There was so little useful information that Annie had been able to tell Lucas, that it didn’t take long for him to start calling Harry with questions. Harry complained that he never knew what to say to him, not knowing how much she was happy for Lucas to know, and not really being able to talk freely on the phone anyhow. Phones were unreliable things when it came to real privacy, apparently, because they always made Annie’s words stumble over each other whenever she tried to say anything to Harry that was even remotely related to Eden.
After about three weeks of fielding Lucas’s calls, Harry turned up at her farm one morning, presumably to tell her off. She was kneeling by the strawberry plants trying to catch a pesky blue-tongue lizard when she felt him approach. She knew she
