- That's going to be a wild storm. - said William to his son, whilst drinking his Sunday coffee.
- It is quite weird. Hold on. - Weylyn ran inside.
Seconds later he came back with his journal and started violently flipping through the pages.
- I need to go see Cassie. This is something big! - he said and bolted inside.
His father, still waking up, just took a sip from his coffee and smiled.
Weylyn came back.
- Do you...know where she lives? - he asked ashamed.
- Why, yes. Perhaps you require a lift? - smugly noted Will. - Let me get dressed properly and I'll take you there.
- Actually, I want to know for myself. I'll go there on foot.
- Your choice. It's "Buccaneer St., 42". Suit yourself.
- Thanks dad! Hey, you know I love you, don't you?
- Of course I do! Go now.
- Okay, see ya. - Weylyn said and ran through the front door.
The black clouds were staggering. They were twisting around each other over a specific place in the woods. It seemed like a tornado was forming, but the clouds were only there.
- I....need....a....bike. - said Weylyn to himself, as he was almost at the address.
- Yo. - said Cassie to the crawling boy on the ground.
Nothing.
- Okay, take a breath. - she said and sat on the grass beside him.
- Look...at the...clouds.
- Yeah, what about them?
He pulled out the journal from his backpack and dropped it in front of the blonde girl. She picked it up and opened it where it was divided by the pen.
"Demonic Activity
...When a portal is being opened and a being from the hellish landscapes passes through, a tornado like...."
- Blah blah blah. How do you know this?
- Internet.
- Touche. I've wanted to ask you yesterday, but I don't know why I didn't. Where's your chameleon friend?
- Dead.
He met Cassie's non-understanding eyes.
- Apparently, there are different factions. And he was a vigilante. No, more like a last-survivor from his group. Guess why they got extinct?
- Tough. I'm sorry for asking. - she clinched her lips together.
- No worries. Stuff happens.
- I wanted to tell you something... - Cassie started, but a lightning hit the tree down the street.
- We should get inside.
- Good call. - the blonde girl said and grabbed him by the hand.
They ran inside her house.
- Is someone home? - Weylyn nervously asked.
- No, my dad is out.
- So, we are alone? - he smiled.
- Don't get funny ideas, Woo. - she put his hoodie's hood over his head and pulled it down, after which she tied it tight and led him up the stairs to her room.
- Are you going to keep me like that the whole time I'm here? Because I find the lightnings outside more suitable.
- I need to clean my room, dummy. - she said and slapped him gently on the back on the head. - Stay here.
- Give me a treat first.
- That's f****d, man. - she jokingly said and slammed the door.
A few moments passed. These moments turned into minutes, which felt like hours.
- You know, I feel like I'm getting abducted! - he yelled.
- What are you doing in my house? - said a deep, thick voice.
- Um...Is this Cassie's father? - Weylyn said, almost choking.
- Yes. Now, answer!
- She invited me here. She is in her room.
- Good thing she put on your hood, I'd have to get rid of you if you were without one. - he said and laughed.
His laugh made Weylyn uneasy. As if it was fake, but not. As if he was having fun and was angry at the same time.
- You're not actually going to kill me, right? - he started shaking.
- No. Your dad is a policeman, why would I do that?
- I'm glad that's what is stopping you from actually digging me a grave in the woods.
The door of Cassie's room opened and a frustrated girl came out.
- Dad? Are you scaring my guests again?
- What? No! Maybe...yes.
- Can you not do that, please?
- So this is Weylyn? - he asked, untying and removing his hood from his face.
- Dad! - Cassie slightly blushed.
- Woah, I didn't think you were...ah-aware of me, sir!
- It is weird that I'm black and she is not, I know. Her mother...was with white skin. And she looks just like her.
- I didn't mean to.... - he bit his tongue.
- No. I'm sorry for my tasteless jokes earlier.
- Oh. It was really entertaining. As in me almost pissing myself.
- I'll leave you two birdies alone, but if there's something you need, tell me. By the way, Weylyn, the toilet is down the corridor. - he laughed, his laugh still sounding menacing, and went downstairs.
- I thought he'd really kill you. - Cassie said and dragged him inside her room.
- S-so. What now? - the boy sat down on the carpet.
- What were you talking about the storm?
- I think we should go see for ourselves.
- Are you nuts? Did you see the weather? - she exclaimed at first, but brought her voice down. - We almost got killed.
- And? It is better than just sitting here and wondering about it, right?
- You have a point. We should somehow go out without my dad finding out.
- I have a plan. - he said and pointed at the window.
- Remarkable plan. Truly a genius can only think of it. - Cassie said and opened it.
- Indeed, I was the first one to point it out.
They got out of the room and carefully dropped a floor down to the ground. Then they straight ran for the forest.
After twenty minutes of running, both of them were incredibly tired, but were nowhere near the location of the portal. Suddenly a loud explosion went out, it's shock wave bringing both of the teenagers on their backs.
- What the hell....was that? Kay, are you....okay? - he quickly stood up and looked at his friend, which seemed to be knocked out.
- This...nickname.... - she opened her eyes. - ...sucks.
- I'll change it if we survive today. - he nervously laughed.
- We will.
An orange gloom started creeping up on the two.
- It's...too early for the sun to go down. - Weylyn noted. - Oh, god.
- f**k. - Cassie stood up.
- Let's run.
- i***t, that's our way back. It's....on fire!
- Are we in a some sort of a fire circle? - Weylyn looked around.
The trees started moving.
- Oh no....it's the thing I saw that day, when we got ambushed by something n the woods...
- What are you talking about?
- I wanted to tell you, but I forgot....until now.
- What thing, Cassie?
The red eyes made her go unconscious. The massive creature made it's way through the woods. The sudden loud and painful ringing in the ears brought Weylyn down on the ground. Before loosing consciousness, he saw the outline of something extremely big. But before it could reach for them, a fire stream burned it's limb and made it flee.
