When my eyes opened again, I was still in the same bed in the same room. Gage had his head on his arms at my side. He was asleep. I could see his fingers twitching softly. I sat up slowly. My body ached but it didn't hurt anymore. Vanessa was in a chair leaning back and scrolling on her phone. Me sitting up made her look up. She walked over to the other side of the bed from Gage and reached out to touch my forehead. I didn't feel hot anymore though, and she sighed softly in relief.
"That's a relief." She whispered softly as she dropped her hand. "Are you feeling okay? They had to give you some really strong stuff." I took a moment to assess. I felt weird and aching. Each movement felt like it took more effort than it should. Like I was fighting water and not air.
