Chapter 1 Ex-boyfriend?
"Lizzie, you good? Do you need me to come along?" At the door of a private booth in one of the largest clubs in Yougvan City, Chloe Young was worried about Elizabeth York, who seemed a bit tipsy from the drinks.
"Nah, I'm just going to hit the restroom. I'm totally fine. You guys have fun!"
Elizabeth, a sleek black dress clinging to her curves, stumbled a little as she headed down the hallway, one hand on the wall.
She let out a sigh. Damn, those people could really drink.
If the private booth's restroom hadn't been occupied, she wouldn't be out here searching for a public one.
After relieving herself, Elizabeth stepped out of the restroom, looking bewildered. Which room was it again?
She glanced around. All the rooms looked identical. "What the hell," she mumbled, picking a door at random. "This got to be the right one."
Then, Elizabeth pushed it open. The room was dark, illuminated only by dazzling, colorful lights. Already tipsy, Elizabeth could barely make out the figures inside. Everyone was a blur.
To mask her embarrassment, Elizabeth grabbed a bottle of beer from the table and boldly announced to everyone, "Come on, everyone, let's have another round!"
The people in the room looked utterly confused.
Who the hell was that?
Damn!
Paul recognized her and asked, "William, isn't she..."
William Dickens, seated at the center of the table, remained perfectly composed. The air around him had already been cold, and now it seemed to plummet to subzero.
He had recognized her the moment she walked in.
Seeing no one else move, Elizabeth walked around the room with the bottle and challenged, "Why aren't you drinking, guys? Are you all chickening out?"
Suddenly, she saw a man with an air of authority, nudged aside the legs in her path, and quickly walked toward him as if she had found her mark.
Her smoking hot figure slid onto the seat beside William.
The air crackled with tension!
William could even smell the scent on her that was both familiar and strange.
Beneath his cool and indifferent expression, no one knew there was a storm roaring inside him.
As Elizabeth sat close to him, she saw a familiar face through her tipsy eyes. Those captivating eyes were shadowed by thick brows, and the perfectly sculpted lips were beneath a strong nose. It was the face of an aloof and indifferent man.
Elizabeth lifted her finger and held William's sharp jaw. "Hey, mister," she narrowed her eyes. "You look a lot like my ex-boyfriend!"
Paul's lips twitched in disbelief. Damn it, Elizabeth. Was she really this drunk, or was she just faking it?
Elizabeth cupped his face in her hands, studying him closely. The man in her memories had done everything possible to break up with her three years ago.
First, he had his mother throw her some money, then let his entire family turn against her behind her back. Even their servants could boss her around.
And that wasn't all. William even pursued her when he had a fiancée, saying he would definitely marry her.
At this thought, the mounting humiliations finally reached a boiling point, and she lashed out, slapping him across the face.
"You are a jerk, William!"
But that didn't satisfy her. Without hesitation, she poured her beer over William's head, and the amber liquid dripped down his handsome face.
Everyone was stunned. That was William Dickens, for god sake! The richest man in Yougvan City, who had seized control of every major industry in town within three short years after taking over his family's business.
No woman dared to approach him except her fiancée. Those foolish enough to try had met with... tragic ends.
Everyone covered their eyes, not daring to witness what would happen next.
But Elizabeth, completely oblivious to William's murderous glare, was too busy digging through her purse. She pulled out two hundred dollar bills and slapped them across his face.
"Think you're great just because you got some money? You think that means you can disrespect people? Well, since I just slapped you, there's your compensation!"
With that said, she took out a handful of pennies from her pocket and dumped them all over William's head and shoulders.
Phew! She felt amazing!
Elizabeth picked up the glass from the table, took a triumphant sip, and waved to the room. "Alright, ladies and gentlemen, enjoy yourselves. I've had a blast tonight, but I'm out of here. See you!"
After that, she walked out of the room with graceful strides as if she had just done something awesome.
The private room fell extremely silent. One could even have heard a pin drop.
Everyone didn't dare to look at William, wishing they could un-see what they'd just witnessed.
William's hand slowly clenched into a fist. Very good, Elizabeth. It seemed she'd really become something over the past three years!

The next morning, Elizabeth was jolted awake by a frantic phone call, her head throbbing from drinking too much the night before.
"Ugh, Chloe, it's still early. Why are you calling? I still want to sleep a bit more!"
"Oh my God, you pissed off William, the ruler of Yougvan City, and you still have the nerve to sleep?"
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat, and her breathing seemed to stop as well.
"Who did you say?"
"William Dickens, the freaking emperor of the town!" Chloe couldn't explain much more. "Babe, do you got enough money with you? I can send you some right now. Just book a flight and get out of here!"
William... Dickens?
Did she meet him last night?
"You've got to go, now!" Chloe said as she hung up the phone.
Then, 20 thousand dollars was deposited into Elizabeth's account!
Before she could even process what had just happened, the doorbell rang. It must be her brother coming over, she thought.
Dressed in a lace nightgown and wearing slippers, she quickly opened the door.
A tall man stood outside. His familiar face and scent took her breath away. It wasn't her brother, but... William!
Just as Elizabeth realized this and wanted to shut the door, the man walked in, pinning her against the wall. His eyes narrowed as he looked into her eyes with a teasing smirk.
"What is that look? You don't recognize me anymore?"
Elizabeth's heart hammered in her chest at the sound of his deep, magnetic voice.
She knew he was handsome, but he'd somehow grown even more devastating over these three years.
"We just saw each other last night, and now you've forgotten who I am? Do you need me to jog your memory?"
His warm breath tickled the back of Elizabeth's neck, sending a shiver down her spine.
Her body stiffened.
"I didn't realize this is still your sensitive spot," he murmured, a dangerous smirk playing on his lips.
Elizabeth snapped to her senses, struggling against him.
But he was stronger than her. She couldn't fight him off.
"William, what do you want?" Anger flared in Elizabeth's eyes.
