JACQUELINE’S POV
“Her name is Jacqueline, quite an unusual name, but she comes with an exotic beauty. And what makes her different from the rest, she is a virgin.”
I could hear the chatter of people below the stage. They were very interested in that little fact, my virginity.
Tears burned in my eyes. I hated this. I was put on the stage with the others, and we were being advertised like goods. Boys and girls of all ages, sizes, and races.
Was this even legal?
And most importantly, why did I have to be the last? The Madam said I was the main event, that they had not had a virgin in ages. That was all I was, some circus monkey with nothing to offer but the fact that I had not slept with anyone yet.
It was not even that special.
I could not cry though. Not like this. Not in front of people who were bloodthirsty, who would not stop at anything to drain me of everything.
The bidding began.
“Ten thousand dollars.”
“Thirty thousand dollars!”
“Seventy-five thousand dollars.”
Just looking at the person who said that made my skin crawl. He was sitting in the front, so I had a good view of him. He looked old and wrinkled. I was sure the only thing holding him together were his fragile bones, and he could fall over at any second.
His eyes were wicked as he looked at me. “I can’t wait to rip your flower, baby. You will bleed so pretty for me.”
Who still talked like that? He sounded like some centuries-old vampire.
The auctioneer smirked. “Seventy-five thousand dollars for Jacqueline.”
“One hundred million dollars.”
The entire hall erupted into gasps. That was the biggest bid all night, and it was for me?
Was I even worth it?
I had never even seen such an amount of money in my entire life, and now that was the price I was being sold for. It was such a strange situation, and there were so many mixed feelings rushing through my head.
Fear. Uncertainty. Unease. But mostly, I wondered whether I should be offended or flattered by the price whoever it was had offered for me.
I tried to look at who made such a bid, but the stage was too bright, and I could not see his face. All I saw was a silhouette.
And four pairs of eyes staring intensely at me.
Still, I could feel his aura from here. Cold, dark, and extremely dangerous.
The auctioneer cleared his throat. “Wow. That’s impressive. Anyone with a higher bid?”
I could see his eyes gleam with greed. One hundred million dollars, and yet he was still asking if anyone had a bigger bid. But I guessed in this kind of business, it was better to be greedy and take everything while you still could.
“If anyone bids higher, then I will triple the amount.”
That gruff voice again made the hairs on my neck stand on end. I could feel his eyes on me, assessing me slowly. All of my senses were on alert.
If there was a God, I would have prayed to Him. But too many things had happened to me to convince me that even if He existed, He did not care about me.
He was never going to come save me.
I began picking at my nails until I felt them bleed. It usually made me feel better, but now it was not working. I could feel my nerves spiralling.
What was going to happen to me? With this amount of money, whoever took me was a very powerful person. Strong enough to make me disappear from this world without a trace.
Would anyone even miss me?
I doubted it, but still, I was not ready to die. Or have my organs used for some illegal harvesting ring or whatever.
What if he had some strange virgin obsession like that old pervert? I did not even know who he was.
Please. I knew I said God did not care about me, but I really needed to be proved wrong right now.
But as usual, nothing.
“All right then. As of this moment, Jacqueline has been sold. Come collect your purchase at the back.”
Purchase. That was what I had been reduced to.
The cage was opened, and the auctioneer dragged me out by my hair. His eyes were wild, spittle coating my face as he spoke. “You were bought for a very large sum of money by very powerful people, so I suggest that you behave.”
He dragged me through the side door of the stage and flung me roughly onto the ground, my back hitting the wall.
“Ouch!”
I moaned in pain. Everything hurt, but I knew that no matter what happened to me, this was it. No one was coming to save me.
The man’s eyes gleamed. “Shame though. I wish I could have gotten a taste of you first.”
My eyes widened. “Please don’t do this.”
He moved closer and grabbed my breast. “Maybe I could just…”
“Get your filthy hands off her!”
It was a loud, angry growl before he was thrown off me. I hugged myself tightly, trying to shield my body. I was only wearing the thin lace gown I had been given, and I felt completely exposed.
“I am sorry, Sirs. I shouldn’t have touched your package.”
Sirs?
The auctioneer looked ready to pass out, shaking violently. I looked up to see what had terrified him so much, and I understood.
They looked like they did not belong on this earth. Two dangerously handsome men who looked so similar, yet so different.
If these were the people who bought me, then there was no way back.
I was never going to get out of their grasp alive.
How did my life even turn out like this in the first place?
