best friends
With graduation over Sarah and her two best friends had one week left together, it felt like their youth was ending. Even worse it felt like her trio was breaking. Starting Monday all of her friends would be headed off to different cities to start their new lives. They planned to make this week the most memorable week of their lives. Jodie and Jake, fraternal twins, but if you didn't know they were related you would never guess. complete opposites. The two had been through everything with Sarah. Tied to each other since kindergarten. They had met on the playground the first day. Jodi was being teased for having a boy for a twin, somehow the other five year olds thought that meant she was a boy too. Sarah who at the time was as meek as a mouse had stood up for Jodi, telling all of the other girls they were just ( well a word that probably shouldn't come out of a five year old mouth). Sarah's mom wasn't too happy with her when the teacher called home that evening, but it earned Sarah her best friends. After that Sarah and Jodi were inseparable, it took a little longer for Sarah to get used to Jake. The two fought like cats and dogs from the beginning. First it was who was the fastest runner, then the best at baseball, and always who had the best grades. although they never got over their little competition they learned to love each other if only for the sake of Jodi, and they maybe enjoyed the competition too. In five short days however they would all be headed to different parts of the country. Jake was headed to basic training and then to a military base in Texas, Jodi had a full scholarship for a fashion institute in LA, and Sarah was off to New York, to hopefully some day write for one of the best papers in the country. They wanted to start their week off in their favorite childhood places, so Monday they headed for the lake where Jodi laid out reading her fashion magazines all day, only briefly pausing to watch her brother and best friend make fools out of themselves.Sarah and Jake spent the whole day competing, wether it was seeing could swim across the lake the fastest, hold their breath the longest or even build the best sand castle( this one ending in a tie because they both thought their own was better and Jodi refused to get involved). After a long day of sun and competition they decided to head to Eddie's, their favorite middle school hangout. They sat in their favorite booth, the one with all of their initials carved into the bottom corner. Sarah had been terrified the entire time that Jake had spent doing it. Sarah had never been a rule breaker and getting ing trouble with Mr. copasli was terrifying. They all got their regular orders, Sarah, a banana split hold the banana because she thought the meer sight of one was disgusting. Jake a banana split with extra bananas, Sarah swore it was simply to gross her out. And Jodi and her triple fudge brownie sundae, because if it wasn't chocolate she didn't want it. The sat there reminiscing on all of the silly dramas they had in middle school sitting at this very table. The time Jodi was being bullied by the other cheerleaders so Jake had made all of his football friends break up with them, Or the time Sarah had gotten her one and only C and Jodi insisted it was a good thing and they had to celebrate. She had known just how to cheer Sarah up. There was also the day that they had found out Sarahs father had died while sitting in their booth. The news has been on talking about a fire in east end when a live broadcast had announced a local firefighter dead. They had broadcast his photo right across the screen. Jodi had looked up saw it and tried to keep Sarah from looking. That made Sarah want to know more, but as soon as she saw it she went completely still. she still to his day can't remember how she got home. Sarah couldn't believe it has truly been so long since he's passed. Tuesday they decided to go to Wicked water. Sarah was determined to ride the drop before she went off to college. She had been trying to ride it for years but as soon as they started to close the doors she would panic. Of course Jake had no such problem, he had ridden it the very first year they were tall enough and had been teasing Sarah since, but not today. They headed straight for the ride as soon as got there. Jodi staying at the bottom to cheer Sarah on, and Jake following right behind her taunting the whole way up he steps. The closer she came to the front of the line the more anxious she felt, but she was about to go to New York , she wasn't a baby anymore. She had to ride it, if only to prove to herself she could do it. Her turn came much quicker then she had hoped and soon she was standing on the platform waiting on the door to close. As the lifeguard began to shut it though, the same panic came rushing back. Sarah pushed the door back open and rushed out. She waited for the taunting from Jake, but it never came, instead he grabbed her by the shoulders, looked her in the eyes and said" you've got this trout". it was the name he had been calling her since childhood. She had bragged to him that she could swim like a mermaid and instead he insisted on calling her trout. This time however the name didn't sound like a taunt. He pushed her back in the direction of the slide and she climbed back in. She could do this. The door closed , and before she could process the floor dropped out from under her and she was dropping 75feet. It only felt like a second before she was at the bottom where Jodi was screaming her name and clapping, she had finally done it. Jodi pulled her out still clapping. "Jake can suck it, you did it" she tainted. Sarah didn't know how to tell her that she couldn't have done it without him. All of a sudden she was jerked from jodi's arms and being spun in circles. "I knew you could do it trout". and she had. She'd concurred her fear and her two best friends were their to support her. had decided to go to a party at a former classmates house as a last harah. walking into the cramped house the music was pumping. Sarah immediately had to find a quieter corner away from the crowd but forever opposites Jodi thrived in the crowd. She hooked Sarah by her arm and preceded to grind on her. Just one dance-she pleaded with a big smile. Sarah couldn't say no, so the two danced until Jodi became distracted by a cute blonde she had eyed all of senior year. Sarah taking the time to escape, snuck into the backyard where a few people were crowded around a table for beer pong. of course this is also where she'd find Jake, he couldn't pass up a good competition. she couldn't pass up the opportunity to beat him. As soon as it was their turn the trash talk began and it didn't stop until Sarah landed the ball right into the center of Jakes last remaining cup. Jake picked it up complaining about how Sarah always had to win, but the s mirk in the corner of his mouth let her know that he didn't mind losing to her too much. It had been a while since Sarah had felt as carefree as she felt in those moments. She wanted to enjoy her last night with her friends, and seeing as Jodi was nowhere to be found she would be finishing the evening with Jake per usual except this evening wasn't going to end in their usual way.
