Chapter 1
{Amara POV}
Beep, beep, beep. “I overslept!”, gasps Amara. “s**t, s**t, s**t” she mutters while throwing on an oversized nude graphic tee, blue Jean shorts, and her favorite pair of nude Steve Madden tennis shoes. “I cannot be late to Mr. Davis class again. Failure is not an option.” She thinks to herself. This is my last year of school and there is no way in hell I’m taking this class again. Ugh! Why did I have to stay up all night binge watching The Office. Rushing to the bathroom, I quickly brush my teeth with a quick smile afterwords showing my perfect white teeth. “What am I going to do with this hair I think out loud to myself?” I have corse curly hair but I like to keep it straight and sometimes when I sleep my hair frizzes up through the night. Even though I sleep with a satin bonnet. I quickly ran through my hair with the straightener and did a half up half down style. Not bad for a 10 min hair style I think to myself. Lastly, I throw on some lip gloss and hit the door.
Bump. “Oh sorry, I’m late I didn’t see you there,” I say glancing up quickly. “No worries love”, he says with the smoothest English accent while picking up my book bag that I don’t remember dropping. God this man is fine. He looks to be 6’5, dark chocolate, with dimples. He smiles at me and asks for my name. I almost fainted once I seen them dimples mixed in with his pearly whites. “How rude of me”, I say while trying not to seem overly excited. “My name is Amara and yours?” Still smiling he says, “I’m Dyson”. “Well nice to meet you Dyson but I really have to get going. Bye!” I yell to him while I run off to class.
{Dyson POV}
“Oh okay,” I say with a disappointed look. “I guess you have to go to class” but she didn’t hear me as she was already halfway down the dorm hall. I gather my thoughts and remembered that I was headed to my mom’s house before Amara beautiful face and body interrupted me. “Damn what’s wrong with me. I just met this girl, literally bumping into her and I can’t stop thinking about her.” Maybe she’s bewitched me” I say with a light chuckle. It’s no way I can still remember her name when I suck at names. If it was anyone else that I’d bumped into I doubt I’d remember their name and this I’m certain of.
“Ma,” I yell. I’m home. Are you in the covenstead?” “Yes, I’m in here”, she says as I walk into our person occult studies room. “My handsome boy, I can swear you’ve gotten taller since I just seen you two days ago.” My mom says as she hugs me. “Ma, you say that every time you see me” I say with a chuckle while I return the hug. “I know but it amazes me everytime I see you. You know your dad is only 6’1” and me I’m only 5’4 so it astonishing how tall you are.” “Yeah, yeah.” I say. “Let’s get to work.” See my mom has been teaching occult studies since I could talk. I guess you would say that I’m a warlock and purebred as some would call it. Everyone in my family tree as far as I know are witches and Warlocks and dates all the way back to the Salem trials so I’ve been basically bred into this lifestyle. I have some warlock and witch friends but my closest friends are mortal and don’t know about my powers but I don’t mind it. It’s nice to take a break from the occult world so.. my thoughts were interrupted by mom. “Are you paying attention? You never know when a demon will attempt to attack you for your power. You are a purebred Dy and as you get older so does your power. I want to you to be fully prepared to defend yourself. You don’t live under our roof so your father and I cannot always be there to protect you and you know neither one of us has the power of shimmer.” “I know ma sorry I got a little distracted. Truth is I met this girl today. I literally bumbes into her as she was coming out of her dorm and I cannot get her out of my mind. She’s so beautifully intoxicating I can’t stop thinking about her. No one has ever had this type of affect on me before.” My mom is listening with this eerie look. “ Ma why you making that face” I laugh. “Oh honey it’s just sounds like my baby may have finally found that one for him. Now, I have to ask is she a witch? You know our family’s blood has to stay pure.” “I don’t know Ma. I don’t know anything about her but her name, Amara.” “Amara, what a beautiful name.” My mom says. “ and She has a beautiful face to match it. I’m going to find her at her dorm after our lesson to see if she’d be willing to go grab dinner or drinks.” “That sounds fine, hon. Just remember at some point to try to have a the witch conversion. If you’re that smitten by her she has to have some power.” “Okay, ma. I’ll see if she’s a witch but don’t hold your breath and regardless if she is or isn’t if she’ll have me I plan on moving forward with getting to know her. “Ok, hon, my mom says. Now back to the lesson at hand. In order to make the vanquishing potion silent and for the added bonus of the potion not leaving behind remnants of the demons. You’ll need to add a teaspoon of frogs blood. Trust me. This is a lifesaver. I once had to vanquish a demon in the parking lot of your daycare when your 6. The potion works so well no one ever suspected a thing.” “ You had to vanquish a demon at my daycare. Wow I wonder when I come into my full power what strange places will I have to defend myself at. What if Amara’s mortal. I can’t be vanquishing demons while with a mortal it’s no way she’d accept that. She’ll be scared out of her mind and always on edge. Let me just take this one step at a time and try to get to know Amara before I go planning our whole future.
