Chapter 10 Damon

I had been walking up and down this block with Ross for what seemed like hours. I’m annoyed and thirsty and just want to go home. Yes, I’m a vampire that can walk in the daytime due to a ring that has been passed down to my family that was enchanted by a witch a very long time ago. I say “Ross, I don’t think she is here, or you would have found her by now.”

Ross frustratingly replies“She has to be here somewhere. The map said so”

Looking at him, I say “What if she was only here when Nic cast the locater spell.”

Ross says annoyed, “no, I can smell her or sense her, she is using some sort of blocker to hide herself."

I take a deep inhale, freeze. The most mouthwatering smell I have ever smelt hits my nose. I’m starved and so thirsty for a taste, I look around trying to find where this smell is coming from. We are outside the front of a dingey diner, just through the window I see a girl with brown hair running through the kitchen door. I quickly dart inside and the smell is more intense inside. She must be in here, the girl that left. I dart through the kitchen with Ross on my tail. Just as I bust through the back door I’m hit with nothing, I can’t smell her anymore. Where did she go?

“What the hell man, what happened?” Ross says, slightly puffed from chancing after me.

“A girl. I saw her running through the kitchen, she smelt amazing”. I said, just the thought of her brings back the smell

“wait.... you too”, Ross said incredulously.

“What do you mean me too,” I said back.

“Well, don’t vampires find their soul mate by an irresistible smell? If she smelt that amazing, maybe she is your mate” Ross

“So you are saying that in 2 days all 4 of us found our soul mate and all 3 of them ran away from us?” I say with humour in my voice, like this couldn’t be possible.

“That does seem pretty unlikely. What if it’s the same girl?” Ross says, like he has just come to some great conclusion.

“Vampire soul bonds are extremely rare. Most vampires don’t even like dating as they don’t like being tied down and the strain on one partner's body just kills them quicker. That’s why we don’t mate like witches or wolves.”

“Yeah, but when you have a soul mate they magically regenerate and the feeding doesn’t take a toll” Ross says, like he is giving me a lesson about my own species.

“Yeah, but soul bond vampires are only bonded to other vampires. It closes the loop, didn’t you say your girl was a human and Nic said his was a wolf?” I said.

“This is very unlikely, if only we can get one of them to stay put so we can talk to her”, Ross says, deep in thought.

“I don’t know, man. Maybe we should separate and keep looking. There is a book I need to get to look into this whole vampire soul bond stuff”, I say, remembering there is an old library around here that I think holds supernatural books. Ross leaves and starts walking up and down the block again, this is going to drive him crazy.
