Wednesday morning, July 10, 1985, Woodstock, Darla, and Rod tossed their duffle bags in the trunk of Woodstock’s Mercury, jumped in the car excited, and began their drive to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They talked and laughed for the first hour of the ride before Darla and Rod fell asleep as Woodstock drove. This concert’s big selling point was that it was being linked by satellite to 110 different nations around the world simultaneously. It would be a long ride from Werchet to Philly, taking the better part of three days. Woodstock and Rod saved all their tip money, and Darla saved most of her weekly paychecks. They were going to stay at a Motel 6 and, according to the desk clerk on the phone, it was only ten miles from JFK Stadium.
