Brendan's POV
The silence was thick in the air as I stared at the night skies. I am the Alpha to another pack. And yet, here I am trying to help my mate. Not because she isn't capable of it. But because she is still unaware of the dangers around her.
I closed my eyes for a while and opened them only when I caught a whiff of his scent.
Silas is here again.
"Thank you for meeting me here," he said with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes.
"Why did you let Yasmyn go that night? You could have talked more. You could have convinced her. Things are not really great at the capital pack," I told him coming straight to the point.
"This is not the time. I could have told her but she wouldn't see things clearly. Did you even notice how quick she was to not trust me when she thought I was the only one who could help her? If I tried even more, she would never come back again," Silas said.
At times, it feels like he talks in foreign slang. Like someone who is far beyond years. But mostly I don't understand half the s**t he says.
"How is Adi?" He asked me and I just nodded at him.
"He woke up. He asked me what was happening around and I gave him a brief," I paused and scanned the surroundings just to be sure,"and yes, the antidote you gave worked"
Even the doctors didn't know what to do with Adi Lorraine. It was Silas who gave him the antidote. And it worked. So that means, he was poisoned before and he is still under food poisoning.
But we still don't know who's been doing this.
"If one is able to poison someone like Adi and made him into the vulnerable mess that he is at the moment, then I am afraid Yasmyn is equally in danger. She just doesn't know yet," Silas muttered.
I would have thought that Silas was the one who's doing all this if he didn't tell me that he was Yasmyn's father.
I don't know about mine but usually when a father loves their child, they would do anything to protect them.
My father is different from other fathers. Mine never cared and I never questioned either. He is that way and so am I. We don't do well when we are left alone in a room and we certainly don't do well when placed against each other.
Silas stood silent, thinking of something before he pulled out another vial from his inner coat pocket.
"This is more of the same antidote. Keep this with you just in case. And make sure you protect Yasmyn at all costs. Raul will come out eventually and he is not in a good head space. Protect Yasmyn from him. You get me?" Silas asked me and I nodded at him.
When we both heard noises coming towards us, we dispersed and walked in opposite directions.
One of the patrol guards noticed me. He bowed to me and I nodded as I walked even further.
Raul was acting different ever since I came here. And so does Selena. Vernon and Adi looked like they are their usual selves. But Selena spends most of her time in her and her parents chambers. So it is seemingly tough to keep an eye on her.
On the other hand Raul makes a visible mess. His voice is loud. His actions are loud. And his mistakes are even louder.
That's what makes me think that he is not the most dangerous one in the palace. If he intended harm, he would have gone straight for Yasmyn. Not Vernon. And certainly not in a place like hospital where Adi was still unconscious.
Something in me tells that none of us are truly able to see the picture properly. We are missing a key detail that leads us to the one who's bringing the downfall of the Royal family.
Yasmyn is so busy with her own personal drama, that she forgot that she has Queen duties to fulfill. Maybe I'll help her with those starting tomorrow.
For now, since it's already night and everyone is already sleeping, I'll just call it a day.
"Oh My God," I heard a voice and turned to look at the person.
A girl who is just bones and skin, stared at me wide eyed. But with a smile on her face. She was amused to see me and I raised my eyebrow on her.
Do I know her?
"Excuse me?" I asked her and she bowed to me.
The bow made it clear that she knew me. I know the Alpha Aura exists but the way she did tells me that she is aware.
"Have we met before?" I asked her and she nodded at me.
"Of course yes.! But what are you doing here of all places, Alpha Brendan Rivera?" She asked me.
I was slightly taken aback considering she called me using my full name. And I also thought that she is slightly overboard for talking to me that way.
So I turned around to leave but Yasmyn's scent stopped me from doing so.
I turned around again, only to see her walking towards us. But instead of standing close to me, she stood beside the girl who just talked to me.
"I see you two have met each other," Yasmyn said and I looked at her, confused.
"Alpha Brendan, meet Natalie. My friend from The Sundown Pack. And Natalie, meet-"
"How do I not know my own pack's Alpha?" She asked Yasmyn back making her chuckle.
Yeah. Well. How pathetic of me to not recognise someone of my own pack? Okay. Is this how Yasmyn got to know what my parents were telling people who were questioning my absence? Makes sense.
"And I was just coming to you," Yasmyn said.
I nodded at her. Natalie looked at us like she knew everything but I wonder just how much she knows.
"I received a letter from your parents. They invited you and me to their pack," Yasmyn said.
Huh?!
