let Juniper takes control. The way she maneuvers through the woods and forest surprises me. I don’t voice it out though. She continues running until the sun rises. Luckily, we stop near a river. I transform into my human self and sit on the shore.
For the rest of the day, I replan and regroup. I must keep going.
In the evening, I walk near the shore. My stomach grumbles but I ignore it. I stop at a sign, “Gold.” Weird.
I follow the river, not caring where I am heading to. I am completely naked and really, it is not important.
It gets dark and I start shivering. I have no idea where I am or if there are any houses around. By midnight, my legs are throbbing in pain. My mind has stopped working. Juniper has gone silent. The only thing keeping me the company is the sounds of crickets.
I sit and before I fall asleep, I hear noises. I follow it and from a far distance, I see a bonfire. I look at my naked body and shake my head. They have seen a naked body before. “Help me,” I whisper.
I wait and wait. No one comes to my rescue.
With a calculative move, I start walking around the bonfire. Too bad, I don’t look where I am heading or what is below me and a wire catches my skin. It digs deeper, making me scream in pain.
I pull and it makes everything worse.
Before I know what is happening, the noise disappears and I hear wheezing sounds past me. One falls next to me and I realize it is an arrow. “Please, don’t shoot,” I utter meekly.
This is it.
I am dying today.
“You are not dying, i***t,” Juniper exclaims.
I rise slowly and rise my hands, “please…”
I don’t finish as arrows are shot at my leg, and one at my arm. I fall like a sack of potatoes and the last thing I remember hearing is a deep velvety tone asking, “why now?”
