Yasmyn's POV
The world was moving in slow motion around me. The moment I realised what was happening in this palace, the world around me came to a halt.
Brendan and I exchanged glances because we both know where this poison came from. But we are yet to know who used this on Adi.
"What's wrong? You both are scaring us," Selena said and I looked at Adi .
"How long have you been drinking this soup?" I asked him and he thought about it for a moment.
"I don't remember. After you went on your little adventure, I fell sick once. And then slowly my stomach weakened and I was bound to soups. I guess this came around at that time," Adi said.
And just at that time, I thought of our parents.
"What about mom and dad? What food did they take before they fell sick?" I asked both Selena and Adi.
"I don't remember, actually. We never paid attention to things like these. Why?" Adi answered for both Selena and himself. Selena nodded at his words so that told me that her answer was the same.
"Because all along, you were being poisoned, Adi. I can prove that to you," I said .
I am saying so because I am so sure that there is that pink liquid that I saw at The Sundown Pack.
The main question is how it came from that pack to the capital. Moreover, how the heck did someone from the kitchen team give that to Adi?
"Get me an animal, Adi. Any animal. Tiny one though," I told him and he looked at me confused.
"Brendan?" I asked him and he nodded walking outside.
He came back two minutes later telling me that he assigned a guard for it.
"How are you so sure about it.? Because it looks and tastes like regular purple cabbage soup," Adi said as he shook his head at Brendan and I.
"That's the thing. The poison does not really have a particular taste. So you wouldn't know even if it's in your food," Brendan said.
"Then how did you know that there was poison in the soup right after drinking a spoonful of it? It's tasteless as per what you just said," Adi asked as he glanced at both Brendan and I.
"Because I've been around these enough to know the difference of when it is added and when it is not," Brendan's answer was simple and he shut his eyes for a few seconds right after he said that.
The animal the guards somehow managed to get is a rat. The irony. It's said a laboratory rat and here we are with a rat.
"How did you get this?" I asked the guard who brought the rat.
"We set traps in the godown and this was one of the rats that's been destroying the grain storage, Your Majesty," the guard said as he bowed down.
"Alright. Thank you," I whispered and asked him to leave.
I don't want to harm this little life but there is no other way I can prove this to Adi. He still looks like he thinks we are bluffing. But I am not. Especially not when it is about an issue like this.
I placed the purple cabbage soup bowl in front of the rat and waited for it to drink. When it didn't, Brendan took the matter into his own hands and forced the rat to drink.
We waited for a few minutes and the rat looked like it was uneasy at first. And then the sounds coming from it made it clear that it was in pain. And eventually, it laid dead on the same table.
The dosage that's in the soup is enough to kill an animal so small like this one, on the spot. But to kill a werewolf with the power and gene of a Royal , they would need more.
So they did it the most strategic way. They added it one drop a day so he would turn weak. People would think that he had health issues and when he eventually dies, no one would be suspicious of anything.
"Where is the kitchen team.? Call everyone. Now!" I asked the guard closest to us and he bowed to me before hurrying to the kitchen.
I need to join the pack's mindlink . I need to communicate with people on my own and not rely on someone to give the message every single time.
In under two minutes, everyone from the kitchen stood before me. I sat in the living room, on the couch meanwhile. Beside me is Adi. Brendan and Selena took the single seater ones on the opposite side.
"Who is in charge of Adi's diet?" I asked them and five of the twenty people raised their hands.
"Come forward please," I whispered and they did.
"Now, of you, who is responsible for cooking?" I asked and two of them raised their hands this time.
"Excellent," I said and looked at the guard closest to us, "lock them up in the cell and do not let anyone enter or talk to them"
The entire kitchen team shrieked the moment I gave my order. One growl from me made them stand in silence again but they looked afraid though.
"Someone had been poisoning Prince Adi Lorraine for years now. This is me openly asking that someone to come forward and accept their mistake. I am kind hearted so I will consider your apology. But the day I actually find the one who is doing this," I paused and looked at everyone before me, "I swear to Moon Goddess I am going to make you feel like death is the nicest thing you can have"
With that , the guards took away the two women that cooked for Adi.
But I know that both are innocent. No one in their right mind would be directly linked when matter is this delicate. It's someone else.
Yet, for that someone to know that I am running behind a wrong trail, I need them to trust that I am taking the wrong turn. And this is the wrong turn I am deliberately taking.
Whoever it is, they need to pay.
