Prologue
"AHH!"
I jolted awake, causing me to hit my head on the ceiling of the tiny car.
"Ow."
Memories of my past were becoming nightmares, making me relive them over and over again every time I closed my eyes. My head throbbed and my body was all cramped up, courtesy of our small car not having enough room for my 6' 5" body, especially in the leg room area. I grabbed my head, trying to erase the pain, not even noticing my companions voice.
"ri...Ari...ARI!"
I jolted once more, the loud unexpected voice scared me. I shifted my gaze to my left, noticing how distraught my mother looked. Her tawny hair was falling out of her messy ponytail, light pink glasses were slightly askew, and her hazel eyes were full of fear and concern. Her petite body seemed to be shaking slightly, she knows what I was dreaming of and it scared her too.
"What? What's wrong mom?"
She moved her gaze away from me and back onto the road, noticing how we were getting a little too close to the edge for comfort.
"Well, you woke up screaming and then neglected to answer me when I called your name, multiple times."
I looked down at my lap, shifting my bony hands together and playing with my various rings before answering her.
"Sorry, mom. I was just a little out of it. I'll pay better attention, promise. I'm sorry."
She let out a soft sigh then responded in her little voice,
"Ari. It's fine, I was just worried."
She let out a little humming noise before continuing.
"Did you have that bad dream again?"
"More of a nightmare."
I could hear her gasp slightly, her body tensing up, but she didn't say anything after. I transferred my line of sight to the window, where my sad excuse of a reflection stared back at me. Purple bags made their home under my dark blue eyes, while half of my shaggy, chocolate colored hair was sticking up in all directions due to my impromptu nap on the car window. Numerable earrings piercings both my helix and lobes, along with one in my right tragus. My eyes unconsciously shifted to my unwanted tattoo wrapped around my neck, a phantom pain strangled me every time I even glanced at it; "Omnia causa fiunt" translate in English as "everything happens for a reason". Those words have haunted me for the past five years, ever since it was permanently inked around my neck. A forever noose, forever reminding me of any sins.
Hope you enjoy it!
