Yasmyn's POV
I exhaled out loud the moment I saw Silas walk into the palace.
He walked in with confidence and his eyes scanned as he walked in. All the guards glanced at each other the moment they spotted Silas.
Today is the day he is taking up his duties as the Beta.
He bowed to me and I nodded at him, calmly asking him to stand up and he did.
"Thank you for trusting me with this role, Your Majesty" he said as he stared at the floor.
The more I look at him, the more I cannot shake the words that he told me. That he was my father. I don't really have an option here other than him and that is the only reason he is here.
"I don't have a choice, Silas. So let us be good to each other and restore the order of the Royals. It's getting way too messy here," I told him and he nodded.
"Also stay away from Adi for a few days. He is not really thrilled to know that you are taking up the Beta role for a while," I told him and he nodded, in a way that he was already expecting it.
"Now I have a duty for you," I told him and he stood straight, ready for my order.
"I want you to make sure the lab reports are coming straight to me. I want to make sure everything is in order. If my parents were poisoned, then it's better I know it first. Giving it to someone else might make it difficult," I told him and he bowed to me once again.
He gave me a brief look and I nodded at him. I am playing the game he taught me. The walls have ears, he always says. So I started misleading the walls.
I started saying one thing and then proceeding with doing the other thing. I know that the kitchen team currently in the cells are innocent and the ones we are searching for are roaming outside. I just want solid proofs because I take any action.
Silas then walked out leaving me alone in the palace once again. I wish I can take Havoc out for a run but I have other things to do at the moment.
I nodded at the guard closest to me, and he bowed to me as well.
"Keep a close eye on him. Any suspicious behaviour, you report to me about that. Am I clear?" I asked him and he bowed to me once again before leaving the palace and keeping an eye on Silas.
I sat there for a few more minutes, wondering what to do. Now that Adi is starting to get better, little by little, I guess I can actually go ahead with the coronation.
I will only be a Queen temporarily until Adi is healthy enough to take the crown. I don't want this forever. I am not made for this. I am only being a substitute because there is still a long way of healing for Adi Lorraine, and the race would collapse altogether if the crown is not holding the fort down together.
I stood up and walked upstairs. Selena is sleeping now and so are my parents. I didn't want to see them until I came with a solution on how to save them, if this is reversible like Adi's case. I really want them to be healthy.
I grabbed the key from the small pouch tucked inside my gown and opened the door to Raul's room.
He was standing close to the window and staring at the sky outside. He knows that I arrived and yet, he didn't make a move. He simply stood there, probably wondering what could make him get outside.
"If you are here for answers, then I don't have one" Raul said without even looking at me.
"Hey," I whispered making him turn around to look at me.
"I am not here for answers. I am here because I miss my brother," I told him and he gave me a dry smile.
"You miss your brother? Really?" He asked me with another smile that would probably haunt me for a while.
He is acting weird but I cannot let him go just because of that one reason. At the end of the day, he is still family and I would do anything for my family.
"Where were you when your brother was cornered? I had more claim on the throne than you until one report turned my entire fate upside down. From being the one after Adi, I became the one everyone looked down upon. Do you even have any idea how that feels, sister?" The last word he spoke sounded like he wanted to spew venom with just one word. That one word.
"You can hate me for leaving, Raul. I know I should have been here. I know things took a different turn after I left the palace. But you don't have to hurt Vernon just because you hated not being the King," I told him and he looked up at me.
"What?" He asked me as he took one step forward again.
I looked at him, confused. What the heck did just happen? His entire demeanor changed after I said what I said.
"I said you didn't have to hurt Vernon because you didn't like how I am close to the crown now. Stabbing Vernon was a lame move, Raul" I told him again.
This time, he took one predatory step towards me. His eyes did not even blink as he moved forward. His expression was a mix of shock and subtle anger.
"I did not hurt Vernon," he said and now I am the one confused.
"I saw you stabbing him, Raul. He is still in the hospital. What the heck are you talking about now?" I asked him, taking a step towards him, almost screaming because I am tired of the s**t that's happening in the palace.
"I did not stab Vernon. I stabbed Silas," he said.
What??!!!
