Chapter 8

Dyson {POV} It’s been weeks and Amara still hasn’t responded to any of my texts. How can she go so long without talking to me? Does she not feel the soulmate bond same as me? It takes everything out me to not go to her dorm and demand that she talks to me but I don’t because I do understand where she’s coming from. She’s human and I’m a warlock. She’ll forever be in danger around me and I have to give her time. I’m just hoping she’ll come around. “Ok, son. You need to focus. Whatever emotion you felt when you first blasted the dummy, you’ll need to find it again. That is the key to your power,”my dad coaches. I nod my head and think back to the emotion I used when I first blasted the dummy. I was angry at my pops because he’s not as patient as mom. We’d been out here for two hours and he wouldn’t let me call it a day. He said that I could leave once I showed even the smallest hint of my natural power. I was tired and frustrated so I angrily pushed my arms out and fire came out so I willed the fire to the dummy. I was shocked while the fire was spewing for my hands. Turning my hands around with the fire never burning my skin. Anger was the key. Okay, I just need to tap into that anger again. This time I was more pumped because I finally found my natural power and I was ready to master it. I was maybe a little too pumped because when I held my arms and hands out nothing came out. “It’s okay, son take your time.” I hear my dad say. “Until you learn how to control your power. You’ll need to keep tapping into that emotion.” “Okay,” I say out loud while shaking my body trying to get rid of the nerves. “Let’s do this. I just need to get angry,” I think to myself. I quickly conjured up the memory of the demon attacking Amara and I after dinner and the fire practically flew from my hands but this time the fire was so hot it was turning blue. I wasn’t sure I could stop the fire from flowing. It felt good releasing that angry I was still harboring from that night. “Woah, there son. Reign in it back it in.” My dad says snapping me out of my fog. “That’s a lot power you got there son. You might not want to hear this, but I think you should take a semester off from school so we can make sure you have full control of these powers.” I don’t understand what he’s saying to me. Does he not trust that I won’t use my powers on a fight with a human or something? “I mean these are some magnificent powers son.” I guess he saw the disappointment in my face from his suggestion because he adds on by saying, “I haven’t seen anything like it in all of my 48 years and I’m not saying that I don’t trust you son. It’s just with powers comes real responsibility and with all of the raw power that you have, it’s going to take time fully gain control over them.” “I get that, pops, but put off a semester. I can’t do that. I won’t. I don’t want my powers affecting my day to day life. I want to live a normal and warlock life. I just have to find the balance and I can’t do that if I cut out my normal life.” “Son it’s just not that simple. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices that you don’t want to make but in the end it’ll be worth it. Now, your grown and can make your own decisions but I do suggest that you take the semester off to hone your powers. He could tell that I was dead set and he couldn’t talk me into changing my mind so ending the conversion. He says, “Just think about it son.” “Alright. I’ll think about it, pops, but I have a class to get to in a couple of hours so I’m going to catch out. “Alright son be careful, he says. “You know me, Pops. I’m always careful, I say while hugging him in return. After calculus class, me and the boys head to the gym to shoot. Lately, I’ve been sure to only hang with them in group settings. I can’t risk a demon showing up and my secret being out to yet another person. Amara didn’t take it well, at all, when she found out. Who knows how Bryce and Micah will take it. “Aye yo pass the ball. I’m open,” yells Bryce while slapping his hands together and then holding them open in a catching form. While dribbling the ball a few more times and once underneath his left legs, Micah looked at me but threw ball to Bryce. Now Bryce had to keep the ball from our opponent. These boys may be freshman but they can play I’ll give them that and they were putting us on our asses. Bryce tried to cross the youngster but he reached out and slapped the ball from him and ran the ball down towards their side of the court. I’m closest to that end of the court so I sprint down after him and steal the ball back and run the ball back down to our side. I make it to the three point line and shoot. “Nothing but net baby. That’s game.” I say arrogantly. “Y’all got it.” One of the youngsters, says. “Aye y’all decent though, Bryce says before the freshman walked out the door. “Keep playing like that and y’all might be able to beat us.” That seemed to make them feel better. “Preciate bro,” one of the guys says as their group continue to walk out the door. “Damn bro. You got the ball stole by a freshman,” Micah jokes. “No hand ball coordination having ass,” I back door. “Shut y’all asses up. At least I ain’t get crossed like your ass, Micah and by a freshman too,” he says sarcastically. “Man both y’all asses suck or them some cold ass freshman’s, I say. “It’s the latter bro. They cold. I don’t know what they was feeding them kids growing up,” says Micah. “Man you stupid, “I say laughing at Micah’s dumb ass comment. “Alright y’all, Ima go ahead and get up out of here, I say before dapping them up. “Alright bro, see you, Micah says.. “Alright my boy, Bryce says.
